    Once again, hysterical facial reactions….hahaha according to Brian & Roger, Freddie looks like a giant prawn, & he does!!! You just gotta love him!

    Great reaction! The video signifies an elaborate party or celebration, but despite all of the people and different attractions or distractions, you can still be very alone in a crowd. Freddie liked this type of theme. The opening of the song is directly taken from the opera, aria (song) Vesti La Guibba. Which basically means put on your costume and perform, the audience is waiting. It is taken from the opera Pagliacci. It is a story about a clown who finds out that his wife is cheating on him, but he still has to put on his costume and perform, while he is experiencing a mental break down and he is obviously very unhappy, but he has to make other people laugh. There is a bit of this same theme in Bohemian Rhapsody as well, "Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?" Actually this song does share some cords with Bohemian Rhapsody. There is a great live version of this song - It's A Hard Life - Queen live in Rio 1985.

    what to say. I love this video! Roger & John HATED it - Brian was neutral on it - based on the costumes they had to wear. Personally I think John makes an adorable silver unicorn, ANYWAY. Freddie's lamenting a breakup (another one, poor guy). He's got his real life gal-pal Barbara Valentin in the video (she's the one wearing the black ostrich feather dress and leans over the balcony to show off her... um, love?..for Freddie as he sings. She also steps on his foot) . The song is quite beautiful.

      Nobody else could make an unicorn outfit complete with tail and head look glamorous, but somehow Deaky managed to pull it off

    Brian is the one walking up the stairs with the coffin shaped guitar case. Freddie took inspiration from the opera Pagliacci for some of the costumes ideas and the idea of the pain of love, specifically for the opening bars and lines, Freddie took inspiration from the iconic aria "Ridi, Pagliaccio,". Roger, John and Brian all HATED the visuals and costumes. Though personally I adore Brian's costume. I think the skull guitar actually works and Brian still has it in his collection.I've read that Freddie's costume is supposed to be a Mediterranean prawn. Brian and Roger's audio commentary for the video is hilarious! czcams.com/video/HgWp78Spu6s/video.html Queen has a lot of lovely, positive songs-Keep yourself alive (Houston '77), doing alright, some day one day, long away, hang on in there, ride the wild wind, don't try so hard, teo toriatte (a beautiful gesture of love and tribute to their Japanese fans), etc. They also have some awesome, fun, bouncy songs-lazing on a Sunday afternoon, good company and seaside rendezvous.

      @lcbcreative Před 2 lety +3

      Brian and Roger's commentary is everything! Can't watch this video, which happens to one of my absolute favorites, without thinking about how miserable Roger and John were. Their expressions! Love it.

    • @janettesinclair6279
      @janettesinclair6279 Před 2 lety +1

      The audio comments from Roger and Brian are so funny. I didn't realise that John was supposed to be a unicorn (or horse!) till now. It is a very beautiful song, but the video is so strange that it detracts from it, Brian tries to put a positive spin on it, but there is too much going on including Freddie's bizarre costume.

    The lady in black who steps on his foot is Barbara Valentin. They were sharing an apartment and were together for several months in Munich. She was a well known German actress who said Freddie was the love of her life. Brian thought this song was a very good representation of Freddie's real self

    Freddie became the godfather of the producer Reinhold Mack's 3rd son Freddie Mack. Julian, his elder son asked Freddie to come to his birthday party wearing this costume and he did! Freddie loved that family and spent a lot of times in their house in Munich where he felt the loving family atmosphere.

    This is regarded by connoisseurs as the last of the classic style type songs Queen did.
    classic rock, Piano driven, layered vocals, layered guitars and a BohRhap type guitar solo.

    My favorite Queen video! And a very beautiful song. I love the idea of a masked ball. Freddie always likes to inject a little fun, he has such a sense of the ridiculous: his costume, the wig, his toes getting stepped on by Barbara Valentin. Actually, he was recovering from an injury to his knee, which is why he sinks down to sit for the last line of the song.

    Freddie the artist, again! I've read Freddie surprised Brian; presenting that unique guitar to him as a 'prop' in this video. For sure, Freddie had artistic concepts that didn't always please, at first!. I think Roger sings the line "another tricky situation" in their last song, i.e., Only The Good Die Young. Hearing them memorialise this track in their last work stunned me. Now thinking about it brings tears. More evidence of their deep respect for each other. Freddie put a lot of thought into his work/their final product.

    It’s a hard life is the direct opposite of what is depicted in the video. That is what makes it funny. Fred’s godson in Munich said what he wanted for his birthday is to have him dress up in this costume and appear at his birthday party and of course Freddie did.
    However the lyrics really meant a lot to Freddie and he worked on them a long time. It was very personal and Brian helped him along. He was in a relationship with a man named Winnie and it was a difficult one as usual. Fred wanted him to go to London with him but Winnie wanted to stay in Munich and work in the restaurant he had with his Dad.
    He then wrote Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow because he was leaving for London. It’s a great love song. He then decided to stick with Jim who he had started seeing while he was with Winnie.

    In this video 1984, Freddie moves gingerly cuz he just had a cast removed from his leg. It was injured in a bar in Munich while lifting someone off the ground, pushed sideways, & damaging his right knee!! Didn’t stop Freddie from attending the Elton John concert where he sat at the side of the stage when Elton invited Freddie to join him … but he refused. So Elton dedicated I’M STILL STANDING to him. 😂😂😂

      @jonas and jona gaming Hi 😊 - Freddie hurt his knee prior to this video and had been in a leg cast. The cast was now off and he was still being careful with that leg. Watch hiw he carefully sits on the stairs towards the end of the video. He also re-injured that knee while in concert, but I’m not sure if that was before or after the making of this video. Looked on Google: “Freddie had strained some ligaments in his knee during his time in Munich and spent some time in plaster. It was removed a little early so that he could film the video for It's A Hard Life. He moved a bit awkwardly during the show and he felt a sharp pain in his knee”

    Yeah this is a strange video. I think that Freddie's costume suggests that he feels like all eyes are on him because he is at the party alone (maybe?). I do really like the song through and the lyrics are true, it is hard to stay in a relationship at times.
