BJ is very close on this; the breakdown was sampled by Jam and Lewis for Rhythm Nation by Janet Jackson, the title track of her 1988 smash album Rhythm Nation 1814. This funk is on another level, giving rise to Parliament, Funkadelic and Bootsy, and many others.

Joel Selvin wrote, "there are two types of black music: black music before Sly Stone, and black music after Sly Stone".
Upon its February 1968 release, "Dance to the Music" became a widespread ground-breaking hit, and was the band's first charting single, reaching No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2010, they were ranked 43rd in Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and three of their albums are included on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Fortunately saw Sly and the Family Stone live in the early 70’s. Caught Larry Grahams band Graham Central Station on their 1st tour. Long live Funk!

I was very blessed to have parents that loved MUSIC. That taught us to enjoy it and appreciate all the different kinds of music.

There’s a lot of songs to react to, one of my favorites “it’s a family affair“ listen to the lyrics and of course the music was exceptional.

Music was always on in my house, my friends house reunions, everywhere, you couldn't get away from it.
Maybe that why some young people like Asia didn't hear a lot of it.
