Johnathan Hillstrand and the Time Bandit is one of the main reasons I watch Deadliest Catch. The show wasn't the same without those guys. I was glad that Sig Hansen was able to talk Johnathan and the Time Bandit back last season.
The boat was too big and cost too much to run. It was plagued with problems. Theres a reason you seen them having so much prop and rudder problems through out the whole show. The keels isnt straight anymore so the whole drive line isnt straight. Phill just kept patching never fixing properly. Ive been a captain for 8 years and fishing for 20.
I know how much we push my own boat and my fishing isnt quiet as bad as thier caper is. All those boats would need serious work. Also all that water coming into the engine room has nothing to do with the motor it was because the whole superstructure moved on the hull and cracked all the welds. Thats a bad deal and means you need to seriously address your vessel before the wheelhouse slides off with the next big wave.
A new owner may as well repaint it rename it because no one else could ever successfully attach their name to its Hillstrand legend and as fans of it no one would ever want that legend changed.
Ships have been renamed before, though from what I hear there is a lot of superstitions with sailors and captains. One which revolves around changing a ships name, I think it's considered bad luck or something? Besides sometimes objects become stars in of themselves. The General Lee (orange 69 Dodge Charger) was just as much a star of the Dukes Of Hazzard as any of the human actors was, for example. Time Bandit seems to be a pretty famous ship, I think you risk angering fans if you change it. Gotta remember it's not just a ship anymore, it's a regular part of a TV show as well.
Hello: I came to Alaska in 1972. I have worked in the capacity of a field biologist in the Crab fisheries in 1977. I was doing Blue King crab management surveys in the Eastern Bering sea (1980) I have worked in the Norton Sound crab fishery as a biologist (1984). Yes I have seen an albino tanner crab as well. My thoughts about the Time Bandit: since it was based out of Homer, Alaska, I feel it has great appeal as an exhibit that exemplifies the spirit of Homer. On the boardwalk, there was a Deadliest Catch gift store run by the Hillstrand mum of Andy and Jonathon along with their stepdad. Majority of the items were overpriced but I appreciated the tourism it generated. I feel that the co-captains represented Alaska in true sour dough fashion. I do not resent their success at all. I would gladly trade stories if I ever got the chance to meet them. Their story is highly relatable and full of intrigue because the way things were when they were growing up was a total Gonzo era.
My bad. Now diving for team time bandit in the bearing sea in the month of February. Frankie sorry but his first dive well we were concerned about his sanity. After his second um well we don't quite know what to do about it.
I just thought it was jonathens' health declining. He was really looking rough a few of those seasons. I think it doesnt really matter if its a row boat or a fishing boat, boat stands for Bring out another thousand as they are just money pits. In this case guess its more like bring out another three million lol
I got one thing to say reality TV is not reality TV I work for those guys I work for Andy again in a heartbeat but Jonathan can take a long walk off a short pier
