  • What is Metaphysics?
What is a person? If parts of you were to begin to vanish, at what point would you no longer be considered a person? If we know a person is fundamentally made up of individual atoms, is the concept of a person really an illusion? Is there a fundamental structure to reality? What exactly is time, and how does it fit in? These questions are just a few that one might find in metaphysics. Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that studies what reality is, answering questions like ‘what is there?’ and ‘what is it like?’.
However, what metaphysics is precisely is controversial and difficult to define. The reason being that this branch of philosophy and what it attempts to solve has changed throughout the centuries.
This video will serve as a brief introduction to metaphysics. We’ll differentiate between ‘old’ metaphysics and ‘new’ metaphysics, examine whether metaphysics is even possible, how science today relates to metaphysics, and exciting problems metaphysics hopes to solve.

I wonder if sometimes there are just smart people who sometimes just don't have the ability to experience spiritual things, like dream, meditate or have intuition. and that's why some people don't see the value of Metaphysics. What do you think?

      You are 100% correct.
Philosophy according to the man who coined the term “Pythagorus” means the love of wisdom…this wisdom referred to here is NOT epistemic knowledge…it is gnosis or knowledge of spiritual mysteries. This knowledge is accessed through a practice called Theurgy or Apophatic Contemplation according to Plotinus. Plato calls it anamnesis which does NOT mean to remember(recollection) it means to reveal gradually the nature of the true Self or Soul where the true Mind can be engaged. It is turning inwards an requires a lot of discipline…these modern existentialists lacked that and started spewing rubbish…
Even when Nikola Tesla told us about the ether they rejected it and gave us more physical particles and called it quantum …to avoid the possibility of a non-physical substrate to reality. When will the materialistic madness stop…

I'm recovering head trauma. my eyes are different now . I saw something 2 x that is completely understandable. tho I try . here goes . I saw a cloud 20' from my window shaped like a 3D flower of life ( as big as my Ford truck. it had spikes like ferro fluid . it was round . it vented out thru the spikes . the second one I saw a white bird tumble out of it and fly away . the cloud was absorbed by a pine tree both times , a different pine tree each time!? wth is even going on here ?

I think it's the smart people that have the ability to experience spiritual things like dreams , meditate, out of body experiences intuition..I'm obsessed with metaphysics. When there's a sea of people that can read something to memorize it and just regurgitate that information... I think it takes a deeper mind to understand what's beyond the known reality...

Well done!! Good overview and clear and concise.
The one thing I would have added is that it was actually the brilliant mathematician Kurt Godel who put the final nail in the coffin for logical positivism in the 1930s with his discovery of the incompleteness theorems. Not mentioning Kurt Godels incompleteness theorems in this context is like forgetting to mention Einstein when discussing E = mc2.
Einstein used to get up early to walk with Godel so he could pick Godels brains. Furthermore, a lot of atheist Edge lords still don’t know that logical positivism is self refuting hence the scientism and materialism of the gaps fallacies committed by the modern cult of “reason” such as the “new atheist” movement!! All the best.

Well, decent summary i think, but philosophers before Descartes absolutely did not take the world "as it is" or appears. Pre Socratics such as Parminades for example, believed that all of the changes we think we perceive or experience is all an illusion. Xeno, one of his students, particularly focused on the paradoxes of motion (Xenos Paradox) to demonstrate that reason proves that our senses are illusory and change (such as motion) isn't real. Thus it was said, human reason can be trusted, but not our senses. This is exactly the opposite of Heraclitus who sought to demonstrate that all notions of permanence is an illusion and change is the only real feature of reality.
You'll find modern day "scientists" utterly ignorant about the subject making annunciations on both sides of the issue, sometimes even contradicting themselves. Unverifiable beliefs like "all of reality is nothing more than eternal quantum fluctuations" or "the universe is static, eternal, multi dimensional and unchanging, even though individual observers may have perceptions of change".
Aristotle became famous for addressing those vastly disparite metaphysics, as well of course creating the subject of propositional logic.
It absolutely was not meant to read it comes "after" physics, because metaphysics is *more* fundamental to reality than physics, and to even attempt to do physics, you first must have a correct metaphysical framework or you'll become irrational really fast.

"New Metaphysics" seems to me as a terribly impoverished version of "old metaphysics", analytic philosopher have, generally speaking, taken Quine´s desert and mistook it for an oasis. Time, however, has revealed that this was but a mirage leading to a philosophical dead-end. Hopefully philosophy can recover from this error.

Explained? A description is not an explanation, and a series of questions is certainly not an explanation. Its extremely simple. For example Sound is physical, Silence is metaphysical; light/dark, actual/potential, motion/stillness, charge/discharge, body/spirit, change/permanent, principal/attribute, ying/yang, hot/cold, expansion/contraction, acceleration/deceleration, inductance/capacitance, discharge/charge, quantity/quality etc etc etc. The universe works as the consubstantiality of both, ie; the trinity. Male/female;child. Physical and metaphysical; Now Sound/silence:music. All sound no music, all silence no music. All light no color, all dark no color etc etc etc.
Welcome to the matrix neo :D There is no spoon. There is no you. You cant count spirit as you cant count darkness or silence or love or soul. Identities dont exist. Opinions, feelings and beliefs are utterly irrelevant against truth.

A question arises to me: why cannot we just say that metaphysics is useless since science is doing what metaphysics was 'supposed' to be doing and overwhelmingly better? Where is the use of metaphysics?
Plus, if it isn't using the new information that science is providing, what good metaphysics is for? Furthermore metaphysics studies 'what' things are; impossible for humans to know what reality is. We can only know how it behaves and it characteristics which are investigated by science. In other words, humans cannot know 'what' things are; they can only know 'what' things are by their behaviour and characteristics, only know the behaviour and characteristics. Everything metaphysics is doing, science is doing much better! No need for this kind of philosophy to stick around.

    • @evan7391
      @evan7391 Před 3 měsíci

You are going to presuppose a kind of metaphysics before doing science anyways.
In fact, the idea that "we cannot know what things are" is a kind of metaphysical position, which I actually hold to an extent.
Metaphysics is also fairly simple, whereas science is always changing. They really aren't opposed to each-other, and reinforce each-other quite well.
