  • This is a full in-depth tour of how to change oil in a motorcycle, 2009 ZX6-R, with Tips, Tricks and Advice on oil selection. I am no professional but I have gotten this down to less than 15 min for a thorough oil and filter change with cleanup =).
    Here are the main steps:
    First warm up your bike for 5-10min then;
    1- open oil cap, loosen oil pan nut and drain
    2- take filter off
    3- prep new filter for install ( I used the K&N 303)
    4- cap oil pan nut then install new filter
    5- slowly pour new oil into bike ( I used castrol race 4t 10W40)
    6- take for a spin

    Your video saved me time and money, I have a 09 zx6r with Werkes exhaust as well and today I did the oil change by myself and it worked just great! A few notices is that you wanna make sure that you put the pan as forward as possible because when you open the nut the oil will rush out really fast and far. I used Kawasaki full synthetic oil 10W40 and the bike feels smooth. At first I used 4.5 quarts but it seemed like I over filled it so I loosed it and took some oil out. That means the bike needs 4 quarts in addition to the oil filter lubrication. The foil and everything is great tools to use so I really appreciate your detailed video :). How did the Castrol worked for you and what oil do you really like? I used to run Redline and now switched to Kawasaki.

    The foil is an ok idea though you will have a little clean up.just wanted to through my idea in the mix that has always worked well. Take a sheet of cheese cloth that way you don't get any flaky contamination around your filter area ! This soaks up oil very well and controls the unwanted seepage. I heard you had a buddy in the background of the video. Next time have him lean the bike back the other way while you take the filter off this will utilize gravity to keep the oil from spilling out the filter port. Lean the bike back to the peg side put the new filter on and your good to go. Hope this help .thanks for the video bike looks great that's why I checked you out was the color scheme.

    I try to save big cardboard boxes and set them aside for jobs like this. I tear the glued seam and unfold the box and ride the motorcycle over the cardboard and clean up is pretty easy.

    If you had the bike on a rear stand holding the bike level and off the ground a few inches would it still drop off the fairing, or is it not the lean angle of it being on the ground causing thatv

    hey i have question should i let my bike warm up with the old crapy oil thats been sitting during winter or not start it at all and just start it with fresh new oil for riding season ??

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 10 lety +1

      daniel frias definitely start it up, even tho it has been sitting you need to run it so that the oil thins out and pours out. However, when putting in new oil, I would pour a couple 100ml in, just to flush out the crap oil, you'll know when to stop pouring once the oil that comes out is the color of the one you put in. Hope this helps.

    hi marco i want to ask you, btw when you put oil
    to the oil filter, its for the gasket oil filter or just fill the oil filter with oil until full in the oil filter ? sorry for my bad english i hope you understand

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 8 lety

      +Guntur MahadiPutra you should fill the oil filter half way - not all the way, and smear just a little bit around the gasket.

    • @masgun328
      @masgun328 Před 8 lety

      Marco Biscarini and why you put oil again after engine after start up?

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 8 lety

      Guntur MahadiPutra because the engine will suck up oil, and you want to make sure the oil is at the right level - you want to error on the high side, not low, to minimize engine wear.

    Hey bud what kind of filter should i use? My bike its the same ZX-636 but its a 2003. Do u have to order the filter or can u buy it like at a local auto shop?

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 9 lety

      Christian Garcia I always used K&N filters, they are a bit pricey, but unlike the stock filters the K&N can be cleaned multiple times for re-use. Order it and install yourself, its super easy. Just a matter of taking the tank off, and opening the upper part of the airbox and you are done.

    • @wantabesk8er
      @wantabesk8er Před 9 lety

      Marco Biscarini you can use any oil filter more than once, most if not all oil filters are basically the same, so you are generally just paying for the name or look.
      I always change out my filters every other oil change.

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 9 lety

      Robert Stine True, however, I think the K&N (or other aftermarket filters) seem to use more robust materials that last longer and are easier to clean; whereas the stock is more delicate and is less resistant to deterioration from cleaning.

  • @CodyJv
    @CodyJv Před 10 lety

    Was the fairings OEM or eBay overseas kit? My bike has been dropped by PO and in the same market for some... 09 zx6r.

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 10 lety

      I bought them from eBay, I spent $450 roughly. I would not suggest buying any china fairings, however. They are pretty disappointing. OEM fits way better and feels much better. The tabs on china fairings break pretty easily. Every once in a while I see deals on CL for around $600 for a complete OEM kit. Hope this helps.

    • @CodyJv
      @CodyJv Před 10 lety

      Not really sadly. I need an 09 zx6r right and front fairing pieces and then I could paint. The other stuff I welded... but I see it like if I am going to spend $200 on that, a full $500 gets me a different color and no paint on the $200 job. Hard to decide.

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 10 lety

      Cody Jv yea, it is a hard decision. But honestly, I got tired of the china fairings after a while. If you can find some high quality aftermarket fairings locally, or find the parts you are missing on eBay, I would go with that. Good luck man. Btw just sold my zx6r today, so sad to see her go.

    • @CodyJv
      @CodyJv Před 10 lety

      I wanted to try something new. Picking up an 09 daytona 675, then after that either a 2010 cbr1000rr or the new 636 would be nice. I loved the ninja, was such a great bike. I'll end up with a ninja soon again =)

    What size is the oil nut ?

  • @Trotters222
    @Trotters222 Před 9 lety +1

    Is it not better to drain the oil when the engine is cold. This way all the oil is in the sump.

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 9 lety +1

      Trotters222 no, its better to have the oil warm in order to lower the viscosity. If it is cold it does not flow as well, you'll end up with remaining oil throughout the engine.

    • @Trotters222
      @Trotters222 Před 9 lety

      Marco Biscarini nope, incorrect. You'll have oil left in your engine when you warm it up before because you're allowing it to get around the engine components. When cold oil the oil is in the sump.

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 9 lety +2

      Trotters222 do it however you want, I've found it to be much more efficient with warm oil, with the aforementioned reasons - based on the physical properties of most liquids.

    • @MarcoBiscarini1
      @MarcoBiscarini1  Před 9 lety

      jason bolden I would change oil every 3.5-4.5k miles and filter ever 3rd oil change. I wouldn't go much beyond that. Oil is one of the most important maintenance routines for your machine, its not worth saving a couple $ to push it...
