DNA performance on the AMAs in 2017 was the first time I ever saw/hear about BTS. Out of curiosity I start looking for other songs, and Born Singer, Sea, and Cypher pt 4 completely hook me up at the time. My only regret is that I didn't find BTS earlier and were there for them in the beginning years. The Rise of Bangtan explains very well their journey and the korean context at the time. Borahae!

Boy in Luv and War of Hormone were widely criticised for "misogynist attitudes", after which I believe both Namjoon and Suga sought advice from feminist academics; Jin sincerely apologises to the actress after the locker scene in the (behind the scenes) Bangtan Bomb for the MV shooting. Boy With Love is essentially the same "narrator" but matured. DNA and Fake Love contain some of my favourite Chapter 1 looks.

My first Korean friend I met in 1976 in my AP Physics class. She gradually opened up about her impossible situation at home and for college. I didn’t realize that my listening to her was also an outlet for the 4 young Korean men in class. I was just so impressed they had their Korean-English dictionary plus the textbook, plus her parents gave her only 2 choices of majors. Everything was so hard but she had to raise the younger children while the parents ran the store. I miss Soo Hee so much. I hope she survived the pressure. The family had aldreay brought the family to the US and the kids were enrolled in a good university, but it’s never enough.
I didn’t realize the guys appreciated me, too until graduation night. I got an unbelievable hug. I’m not a hug person. I hope that I provided a solution- for example you can declare and fulfill a parent major while also fulfilling your dream study. Sorry for the tangent.

When you like the older stuff I definitely recommend "War of Hormones", "Danger", "Attack on Bangtan". Songs with a deeper meaning in a funny costume "Baepsae" (also named Silverspoon), "Go Go", "Spine-breaker". Songs by Rap-Line: The Cypher series, especially 3 & 4, "Ugh", Songs by Vocal-Line: "The Truth Untold", "House of Cards", "Dimple" I recommend the live versions though. The live version of Dimple together with Pied Piper is legendary :) Then we've got my all time favorites "Fire", "Dope", "Not Today". Hidden gems (songs that are not so popular): "Tomorrow", "Am I Wrong", "Jump". Then of course the songs where the MVs start the BU (Bangtan Universe): "I need you," "Butterfly", "Run". Solo songs that are all part of the BU: "Begin", "Lies", "Stigma", "First Love", "Reflection", "Mama", "Awake. The BU is another story. You can jump right into it when you are bored. :) Stadium songs that burn the stage: "So What", "Wings", "Run BTS". Last but not least songs for army: "Magic Shop", "Mikrokosmos", "Bulletproof - The Eternal". And then everything else. I really love your reactions. "No" is powerful, and it was a shock to Kpop because nobody had really addressed societal problems from the kids' POV before (as I understand it... I wasn't ARMY yet when it came out). "Boy In Luv" was the target of a lot of backlash, with people saying it was misogynistic, with which I don't agree. It's telling relationships from the viewpoint of a hormonal boy, and it seems pretty realistic, considering they were hormonal boys when they made the song. ;) "DNA" is outstanding in every way! It was a big stepping stone to the juggernauts they are now. :)

Their first songs are so good and unique while Dna it's the song who let them becoming the most popular group in the world. It's a masterpiece. TxT covered both Boys in luv and Dna. You should check on these cover. None can sing, rap and dance their songs like Bts themselves, but TxT are the the ones who can cover them the best.

I just regret not stanning BTS from the very beginning.I just discover them in 2021 through Jennie from BP and since that time, I just fell in love with them instantly. Idk if you already know this but the reference for SKY in the N.O. lyrics is the big 3 university in SoKor: Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University. Admission to these top 3 universities mean a lot to the elder population of SoKor, especially the parents of these young kids who literally spend almost all their youth studying.
I totally agree with your comments in Boy In Luv. Many people criticized it for being misogynistic and I totally can see that, but once you take the song into the context and relate it to the arch of the trilogy of BTS' albums, it makes sense. And for a hiphop song, it is more censored and subtle (most of the hiphop song from western are straight up misogynistic or even sexual).

bts have an event called muster & because it’s special they usually perform a mix of their old & new songs so in the last couple years they’ve performed early debut songs which is really fun to see after all this time, plus sometimes the vocal line performs rap line songs like ddaeng which is a good chance to see jungkook rap!

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. The names of the albums are cute and catchy for the youth. Their target audience were adolescents. They were not aware that their songs would speak to all ages. I feel like BTS started a conversation with ppl and they have been talking to us for 3 albums straight about the same topic. It's mind boggling but so cool. So glad u liked this. I love this song. Just like a few people already mentioned but bts and their albums basically grew along with the members. As you know, the members were extremely young when they first debuted and most of them were still in school and kids. Their first three albums heavily focused on the school education system, childish innocent teenage love, and struggles that the youth have to go through because the boys have experienced that sort of thing themselves. They wanted to relate and protect the youth. Once you go through more of the albums you'll notice the older they get, the more mature the themes will get and so will the messages.

Actually the first verse is the first verse of Suga's part in the first song "No More Dream" RM says 'What's your dream' then Suga says 'I want a big car, big house big rings' which he goes on to repeat in several songs. As the second song "N.O" was not only a comment on the Korean Educational System like others have commented but on something that RM has also spoken about that was he stopped dreaming when he was in middle school and lived a life for his parents dreams. This song speaks to that loss of dreams during youth. Their parents dream of going to university in Seoul (SKY = Seoul's very famous Universities best in the nation). Just an aside as the stairs are reused in an award ceremony performance so are the hands you see, they were used on a performance of "Fake Love" during an award ceremony. They are masters of using things over and over to remind you that this all flows together be it music, lyrics or even props. I think that is why so many are surprised that BTS spent so much time on sets as opposed to CGI. Sets they can use again and for a group that worked with little to no funds that was important early on.
And yes ON is related to NO as it is a call to bring it on that they BTS will continue to buck the system and work hard for their dreams. It is a masterpiece of a song and one of the beginnings of the BTS Universe. Just so you know you have now officially gone down the BU path. Welcome and enjoy. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

So glad you got to listen to the MV. It's a great song. It was played on the radio a lot, =0p. Love the eyeliner. There were a hip hop group in the early years. Bad boys for sure. =0p The more older songs u check out the more of this style you'll see. To stand out from all the other million bands debuting in 2013 they worked hard on the choreo and their singing/ rapping. They worked harder than other groups and became known for their amazing stage presence and choreo. This song was on their mini EP Skool Love Affair. All of them(EPs and albums) are great. Boy With Luv - they realize that the truest love is their relationship with ARMY. (Halsey represents ARMY here. She wasn't expected to dance, but she decided she wanted to try).
Both choreographies end with them doing "I love you" in sign language.
Halsey got a sparkly mic from the guys as a gift because she loved theirs. In return she gave them pink tennis bracelets because they friends for life. She talks to RM all the time by text. They performed together in USA on an award show in May 2019. She is the only artist from the US who asked to learn their choreo. Their choreography is no joke. In the US its easy stuff. There are behind scene vids and interviews. Halsey will not let no one diss BTS. Hope u check out the behind the scenes videos. They all are so cute together. lol.

About the song it's very close to my heart and this is literally ARMY's happy song. Halsey represents ARMY here in the song. This song is basically a letter to ARMY. As the Korean title of this song suggests, “a poem for small things.” When asked to talk about the song, RM said, “It’s about finding little joy in love, being curious about the little things, the details like what you’re eating, what you’re doing. But, most importantly, Boy With Luv is like a fan letter from BTS to ARMY. That’s the most important thing.”
It is quite interesting to think about the shift from Boy In Luv (2014) to Boy With Luv - from a young, passionate, immature love that is represented with masculine, macho-like lyrics and visuals, to a mature, ‘true’ love that is about every small thing in life and in love that is represented with feminine, reflective lyrics that are more accepting and embracing.

This song got them noticed in USA! They got invited to interviews here and they performed this one here as well. Hope u watch all the live stages. DNA is a bop for sure. U should check out the dance practice u can get to see the whole choreo there. They are fab!!! By the way their DNA chain dance move was used by another dance crew in World of Dance. When I saw this MV i was blown away. 0.0 i was like wait wait i know that move, lol. Another reactor thought this song was not deep. But their love for Army is dang deep to us army. Like they saying they are our soulmates and they are each other soulmates!!! Gosh i can't i am mush! They so sweet! We just got a demo version of this song on their new anthology Proof album it's sung by one of the members and i hear it's very different than this one. I am excited to hear it. They slay in any genre. To me it's we are all connected by DNA. That army and BTS are connected. It's a beautiful thing this bond. DNA camera work reused in Suga's Shadow and in JHopes More MVs. Jhope is the one who learns the choreo in minutes while the others take hours.

You know how there is some controversy around their 3 English songs and how western-targeted they are? Believe it or not, DNA was the first that stood out as targeted to appeal to the western market. They debuted it live at the 2017 AMAs and it had a mixed reception with ARMYs. It's so weird to look back at that time!
