    Lots of effort for no return but a great place to fish. Many years ago I used to be a beater at Floors, thoroughly enjoyed the place, particularly the drives along the river. Thanks

    Hi Iain, Looked a cracking day there on the tweed weather conditions perfect but no fish. Hope you got your airflo line sorted and I look forward to your next adventure. 🍷 Steve.

      @IainSB  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes Steve I have a replacement , Thank you . I don't think there was a fish of the lower part of the Tweed that week . I am not sure if it was the river levels, temperature or to many seals in the river Cheers Iain. 🥃

    A bit of everything here . Earth river and sky Nice shots Ian. With those temperatures no wonder there's no fish hanging about. Not even a sea trout. Here in Germany we have too much water at the moment but the Brown Trout seem to thrive. Tight lines

      There weren't any fish in the pools because the seals had emptied them Christopher .... There are normally resident fish in the pools and that draws fresh fish to lie with them but the seals had cleared the pools and any running fish that got past the seals kept going Next trip there is going to be more promising Cheers Iain. 🥃

      I hope that no expects me to sing Richard, I think not only would it scare the few fish away it would have an adverse effect on the rest of the wildlife. Cheers Iain 🥃

    I think I would have had an intermediate on in those sort of conditions but the ghillie knows his water better! Sounded pretty cold too....no hits but a good day out Iain..😎👍👍

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  Před 2 měsíci

      The pools aren't that deep on Upper Floors Mr Mazo and the fish even at 2ft above summer level can see the fly near the surface and normally come for it. There hadn't been a fish caught on the lower Tweed all week as there were seals in the river and had cleaned out most of the fish all the way up to Makerstoun
      so it ended up a couple of days of casting practise .......
      I have been back recently and will have to edit a few other trips before I get around to editing fishing a better water level at Upper Floors 😉🎣. Cheers Iain. 🥃

      You may gather from the other comments Paddy that the seals had decided that there wasn't enough food at sea and decided to hunt in the river and clear the lower Tweed of fish ... I have been back and fished with Colin and Ritchie Cheers Iain 🥃

    At least and at last you got out Iain after the big and persistent water and unfishable from the previous weeks.Lost the 3 days at Lees and Whitadder unfishable
    Yes they were caught upstream

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  Před 2 měsíci

      You will know that it wasn't just the high water levels that caused problems Simon The seals had emptied the pols of residents and any fish that made it past them shot strait upstream. the water levels are now at a good hight and it will be worthwhile having a cast anywhere in the Tweed system.
      Cheers Iain 🥃

    Hi Iain how to we get old of some Iain Bain specials please

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I know that there are some for sale on eBay but I also have seen how much they are charging . If you have a friend that can tie flies or know of someone that will put a bit of effort into making you some flies you will probably find that they will be a lot cheaper. I have copied the link to me tying my favourite fly and hopefully you will have a chance to make your own. Cheers Iain. 🥃

    Enjoyed your video as always Iain. Could I ask a question? I'm a novice salmon angler and I've got 2 days early June on the Dee altries and lower drum. It didn't cost too much. My question is- there's a ghillie, I don't have a lot off spare cash and I gather he'll offer advice on arrival anyway regardless as to where and how etc. What is normally included from a ghillie and what would you pay for and how much and what's the , for want of a better expression, etiquette?
    I just thought if I tent camp and drive up and cook my food on a stove etc I can afford to do it then and maybe again in September or October or on the tweed or tay or something. I'm still perfecting my cast although it'll come, I've fly fished since I was 8 and I'm 53 now.

      @IainSB  Před měsícem

      Ghillies no the score Fraser and I am sure that however is there to help will know that you are a novice and and will understand that at the end of your days fishing just to shake their hand and pass a fiver if you can afford it and explain that you don't have much money and hope that they can get a beer. Most guys will accept it with gratitude. I have had some friends one in particular that only ever had enough for his fishing and he never tipped a ghillie in his life but always explained that it took him all time to save for his trips and there was never any bad feelings on any trip that I fished with him. He always joked that the only tip he could ever give a ghillie was never to tie his shoes in a revolving door. when he went fishing he always got the same treatment from the experts as those that could afford to tip Be up front and explain your position and I bet you will enjoy your day because there will be no pressure or worry come the time to part. you are not alone when it comes to working on a tight budget and as I mentioned Ghillies no the score
      All the best for your trip. Tight Lines Cheers Iain. 🥃

      @@IainSB thanks, I'll manage a fiver or ten pounds that's fine by me. I'll tell him I'm a chef and he will understand. Can't wait to get on the water. Meantime the Ayr down here should be running off well tomorrow so I'll practice there. You're a good man and I hope I'm following your path from good trout fly fisherman to good salmon fly fisherman. Just to be out there in our lovely countryside is great. To just see some salmon will do me. I'll enjoy it regardless, I've an enthusiasm for anything that makes me feel alive from roller-coaster to out in the wilds fishing. Hope to meet you one day- its on my list! Tight lines

      @@IainSB yes, that's it, the surroundings and indeed the people, just make me relax easy. I've a retired policeman friend in stonehaven ex chairman of their club if I remember correctly, great man, fished with him for years on the cowie. I'll make sure I fish there too when I'm up. Anglers are great to talk to and become friends with. It transcends the years too, I was 23 when I met the guy and that was 30yrs ago and we've remained friends yet only met three or four times. Fantastic. You sound like him and indeed seem to think like him. Keep it up please more more more thanks.
