We've been collecting forgotten about DVDs and shredding all the cases down into recycled plastic stock for our products and projects. This video is our take on a stained glass window, but using plywood and recycled plastic instead. This project was hugely inspired by Jimmy Diresta's stained glass window video.
The sheet was made using our awesome new sheet press from the wonderful folks over at CR Clarke - you can find out more about their recycled plastic machinery at www.crclarke.co.uk/products/r... ♻️
The frame was cut using our Stepcraft D840 CNC powered by Vectric Aspire 11. We cut all the plastic pieces using our Wazer water jet cutter, which Wazer sponsored some of the purchase. Check out www.wazer.com for more details on the water jet cutter.

Oh yay, can't wait for this one!!!
You can also use the big plastic pieces and fill the spaces with glass or other colors pieces (or wood)
I would like to do all that in my country but I dont have money to buy even the cheapest machine to do any of that 😢
Just an idea - these sheets could make great ‘tiles’ to use as shop floors (or a number of other places). The plastic would soften the impact of tools dropped, would look awesome, and would have no problem handling water in the event of a small flood. Seems like a cool project and a great way to save some plastic from landfills!
Thats an awesome ideas - we better collect some more DVDs!
@@BrothersMake maybe ask your subs and fans to send old dvd cases ..
Very smart idea. You even thought of when a floor would be flooded!!! High five!
PP isn't tough as HDPE, probably tiles from PP breaks in case of a mid size impact, like a hammer falling.
So, I think HDPE is better suited for the task (and it's probably why in the industry they often use HDPE mats, for example in front of CNC machinery).
@Brothers Make I think @mrbaseball1996 is really on to something here! A shop floor is a terrific idea, and it would also be great as a kitchen or bathroom floor or bathroom countertop. (Melting might be a problem for a kitchen countertop. 🙁)
Still, I think they're gorgeous & would love to use it somewhere in my house!
What you make out of plastic that would normally go to a landfill is amazing.
The average person doesn't have the machinery you have to make these awesome items.
Please continue to share what can be made by the average person who doesn't have those amazing tools and machinery.
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
So, what I've been doing, since the holographic material of the CDs and or DVDs, makes my crow brain really happy, is I have been taking off the holographic film by using packing tape.
And it has to be the heavy duty stuff, just take a large piece of packing tape burnish it (that means rubbing vigorously on the tape to ensure adhesion of the holographic film and the tape) and then rip it off like a band-aid. It will give you a nice chunk of holographic film. With enough CDs, I can probably decorate these pieces into decoupaging an item like a bookshelf. It might make it easier without the holographic film to recycle.
Didn't realise you could do that, very interesting!
Thanks for sharing!
A fantastic build and I love the name Shreddy Kruger! Maybe make your plastic inserts thinner and add multicolour LED lights behind - will look great in low light. Even add a sound responsive circuit for disco lights!
What a cool idea!
Great use of the case's. With the DVDs if you have the right type you can turn them into a solar panel. You can find the way on youtube. Good luck.
That’s a great idea! Definitely going to look into that
Thanks, Mark!
You guys still amaze us with your awesome ideas. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks so much guys!
Use a down cutting bit to avoid tear out on the top edge.
Had that suggestion from a few people now. Will definitely be getting some. Thanks!
@@BrothersMake ALSO TRY PAINTERS TAPE IT WILL KEEP THE EDGES PERFECT ! - PS SLOW THE CNC DOWN A TINY BIT
Love it! I actually thought it was a quilt when I first saw the thumbnail.
Thanks! Haha yeah it does look like one now you mention it - not quite as comfy I'm afraid!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Beautiful and amazing. Love what you guys do!
Beautiful!
Wow. Wow. Wow. Love this table. Extremely cool.
Restaurant supply stores sell large cone shaped paper filters for straining deep fryers. I would think that would work for the water cutting machine. Strain the water, let the cone dry, reclaim plastic. Or use a coffee filter. I have no idea how much water the cutter uses. Great video!
That’s a really neat idea! Will look into it
@@BrothersMake Also paint filters (the one in use to filter paint for bodyworks) probably can do the job.
GOOD JOB! The colours and patterns of the plastics look great!!! 😉👍
So many people never get answers and are told it’s in their head or your depressed or it’s normal.
So happy for her ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful
I absolutely adore it. The table looks beautifully neat and that design is fabulous. You two are great, guys and such a big inspiration 💥👏
I love these new Art Attack bros. They're ideas are creative, unique and exciting. Earned a sub!
Gorgeous stained plastic tables! I love them!
Looks great boys
So beautiful!
Love love love the table
So cool and beautiful
You guys rock. That is awesome.
Looks super cool! Great talent!
Very nice.
Lots of fun and very creative! Great job!
Lovely
That was amazing and sooo beautiful!! Loved it! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for watching!
Very cool!
Bloody marvelous!……..😮
Thank you!
wow, it's beautiful!!
Awesome project guys! 🙌🙌 Next time you cut into ply wood we recommend you use a compression bit, this has both up and down flutes to help ensure both sides are pukka! 😎
Ah that's really good to know, thanks for the tip!
You need downcut bits for your cnc to avoid tear out. There are also special upcut-downcut (compression) bits if you want to cut through the material and dont want tear out on either side.
😂just finished writing a comment about using a downcut bit for a top pass then regular up-cut for the rest. Then I noticed this. Figures… I gotta get one of thes fancy compression bits!
That looks so good!
Very good project, the result is beautiful, congratulations, thanks for recycling and showing so that people can also recycle, greetings from Uruguay, blessings. 🙏
Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoyed it 😊🇺🇾
I Like the Look of the pressed flakes MUCH better than the Look from the Extruder :)
I wonder if the larger pieces would stand up to being used for cutting boards or boards for working dough?
Absolutely!
Gorgeous table!
Amazing!
Ha Shreddy Kruger love it! Those tools are awesome & the table is outstanding..... beautiful
This is absolutely amazing guys!
Thanks so much, Jolien!
Wow! Great idea! The table is awesome!
Love your work!
Thanks!
I was gobsmacked with your coffee table! Just 💜💜💜 it!
Far too kind, Mary - thank you!
So awesome bros!
For separating the waste, if the weight difference is significant enough you can spin the waster water down. Your abrasives should be at the bottom. You could also put it into a large bottom release funnel (in Chem we used a separatory funnel) and let it settle naturally and drain out the abrasives slowly
We’ve had other suggestions like this so we might just have to try!
Painters tape will do wonders for the tear out for future cnc jobs
Good tip, thanks!
Yeah, I was going to say that at our local maker's space, that's what's recommended. Just positively cover the top of the wood with painters tape.
Nice. Will definitely try this
This is fantastic
Lindo trabalho!!!❤❤❤❤
Looks like Precious plastic project 👍
You have some awesome ideas guys!
Great work!
It is gorgeous 😍Thank you for sharing 😍 lots of love from arctic Norrway 🙌🌻🌹🌺🌼🏵
You guys are geniuses!! I've been saving soda bottle lids to try to make some fountain pens like in an older video and also some dip pens. Now I want to make a coffee table too!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is very inspiring, huh! those plastic sheets they made are stunning.
The table looks awesome...!! If you guys could make a floating shelf with these plastic...It might look cool and simple.. 🤔👍
It looks like something artist Romero Britto did. He is a Brazilian plastic artist.
5:34 You need a “down cut” end mill to help with the tear out on plywood and msg. I always use it for a first pass with a 3-4 mm depth. Then switch to a normal ‘up cut’ end mill for the rest of the depth through, and use the down cut for any finishing passes.
Basically the geometry of the down cut has the opposite angle so it pushes chips down rather then up. This helps with tear out a lot, but you have to be a little careful with deep cuts because the chips don’t clear out as well and you can get more friction heat if you are doing deep cuts.
Great tips! Thank you
I've seen DVD's used to make chimes, (the flat disk for the top, strings hanging down, and aluminum tubing different lengths, and a dVD at the bottom to spin around in the wind to bang against the alluminum tubing, or sun catchers Very Neat Colors, The Red Would be very Cool for Retro Countertops, or they could be used for deck or flooring tiles. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING GOTTA LOVE YA
furniture and flooring, lots of ideas. stain glass window made of plastic. wow
Something cool to see for complex cutting like that table top...I would love to see the black border with pieces and parts to a dragon in the same manner as the mosaic table 😊😁
I think the frame thats left from cutting the shapes would make nice unique photo frames😊😊😊😊
Thank you.
You’re welcome!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you!
You are best. Well done guys
Thanks so much! 🤙🏽
that turned out gorgeous!!!!!!! Please do another stained glass look project
Thanks so much, we definitely will!
Great job 👏 👍
Thanks!
This is awesome
Thanks for watching Brad!
I've always liked the look of using DVD pieces to make a reflective version of a wind chime.
Super cool! I believe you can turn the CD's into a shining finish so that they can function as mirrors.
Neat idea!
I would love to see some stepping stones with this technique. It would be so colorful in a garden
In regard to separating Wazer waste, perhaps something similar to a gravy separator? There are different types, but I think you'd need one with a bottom release. You could build one yourselves with cylinder and funnel if the abrasive doesnt flow well. Drain out abrasive into one container, then the plastic into another, or just pour it out. Run each through a fine mesh sieve or filter.
I was going to suggest coffee filters to separate the plastic from the water
We love what y’all are doing about plastic . Was wondering what you do with waste water.
I wish i had so nice machines like you
Fantastic Job Boys! Love those colours. I'm so jealous of all you machines. 😆
Thanks so much! Haha yes we're super happy with our collection that is slowly growing 🙌🏼
I love the colours, too. When I first saw the video thumbnail, I thought that the plastic was translucent, but apparently not.
I love that the black helps the colours to really pop. It would be interesting to compare a glossy black to a matte black. I think that matte would create a bit of an optical illusion.
Wow, a table.. Such a marvel.
You’re as shocked as we are
@@EzraIbrahim-qz2jv What a lucky day for me.
Stunning table, love it! Glad you like the worktop idea 😉 look forward to seeing it a reality 🙂
Thanks for joining in the premiere! We’re definitely going to be doing some worktops very soon 🤙🏽
@@BrothersMake 🙂👍
I think this will look 😊even better on the wall.
Hello brothers!, nice doing by reciclying material that usually get discarded as waste for not having another use.
RECOMENDATION FOR COLLECTING PLASTIC WASTE FROM THE WATER:
I'm studying civil engineering, and one of the classes I take is about water treatment. Since the plastic sediment is fine due to the pressure of the machine, these are a couple of recommendations that I would like to give you:
* You can make a modular drainage system at the bottom of the storage tank, which leads perhaps to a bucket, with pipes of standard thickness is enough, however try to avoid elbows with turns greater than 90 degrees, since the sediment will remain clogged , and to be able to collect it, a cloth would be enough so that the water can run and the plastic waste can be collected
* To get a rough idea of how often you should empty the machine and filter it so it doesn't get to the point that looks like sand on the beach... divide the number of liters the machine can hold into an approximate amount of sediment each time that ends a series of cuts. That will give you an approximate of how many cuts the machine would do before it becomes plastic waste with water, for safety measure try to drain and filter it to 3/4 of the maximum volumetric capacity.
I hope it works for you. A hug from Guatemala, continue with such great projects. If you need any help do not hesitate to contact me
That would make beautiful kitchen cabinet doors.
Ничего не понимаю, не знаю языка))) но такие позитивные ребята
То же самое 😁
That could be a modern art installation at a museum!
Have you thought about how to avoid water getting in between the plastic and the wood and ruining the finish/fit? I bet @BlacktailStudio would have some ideas on clear top finishes!
For the discs you could cut them apart and use the pieces to create a mural, with pieces of plastic to contrast the metallic look of the cds
I would put this in my bathroom. Colors, design. Yup, my mind's eye can see it.
Nice!
Table is so cool it's would look awesome on my built in back porch
☺️☺️☺️
I had an idea a few years ago on recycling clothing. If you get the same fabric items in one batch and shred them, then make them into thread and then into fabric again, it would save a lot of waste. If you get a lot of the clothes then they can be sorted by color too. IDEA FOR THE DVD's or CD's: What about making a wind chime? Shiny parts scare away the birds from garden, maybe put some heavier stuff on the back so you get the chime part? I love your table! Very Cool! I wonder if you have plastic that is food safe? Maybe you could make some chopping boards for the kitchen? Or kitchen utensils?
I was wondering if all those CD Solar panel hacks had any validity to them. If so I bet you guys could come up with a great one. If not a giant disco ball build would make a great video. If not a practical solution.
You guys are really amazing. It has been so inspiring watching you guys grow and expand your recycling passion into an amazing business.
Oooh that sounds awesome!
I need to read more of these I was just thinking like pop art style wall art with the dvds or using them instead of glass for sparking mosaic art- but a solar panel type thing well now I got new things to look up o:
Very cool
OMG!!! Love this table! The colours and patterns of the plastics look great. Great video to see the manufacture processes, am going to show this to my A-Level students 👍🏻
Awesome! Hope they love it!
Hello! Love the channel! I recently got a 3d printer, and leftover PLA from spool ends, supports, and so on pile up fairly quickly. There are setups to recycle it back into filament, but those are rather expensive due to the precision required and not something the average DIY user could do. Would it be possible to use a simple setup like your panini presses to turn that leftover filament into sheets/shapes that could be machined using simple tools? I could see that being fairly appealing to the entry-midlevel 3d printer user and a great reuse of material that would otherwise go to waste. Thanks!
Looks good 🔥
Cheers Chris!
First the Triton giveaway and now this - enjoy your prize Chris 😅
Place a scimmer in your watertank so you can scim the top layer of your water where the plastic is floting, and after you scimed it of filter it.
This ìs super cool
Thanks for watching!
SUUUUPER !!!👍👍👍👍🤩🥂🍾top working🌈
Great video. That new sheet press is super geil! It'll make projects way easier. That table really pops and is a statement piece. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Thanks bud! For sure, we've got so many more ideas now 🙌🏼 it is definitely eye catching haha. Really glad you enjoyed the video - hope you're keeping well 😊
This table is gorgeous! Any ideas for vhs 📼 tapes and boxes?
Looks super good! I was thinking you could make a puzzle out of plastic someday, but im not sure what the visuals could be
SUPER
Looks cracking lads! Yeah birch ply 💰🤯😂
Painfully expensive!
this table looks like a Romero Brito peace of art
