  • Just a quick review of the Rosin Paste Flux #135 2 oz jar from Amazon. It has a 4.7 star rating on Amazon for good reason. Also posted this with my Amazon review.
Please be kind, I do suck at soldering and was never trained to solder the "proper" way, but after hearing so much about flux, I decided to give it a try and it makes things so much easier to solder, especially small stuff! I don't have steady hands either, which you can see, which is why this stuff really helps.

Very good, excellent demo. I didn't have much success with a solder flux which had a 63/37 alloy and not cheap. That needed more 63/37 solder on top of what was in the paste! I will give this one a go. Cheers.

This stuff crystallizes fast. In fact, when I bought a can, it was already hardened, making it difficult to properly apply. I wasn't aware that the consistency was meant to be more of a paste, so I didn't return it.
If you buy this stuff, be sure to use it fairly quickly, otherwise you'll have a hardened tub that's more difficult to apply to your work surface.

...new to all this, do you need the flux and what is it exactly, as in what is it supposed to do when soldering?
Bought a soldering kit a few weeks back but haven’t used yet.
Buying a heat gun for another project and ran into _Sra Rosin Paste Flux_ and was wondering if I needed it?

nlawson2004 it just makes the solder flow better. Before I never really used flux and was able to solder. But after finding out about flux it became so much easier to solder. Of course there are also liquid type fluxes that may be easier to use than this paste.

Yeah I ended up ordering it after seeing explanations of it somewhere.
Cheers and thanks for the demo.

Is this type of flux used to remove diodes and put back in as well?

What are those crystals on the paste?
I have those crystals on mine too

Rosin crystals. It crystalizes in long shards like that. The waxy paste the rosin in is keeps it from totally forming into a solid crystal.

so whats the difference between the this version the #135 and the no clean past flux #135NC??

    • @rich1051414
      @rich1051414 Před měsícem

Whatever the paste medium is. With no clean, it evaporates off and allows the rosin to totally harden, which causes it to no longer be reactive. It'll probably be a bit runnier initially, but I haven't used it, so I am only guessing.

I've read (somewhere) that dipping a hot solder tip into flux is not good for the tip.

9 USD per 2 ounces. It's not cheap not expensive, but it's a well known reputable paste. It won't cause corrosion if you don't clean it, but it is ugly to leave on the board. Alcohol dissolves it.
