A brief look at the wonderfully preserved site in Ercolano, Italy. Pompeii maybe more famous but it is not as interesting or as well preserved. If you are on a tight schedule I highly recommend visiting Herculaneum.
Please view clearer audio video of this video
My father had the opportunity to visit Pompeii for the first time at age 5... in the mid-1920s. An unforgettable experience for a French kid, especially at the time - and when he took me there for MY first time, half a century later, we discovered together Herculaneum as well. I personally revisited the site four other times during the following decades. It’s a bit like strolling in the very streets and entering the very houses of that kind of Roman ghost-town some 2000 years ago - except the whole population seems to have just mysteriously vanished into thin air. Hope to get back to ‘Ercolano‘ one last time, as long as I’m still able to travel by myself!
Imagine the loving care that the archeologists put in to recover this site. Thankyou to them and the entire proffession. Beautiful video. I visited pompii but missed this site
We visited Herculaneum in May 2018 and it was beautiful . The only problem we had was our car was broken into at the onsite parking garage and it was an inside job . They didn't count on the fact that my wife speaks fluent Italian . The onsite attendants at first refused to call the Police. When they realized my wife understood perfectly what they were saying to each other one of the attendants decided to help us and he apologized for what we had to go through.
Really amazing architecture, frescoes, brickwork. How beautifully designed those days. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
I've visited both sites several times. . . can never get enough.
Did you have a favourite ?
Tragically preserved I feel sorry for the souls who passed away if they only knew what was coming 😭
We went a couple of years ago and had a wonderful holiday, taking in this site too. One cannot imagine the trauma of those poor people. To be buried for centuries. I found it almost unbelievable that the beach was buried to such a depth.
I too was very impressed with the site. I found Pompeii to be too big and lacked a feeling of intimacy connecting the visitor with the past. I am pleased you enjoyed it. Sorry background music too loud but I re made it recently with voice over
I would love to see Herculaneum in person too! This is an excellent vid showing the real life of these people and sorrowfully showing their real deaths, so sad. Herculaneum was so beautiful at that time and is still very beautiful as the remains show today.
Thank you for your kind comment. Sorry the sound was too loud in background. I really loved this place and although Pompeii is interesting I liked here much more
Been to pompeii and here about 1998..loved it..
I agree that Herculaneum was more interesting than Pompeii because it’s more compact and I felt I was in a town, not just an archeological site. I loved walking through the many streets with buildings on either side. I also suggest visiting Herculaneum and watching a virtual tour of Pompeii.
I felt there was more to see there, and easier to get around. Also it was just down the road to my hostel
the scariest thing is that all the skulls have more teeth than most of us today
YES, Fresh, natural food and physical activity are just as important as brushing teeth.
Cigarettes, processed foods, beverages, sugar, wheat transgenic, sedentary affect auor body.
I would give ANYTHING to see this for myself! This is going to be my life's goal. Herculaneum!
Hi, because it is smaller and compact, it is more rewarding. Pompeii doesn't have many artifacts on show, so I think this is more interesting. I would always say see both, but this is the one I like.
Hi! A hug from Italy!
Really cool place. After watching several videos on CZcams, I too would rather go to Herculaneum versus Pompeii 👍🏼
Good choice!
The bricks weren’t “put in as a diamond” the walls were put together piece by piece brick by brick in a very specific pattern with each piece made to fit tightly in a specific area made for it because they had figured out the transference of energy from earthquakes having dealt with them for so long so they built accordingly so that they walls could effectively withstand and transfer that energy... it’s more evidence of the ingenuity and genius of their construction and didn’t have anything at all to do with looks
I really appreciate your comments as I did not do in depth research about the construction. That is fascinating and thank you for sharing that
I have to agree we visited both my personal favourite was herculaneum simply breathtaking
I agree totally
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Awesome. Thanks.
You're welcome!
Agreed, have been to both Pompei and Herculanium and the latter is smaller but better preserved.
It's not smaller. What happens is that ONLY 25% was excavated because there is an entire ciy in the surroundings: the modern Ercolano 😂 Would you let the archaeologists implode your house to dig?
This has been on CZcams for a year and no comments? Wow
Sadly the background music drowns out the narration and spoils it. Bet it was interesting. My daughter went to Pompeii.
I have made a copy of it removing all audio. I apologise for this as I got the audio levels very wrong. I hope if you watch the new improved one it feels more comfortable
Lovely video l will certainly make a trip. The only thing I have issue with is the music your video didn't need it it was off-putting. Thank you for sharing. 😊😊😊😊🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you. I have changed editing s/w so I have deleted audio and done a new narrative. You were right..background music too loud.New narrative more informative.
Ces ruines sont très impressionnantes
too loud background

Så intressant.
Why on earth must so many "narrators" feel compelled to include musical background, especially when their narration is overwhelmed by it?
I have made a copy of it removing all audio. I apologise for this as I got the audio levels very wrong. I hope if you watch the new improved one it feels more comfortable
When I visied the Herculaneum site in 2018 I found it interesting how there are neighborhoods all around it whereas the Pompeii site sits off by itself.
That's why only 25% of Herculaneum was.excavated.
I’d love to know what you said mate but the 6th symphony orchestra drowned you out! For all that I enjoyed your vid thanks.
Yes I got that message from elsewhere and I have taken comments on board and re -issued the video omitting the audio. Then I did a voice over s much clearer. Sorry if it took some pleasure away from the video. I am constantly learning
I would go to both places if I could
The narration is lost in the louder background music.
Thank you. I have changed editing s/w so I have deleted audio and done a new narrative. You were right..background music too loud.New narrative more informative.
👌👌
They can put some csi technology on the skulls so we can see how they looked like.
Wish the music wasn't so loud!!
Can't understand the talk because of the weird music.....:(
Thank you for your comment. I took notice of this and I did get the sound level wrong. I stripped out the audio and did it again which I hope you like. I made a mistake with the background sound sorry

I like it.
Parece mais construções do futuro que do passado.
The background music is too loud on your video...it's making it almost impossible to understand what you're saying.

@@HarrysHappenings no problem...thanks.
👍👍👍😎
I cannot understand what you are saying - background music is too loud.

Dem bones Dem bones Dem dry bones hear ye the word of The Lord
The Romans believed in the Hellenic gods not the fake Christian one. All the shrines and temples were dedicated to these gods.
@@riccardoricci937 the romans were pagan and converted their religion to what we now know as “catholic” after warring with Christians for over 1000yrs in an attempt to try to merge their pagan beliefs with the Christian faith
Do not make this mistake. Both absolutely worth a visit.
I agree but I felt at the time that there was more to see here rather than at Pompeii
Music is too loud! You don't need music anyway, it subtracts and does not add.
I have made a copy of it removing all audio. I apologise for this as I got the audio levels very wrong. I hope if you watch the new improved one it feels more comfortable
the audio is drowned out by the Steve Roach.
Yes I know that is why I made a copy with the music edited. Sorry about that.
Who the heck edited this ? Cannot understand most of narration.
I have made a copy of it removing all audio. I apologise for this as I got the audio levels very wrong. I hope if you watch the new improved one it feels more comfortable
WHY THIS SUPER LOUD MUSIC?
Yes I made an error, but if you look, I stripped out the audio on a copy I made, so the second one is far batter. Sorry about that. Check out the duplicate video, less the music.
Here's the thing...
what a tragedy , they though they were safe behind the walls .
yes luckily it happened fast so we only can hope they did not suffer in those last moments
Well, it's not better for the people that got blasted by the vocano.
death= big$$$$$
audio is horrible, which 2nd grader was in charge of it ?

The dam music is load Had to turn it off.

you really shouldn't tell people not to go to Pompei, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. just because you find Herulaneum nicer does not mean that everyone will.
Yes I admit it was wrong of me as both have their attractions.
@@HarrysHappenings thankyou for that harry, i appreciate it.
You really do need to learn how to pronounce the name of the place. You'd tried it three times or so, each time differently, before finally getting it right! And then you get it wrong again!
Fascinating, nevertheless.
oops !! Thank you for educating me
@@HarrysHappenings wasn't meant to educate but to inform. People listening will repeat the error, that's all!
Si pubblicizza sempre Pompei e non Ercolano.
È un grave errore.
This is a very terrible introduction, you used the word "interesting" to describe a disaster site, and repeat several times "don't go to Pompeii, you even used "better" on the video title. Where in the world did you learn English ?
You could have had used "more educational" instead of "interesting", and "if you have time limitation, could choose here first" , and "more sharked" to replace "better".

ditch the music, very hard to hear your voice
Thank you. I have changed editing s/w so I have deleted audio and done a new narrative. You were right..background music too loud.New narrative more informative.
"Better" ruins???
Well I meant it was more interesting
*SERBIA*
Get rid of that noise
I did. I made a copy of the video and reduced the sound.
What is that God awful Organ music ? It drowns out the narrator .
I have made a copy of it removing all audio. I apologise for this as I got the audio levels very wrong. I hope if you watch the new improved one it feels more comfortable
Stopped watching what would be good because of naff music

No they are not bettor they are the same they are not better why would you say this to Pompeii it was lovely
Just felt there was more to see in this smaller excavated site, and it was more emotional. Pompeii is good too but in my opinion this is more interesting
