unbelievable run by Might and Power, everyone praised Doriemus but to lead from start to finish in a 3200m race going at a decent clip the whole way shows the remarkable staying power of the horse. The footage of the horses behind Might and power getting ridden hard just to keep up with him while Jim was casually strolling along with ease symbolises the superstar that he was

Exactly the bloody temerity of Larry to bring Linesman up to M&P with about 400 to go and immediately go for the whip just to stay within a half length - funny stuff. But all those challenges would have taken their toll on the leader and set it up for a horse like Doriemus storm home - except for one thing - the ticker of M&P.

@@paulglitch2119 Absolutely! Excluding Linesman, Might And Power has gone from half a length in front to 4 lengths in front from the 800m to the 400m. To keep on powering to the line to win was truly legendary. Lord Fury also reportedly led all the way, but I can't find a video.

@@paulglitch2119 when you're on a horse that you know is feeling the pinch like Linesman was you have to try and make a move because you know he's not coming from behind 300m further on.
Also, Crying Game and Linesman were noted frontrunners and they both attacked M&P but he was too quick and strong.

Might and Power is the son of Zabeel and Grandson of Sir Tristram.Still the only horse in 155 years to win the Melbourne Cup , leading from start to finish. Have met him at Legends of the Turf in Melbourne with his other retired legendary friends .He has a certain awe about him.He knows himself he was a great champion. Such an awesome feeling to be in his presence. Doreimus was looking so well in 2013 , that you would think he could still race. Was so shocked to hear that he had passed several years later.Great to see Better Loosen Up also.

Carbine had many descendants - including Phar Lap - but many of them didn't win the cup. I don't believe bloodlines plays much of a role in whether a horse ends up being great, in fact quite often they can just be freaks for no seemingly no reason.

MAP was just to strong and again from start to finish brilliant horse. Best Aus/Kiwi bred stayer ever obviously the Diva then came along but the forgotten Champion was Ethereal what she did was brilliant, as a mare personally thought they retired her way to soon but the double then just to show wasnt just a handicapper comes back to win the BMW.
