  • Spent four days on the Madison River in Montana. Two days exploring/Wade fishing. Two days fishing from a drift boat.
Stayed at the Rainbow Valley Lodge in Ennis Montana. Used River Borne Outfitters for the guided fishing from a drift boat.

I am a bit surprised I didn't see more vehicles, people and other activity around you. That place is a great river but too popular. Loaded with people

I'm going to be just down river from there this June.
    Looks amazing.

If you go back again during highwater, fish tighter to the bank. The fish in the Madison will move in real right (less than a foot at times) off the bank

That's what my guide had me do. I arrived after the runoff but it rained for a couple days straight right before I got there. Water level dropped daily as I was there. It seemed especially high and fast up near the three dollar bridge area compared to nearer to Ennis.

Nice video, although I would suggest upgrading to a rubber mesh net rather than the nylon. Luv the Madison. Tight lines

Thanks. The net actually has a rubber coating on it. I have a better fishpond net I normally use but it's pricey and I didn't want to risk it in my checked bags on the airline. Can't wait to get back there again, such a good time.

I’m doing the same trip in the middle of July! So excited! Is there 24” browns in that river?

    • @rugrboutdoors2491

There are some big ones. The biggest brown I caught was 22". I caught a fair amount in the 18-20" range on the drift boat. I had a really good one on the 2nd day of the drift boat that felt like a monster but came off because he bent the hook of the streamer. Wade fishing I caught some average ones but got one nice one about 19" or so swinging a steamer. Hope you have fun. I'm trying to make it an every year trip for me.

2 foot browns are cool, but the 2 foot rainbows will make want to comeback every chance u get

Man the colors on the Browns up there are unreal!!! Is that a Drifter you’re using?

The ones from the first day and the one large rainbow I got swinging a sink tip line with a double streamer set up. Mariibou Muddler followed by a Slumpbuster ( size 8 or 6 if I remember right). Got one at three dollar bridge on a brown articulated streamer I bought while I was there (don’t know the name). Smaller ones I got nymphing. On the drift boat got some good ones on a sculpin pattern streamer

Oh. As for the rods. Yes I’m using a 5 & 6 WT moonshine drifter

@@rugrboutdoors2491 if you are going to streamer fish that double set up is the way to roll! Did you like being on the drift boat? The Sculpin patterns are legit!!!

@@rugrboutdoors2491 right on! That bend in the rod when the rainbow hit was intense 🎣

@@BeyondTheFly that was my 2nd time on a drift boat. Way different than wade fishing where you pick apart the water slowly. You have to plan your casts and you get one shot at it but you cover so much water
