    I have this…well…had this. Left foot: 40° off the ground, right foot: 35°. The doctor said it was the worst he’s seen in a while. Nothing genetic caused it. It was just birth defect type of thing.
    10 years ago I got surgery to correct it. Got it done on both feet at the same time. My right foot has been fantastic and has a full range of motion like a normal foot. My left foot was slightly under corrected and so even though I could put it flat, it wouldn’t go past that,
    This caused scar tissue buildup on the joint and other problems to start happening in the left foot. I actually just had another surgery 4 days ago to correct it.
    Doctor says my range of motion has increased by about 5%-10%. We’ll see for sure when I start PT next week but I can already tell that it’s improved just from the fact that my foot lays flat on the boot without any issues.

      Hello! Please try calf stretch and achilies tendon stretches. He might be toewalking due to tightness in the calf and Achilles’ tendon, (I used to do the same) I tried to do the stretches twice a day, and in 3 weeks the tightness was basically gone.

    I was 16 when I woke up one day with dystonia, which is a neurological condition that causes the muscle in my body to tense up and not be able to relax. Before that I was incredibly athletic, I did boxing, fencing, and rowing as sports
    My Dystonia was the worst in my thighs and the flexing pulled against my achilles forcing me to walk on my toes.
    Within a year and a half my achilles had shrunk to the point I walked like this kid, in fact it got so bad my left foot dislocated itself. The exhaustion and pain I felt everyday was infuriating
    This surgery was a massive boon for myself and would recommend it to anyone who does toe walk

      Muscle strength isn’t what you want. Heel cord lengthening is what you need.
      I had my initial surgery at Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia (CHOP) but I had a recent operation to fix the under corrected foot at University Orthopedics Associates NJ.
      But seriously what you need is going to be a Heel Cord Lengthening

      At his age it is likely your child may have an underlying neurological spastic equinus. In my clinic I would utilize an AFO. (Ankle Foot Orthosis). Please have your child evaluated by a medical professional to assist you in addressing this concern. - Dr. Jarman

    I had this surgery when I was 12 and I was wondering what the condition is called when the achillies tendon isn't able to grow properly?

    • @PediatricFootAnkle
      @PediatricFootAnkle  Před rokem +1

      There is no condition specifically where the tendon doesn't grow/lengthen properly. There is a condition which restricts the achilles from lengthening properly, called a low lying soleus or accessory soleus muscle.
      I see this in 9 out of 10 children that require surgery for toe walking.
      This anatomical variation must be removed at the time the achilles is lengthened or it could lead to a regression or loss of correction as the child continues to grow. I hope this helps. -Dr. Jarman

    Hello
    Please help.
    Im from iraq, my 3 years old son is having right feet tip toe.
    We meet with more than 10 different doctors, here are three advices from them:
    1. Doing physical therapy for three months (we did it 1.5 month and see no effect).
    2. Doing surgery. But some of them said the surgery may not effect and the child gonna walk on his toes again, or he will not be able to walk normally.
    3. Doing the surgery at age 8 years or older.
    We are very confused and don’t know what to do, and the case getting worse day after day.
    Thanks for helping 🙏🏻

    • @PediatricFootAnkle
      @PediatricFootAnkle  Před 18 dny

      In our clinic, for a three year old, we treat conservatively first. Physical therapy can help somewhat. However, we utilize a toe walking brace that our patient wears at night (a full 8 hours in a 24 hour cycle) during the body's time to rest and repair. This lightweight brace passively stretches the achilles tendon. Treatment is usually
      6-12 months.
      Also, your provider should definitely have determined if the restriction to walking with a heel toe gait is structural versus neurologic. Since it is one foot only, other possible causes should be ruled out.
      Age three is young for this surgery in our opinion.
      We have included a link for your review, for the toe walking brace we utilize with our patients. Thank you for watching our video and sharing your experience. Please feel free to contact our clinic directly should you have any other questions.

      I toe walked starting at the age of 3. For a lot of my childhood, I was going to lots of doctors and trying different things.
      Physical Therapy on multiple occasions. Never made even the slightest difference.
      Botox shots in my legs. Didn’t help, just very painful.
      Wearing a cast to not use the muscle. Wasted my time.
      Finally I got surgery. My parents did everything they could to avoid it but it worked.My right foot was fixed completely.
      My left foot was under corrected and so I actually got surgery to fix it a few days ago because it caused lots of complications and pain. Now that I was old enough to take this into my own hands, I told my doctor all the things I’ve been through in the past and at this point, I just wanted to skip right to surgery. He completely understood and said that sounds like a good idea. I don’t regret that one bit.
      My advice, don’t be afraid of surgery for them. You get it over with And it’s all done much faster than avoiding it

    You lot have to know that toe / forefoot walking is a muscularly engaged walking technique. Its the same technique YOU ALL use to walk down stairs, push objects, skip rope / jump and land down, run sideways, how every sprinter runs, and many long distance runners run this way too. It is not a disorder! Otherwise why would doctors not stop those movements being done forefoot? But only going after walkers, yet the higher level more extreme movements are okay? Thats obviously silly and backwards thinking. Heel striking is a muscle disengaged, skeleton and joint abusing technique. Where you basically balance on your skeleton, using your muscles just to maintain upright balance rather than actually bearing the load and holding you up. We know the correct function of the ankle joint is as a point of leverage, this is undisputable facts. Hitting the ankle on the floor in a heel strike is the actual disorder. Just like it would be a disorder to heel strike, walking down stairs, pushing objects, running sideways, sprinting etc

      You walk on your tiptoes alot.

    • @Penguincop24
      @Penguincop24 Před 3 dny

      Toe walking leads to issues as you age. Scar tissue on the joints builds up and it’s incredibly painful. There’s other complications too. Without a normal range of motion in your foot where it can pivot up and down, it causes the bones to hit against the ankle joint in unnatural ways.
      Trust me, I know this cause I was born with this and this is actually what I’ve experienced and what doctors have even told me.
