  • There are fears some pensioners will struggle to heat their homes this winter, after Rachel Reeves slashed the number who'll receive the winter fuel payment. Around 10 million pensioners will lose their winter fuel payments under new plans announced by the Chancellor. From autumn, those not on pension credit or other means-tested benefits will no longer get the annual payments.

@@Whiskahadditionally pensioners have been given so many handouts in the Tory government while the young have been shafted time and time again and pensioners also lived through one of the easiest financial periods this country has ever seen - at some point, if you've not managed to save and invest wisely when you've had an entire lifetime to build wealth in an easy time and additionally have a state pension which will likely be gone before the point in which most young people these day retire.... Who is really to blame for that?
At some point other groups need to be considered outside of pensioners so sorry to those who feel it's harsh but there are more groups in society than one and after a triple lock and suggested quadruple lock on top of an easy financial period while they worked... You've had enough handouts in your lifetime as opposed to young people now who get nothing and struggle to actually own anything asset wise depending on location.
I feel sympathy for pensioners who struggle, but equally appreciate they have had more than enough time to secure themselves and have an additional state pension and other benefits which likely won't be available for young people by the time they retire.

Nobody wants the very well off to receive a £200 winter fuel allowance. But someone in receipt of a state pension and a private pension totalling £2000 a month isn't wealthy. They have rent or mortage to pay, bills to pay, food to pay for etc. As a pensioner in winter they're at home most days requiring the heating to be on. They are not wealthy. Yet this Labour government have decided they are. They could easily have instead chosen to have stopped the WFP to all those with a pension income/income of more than £4000 a month. But instead they've simply removed it from all 12 million pensioners except those on the very basic of incomes of about £800 a month. Shameful that Labour are not taxing the multi-millionaires and billionaires and companies making vast multi-million pound profits but instead choose to take a measly £200 a year off pensioners.

@@PC1974 Russia doesn't want war with the UK. It's the UK, US, Europe and Ukraine that are waging war to dismantle Russia into 43 separate states.
In any case Russia only needs 1 x Poseidon and 1 x RS28 Sarmat to remove any military threat from the UK.
The British nuclear deterrent could then be taken over by the US for the Pacific region.

Am I wrong but pensioners on pension credit, does it not take earning up to what pensioners earn on just state pension. If so this does not make sense. This government seem to only want to help those on benefits
