I love when you guys show before and after footage. I wish you did it more often.
Ditto - it’s amazing what a transformation has taken place!
Same!!❤❤❤❤
There is something quite musical about listening to Laura describe different plants, their growth habit, their various needs…how the sun hits the garden, what works, what doesn’t. Just a lovely part of my day. 🎶🎶🎶 🎵🎵
I appreciate the history of failed blue spruces. Makes me feel better about the failures in my own garden. Perseverance and patience is a gardener’s mantra!
Good morning all, Get out and Enjoy Nature Today!
Love seeing the the before pictures, it is so easy to forget how things were. Really makes you appreciate all the time and work that goes into your garden.
Sometimes when I need a burst or energy to get something done, I just watch a garden answer first and Laura gives me the pep I need to get outside and get something done.
Good Morning friends!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Happy Friday
That spruce tree is PRECIOUS!!! I would love one in my tiny yard, but alas, the spruce will grow, and grow.
PLEASE, PLEASE show how you prune/cut down the large Honeysuckle. Many thanks for your many inspirations.
It STILL feels like winter here…snow yesterday, overnight lows about 15F and just so cold and windy! I feel like we’re about 3-4 weeks behind with our gardens/yards! Starting to feel like spring will NEVER come! I’m living vicariously through your yard😉
All the changes you and Aaron have made to your property have been extreme changes, and are so beautiful and fit in giving each area it’s own special feeling. They are all happy places for you and your family as well as for the trees, bushes and plants! 🌲🌳🌷🌾
Now I want to go rewatch old garden tours. So fun to see the changes 😊
I’m one who has been here since the townhouse and the look back brought so many memories to mind. It’s been so fun watching the changes in the garden and in your family. Thank you for inspiring us to be willing to change. ❤
I was trying to view some of the townhouse videos but couldn’t find them. Any suggestions?
@@pollytiks3885 I think they’ve been taken down so I’m not sure.
The potting shed and surrounding plantings are looking good. Fun to watch your progress over coffee every morning. Thank you
Me too
Yes, that side looks so much more inviting, I have been watching since Benjamin was a babe…Love all the progress and changes…your my favorite show…my Hubs even recognizes your voice, and always says” is that your girl” 😊
I love that we’re getting some longer videos lately! 😊
Hi Laura, Solomon's Seal do well in dry shade, maybe that would be something to try under the willow! I'm so excited for things to warm up and to see your plans for the developing spaces! I've been here with you since the beginning and it was a blast from the past to see the shot of the old gardens on the west side!! Hope you have an awesome day!
My neighbor just shared some with me and I planted them under a tree in a shaded area of my garden. So glad to hear this! I love the tall structure of this plant. It instantly adds some interest to my lower-growing shade plants.
Thank you Kathleen, I have a dry shady area I've been fighting so I'm going to try some Solomans seal as you have suggested !!
I love what you’ve done to the overgrown side of the house. It looks so much better now. It’s nice to be able to see the house without it being so messy. I love seeing what shade plants you add to your space that will bloom. I have so much shade. I have lots of Hosta’s and this year, hope to add some perennials that bloom in the shade too.
I love the flashback footage. I had forgotten what it had looked like. It’s been amazing going on this journey with you guys and watching the space evolve.
Good morning everyone :)
"Putted"
I am hollering 🤣 that was too cute!!!
I adore the shed and the stones at the door just gives it that hidden cottage feel🥰
Couldn’t wait to cuddle up with my cup of coffee to watch todays video. It’s always the brightest spot in my morning. What about doing a couple espalier trees along the back of the flower shed?
Great video, love how you show us some failures, but many winners. You are amazing
working so hard to beautify your whole garden. Thanks for sharing from Australia.
I subscribed when Garden answer channel had 600k. Reaching for 2 million now! Way to go!
Loved hearing the sounds of the mourning doves and other birds! So peaceful....
Love that side of the house garden. The pathway with the unique stone bird bath and both sun and shade plants. Beautiful!
I gotta admit, I have shed-envy. It is perfection.
Hi All, I really like the placement of the Rose Queen Bishop's Hat! It color contrast is a great choice.
Epimediums are my jam! Have about 10 varieties so far in my small shade garden
You should both be proud of yourself, Aaron and Laura. What a journey! I have been with you guys from the beginning, and I feel so proud of you and your journey. I am battling breast cancer, and you make a difference for me. Thank you for a lovely channel, and I am excited to see what you do next💕🌸🌺🇬🇧
Sending you a virtual hug and lots of best wishes. Laura and her family and garden are inspirational 😊❤
Prayers and more prayers. I take black seed oil and it helps support my health conditions.
Hope you will be well and whole again soon. I’m celebrating my 4th year cancer-free - hopefully in as many years you can say the same thing.
Sending deep, warm love to you on your journey.
Fab video guys! I love when it’s bits and pieces, a little bit of this and a little bit of that😀 The new plant you put in Laura was a little beauty. Love the shed progress just when you think it can’t get any better. Do you remember when you had the ducks nesting in the grass there last year have you seen them this year?.As you were showing the footage of how the area looked when you first moved in I thought that would be a good topic for you and Aaron to do, covering some of your old videos of when you first moved in to your house and talk about what so different about those areas now. You’ve come so far since those days and should be extremely proud of yourselves.
lol, Laura😊You made my morning so much happier with “put-ted”🤗
I love the before and afters at the end of this video. If you and the GA team need an oh so satisfying project and bunch of before and afters in your space would be so fun!
Hello Laura.
I enjoyed the show today. Wanted to let you know that I was happy to see you in the Proven Winners catalog I received in the mail today. Nice job.
I love when you show old footage to remind us of the transformation you both have done to your property
Good morning, Laura ☕️ The look back is amazing. Y’all have done SO much! You are my number 1 source of inspiration for gardening. Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
I appreciate all you do, Laura and came to see a few videos to calm my nerves. It was so lovely to hear the birdsong in the background. Glad your dahlias came thru and good luck where you put-Ted the Spruce! Ha😅
Laura, you are a highlight to my days. Our spring weather here on the east coast has been a little cooler and later that usual as well, but not nearly as yours has been. Thank you for all that you do and share with us. I love seeing the before and after. You and Aaron have done a lot in such a short time. Watching you and listening to you is so refreshing as you describe each plant and your visions for each space. Particularly taking into account all of the seasons and how forever changing a garden is. Just wanted you to know that in this world of so many things taking place around us, you put a smile on my face every day. Lord, please help the little Blue Spruce thrive and grow. Amen. 😊😊
The Bishops hat is an Epimedium Grandiflorum and an awesome ground cover! It flowers very early in spring in my area(Spokane WA) often times before putting out leaves. Comes in different shades of pink and a yellow variety. They spread slowly so if you can get a lot of plants to lay out in your initial planting it will be better. They like the dappled or partial shade, I have them under a Chinese Magnolia tree. They get early morning full sun and then dappled shade the rest of the day. Mine bloom very early spring (6a) along with the hellebores, before the tree canopy is out, and then provide an nice leafy green groundcover the rest of the season. Their leaves can have redder colors and green with pretty red margins if they get more sun but I would not recommend full sun as the one time I planted some in full sun the leaves got sunburned midsummer.
Laura! What about a MINI HOSTA garden in front of the garden shed!! Like mouse ears and mini skirt... all the minis!!!
If I had to dig dahlias up and store them, I probably wouldn’t have them at all. They are relatively new to my garden, and I was given one by a friend, which I planted in a sunny spot with no other care. That thing became the star of my garden, with people walking past and asking, “What is that?” It’s called explosion, and the name suits the plant. Pointed orange and gold flowers, five feet tall. I grow it on a trellis for support. Have bought seven more, smaller, and different blooms, and the variety of choice has been an eye opener to me. If the new ones perform anything like Explosion, I will be thrilled. It did take two full years for the Explosion to be really showy, but that’s ok. The end result is spectacular.
You've stood by the lilac so long, but this year your voice sounds like your ready for the lilac to be replaced. All the years you've done your best for it.When I was little I always used lilacs to surprise neighbors with a bouquet on May Day. We'd knock on the door and run and people would find the bouquet on the door. So fun hiding to see people's reaction. Now that's a 60 plus year memory.
Immediately when I saw the Bishop's Hat plant I knew it was an Epimedium (Barrenwort). I have never seen one that color with those unique flowers! I have two different Epimediums, one with yellow blooms and one with dark pink blooms. I just checked today and both are blooming. So pretty! 😊
Loved this video…such fun variety! Toward the end, you can hear the new fountain at the front of the house as Laura is planting. So pretty! 💚
That little spruce is so cute! I hope it thrives.
I love when you ask “do you guys remember…” because you know a good flashback is coming lol you mentioned putting hostas in front of the flower shed, i thought you were steering clear of those since you have to continuously cut their burned leaves til there is hardly any leaves left? I think the astilbe under your lilac would be a good replacement😍
Good morning All
23:07 I know at one point you had some trouble with the music you were using. Just wanted to say I prefer without music. At this point in the video I can hear birds chirping and Laura digging. Nice to hear the nature while I’m watching on lunch. 😊 thanks for as always the awesome content!
Good morning, Everyone!
You are so right, that weeping blue spruce looks perfect there. I hope it makes it.🙏
Morning everyone
My great grandmother would plant fairy rings of crocus and daffodil bulbs in her orchard to add a bit a whimsy for us kids. That would be a really neat spring interest addition to your grassy patches inbetween the trees! I will be putting in several for my future childern in the orchard we are starting on our property this year.
The best thing I love about your videos are by the time I finish watching them, I feel so guilty for not being outside and taking care of my own yard, I jump up and get to work.
Me too! 😂
I thought I was the only one who felt that way… Ha!
Morning Everyone 🍃🌸🍃
Really interested in the Bishops Hat ground cover. Never heard of it, always learn something new!
I love that shed-I would just live n there! Those bleeding hearts are so sweet. The natural feel of the area is so calming❤️
Good Morning! 🌷 I love your Garden shed & the area around it!! Everything is waking up & looking good, can't wait for Summer color!!😍🥰🍑🌲🌿
Laura, did you forget about the lack of gutters on the flower shed and the resulting drip line in your beds?
6:08 it's an epimedium. I suggested that Last year when you asked wich ground Cover to use for the flower beds in the Gazebo Park. They exists in different colours, but I never saw one with so big blooms. I read some have leaves that stay over Winter and some drop them. Popular Varieties in Germany are 'Orange Queen ', the pale yellow sulphureum or the dark yellow 'Frohenleiten'. It's a half shade - shade plant.
Everything looks gorgeous! I love when you show pictures of what you started with. Your vision for each space is so amazing!
I absolutely love that Weeping Blue Spruce!
I'm really loving the weeping blue spruce. And the garden cottage is soooooo beautiful. All the fruit tree's and the grass with all the little white flower's, also the flower's you planted around the east side of the cottage. It looks wild and magical
Happy to see the dahlias made it through the winter! I love straw mulch, too. It's great for weed suppression and moisture retention. Thank you for the update! Perrenials are looking great, too!💐
Climates are so interesting to me. I am in zone 6 as well so I often look to you for what you’re doing at a specific time of year since it would be similar for me as well. But I am across the country in MA and while your daffodils are just starting to bloom ours have been blooming for weeks and are fading out now, and tulips are starting to open up. So fascinating!
I live in the same town as Laura and this year has been an extremely strange year for us. We would normally be doing the same as you are this year. I'm really interested in seeing how our summer is going to be here in Eastern Oregon this year.
@@STWBird Yes I feel like usually you are actually ahead of me! I watch the videos every year and get jealous that it seems to warm up quite a bit before we do over here but this year it’s the opposite!
Prayers for the Spruce, looks great there !
I started watching you when I retired and I’ve learned so much from you. You’re the hardest working couple on CZcams! Love watching you and your family. Big big thank you.
I would love to see you do a field trip series to Floret Farms to see their process with the Dahlias on a large scale. THAT would be fun to see!
Did I ever tell you that flower shed is my favorite views/place in your entire garden! It’s so beautiful!!
You should do a whole video of the befores and nows. I have been watching a long time and know y'all have made a ton of great changes.
Gladiolus and hollyhocks around the garden shed!
Love seeing all the new plants bringing my life spring is one of my favorite new life beauty 💞🌺🌸💮🌼🌷🌷
So peaceful when you were planting, quiet with the mourning doves cooing in the background.
Thanks!
I do remember . Your improvements are excellent. Fun to enjoy watching with you
Thank you Laura for everything I learn from you!!! It's like having a gardening mentor! I love seeing how to plant things and watching how you go around the bulbs while adding more interest! I would have never known I could use smaller trees in my flower beds.... just SO much!! We are moving soon and all of my new flowerbeds that I will create, will be inspired by you, my garden beds and rose garden as well!!! I'm so excited because I feel that I have all the new knowledge to create something that I would have only seen in magazines, because of you and your kind heart of teaching and sharing your knowledge with us!! Bless you!
A picnic in the orchard one warm spring day would be bliss.
Everything is looking so pretty. Love the blue spruce.
Always a pleasure watching you in your gorgeous garden 🥰❤️
Have you heard of Tree guilds? It’s a permaculture thing where you underplant fruit trees with companion plants that feed soil, attract pollinators (bloom same time as trees) repel pests. I underplanted my 4-1 Cherry with sorrel, garlic, echinacea, allysum. They’re really beautiful too. Like mini gardens under your fruit trees.
I’m so glad you experimented with the dahlias . I’ve always wanted to try them but I’m zone 7. I’m definitely inspired to try a small patch. Thank you!
Your home is so beautiful. I enjoy the progress you have made. It is certainly a showplace yet homey. God bless you for sharing your garden life and family with us.
I just love your gardens! The size and scope of all the planning is impressive and I am always interested to see what you will do next! Getting a "video view" is limiting so I always think about the fact that I can't see the opposite side of the plants you show us. I am sure the full view is always so lovely! Even of plants that might seem over-grown. Just perfection! Thank you again for another great "Video and Coffee" morning!
It is common for Heuchera to grow like that when they get older. They just need to be divided then bury deeper and they will flush out. Remove the dead totally dried stems.
I was thinking the same thing. I dug up, divided, trimmed up, and replanted mine in early spring. They went from ratty and spiny looking to fabulous!
I hope that spruce makes it, it looks awesome in that spot! A thought I had: I remember when you were getting those large trees installed, you mentioned that the tree farm does root pruning around their trees to prepare them for an easier transplant. Could you have someone come out and "root prune" the willow roots so they don't steal so much water from the surrounding areas?
Your gardens are going to look so different in a couple of weeks. This is my favorite time of year. I can't get enough of the smell and the colors. 🌷🩷🩵💙💜💚🌷
I loved seeing the before versus the after at the end of the video. I'd love to see more of that referencing because you have done so much even in the short time you've been there.
That's exciting that your dahlia. I live in Portland, Ore and I have two different type of dahlias that I leave in the ground over the winter and they survive just fine. However, they are in a more protected place and I do mulch them for that added warmth. But I survive the snow and ice that we get.
Love the Bishops Hat, very unique!
Going old school with that shovel I see.
Dahlias come back for me in zone 8a. However, because of the spring thunderstorms they frequently rot. I think I will cover mine in the winter with tarps and straw, too! Thanks for the information!
I love the bishop hat plant! Looks great where you planted it!
That spruce looks so good beside the willow tree. Epimediums do wonderfully for me. I haven't seen that variety yet. I have orchard envy now. Happy Friday everyone!
I love how you are like well plant you're done! That's exactly how I do it too. Why mess around lol.
Nice love listening to the owl beautiful garden by the daffodils
Wow it looks so much better since you moved in
Laura we have used tent stakes in the ground, string and screw small screw hooks into the top overhang for years it works AWESOME for us.
I sacrificed a Cafe Au Lait last fall….just thought I wouldn’t grow them for a while. I’m in southern Ohio. I went to remove it and get the whole ready for something else. But, it was absolutely perfect and growing!! So much that I potted it up and moved indoors to weather the cool temps that followed. Supposedly, they are the least of the hardier varieties. lol, it looked better than my stored ones. 😂
Laura you always amaze me with your infectious vibrant garden love! You spread so much joy, knowledge, and rejuvenation in our hearts toward our own landscape, wether it be small or large. Have enjoyed this channel for years, it never gets old.❤
Yay Laura! That is promising about the Dahlias!
