    I have had a 2013 A8 L 4.0T for about 3 years. This video is 100% on point. I now have 112,000 miles on the car and have had the following issues:
    1. PCV Valve Failure - You WILL have this problem if you haven’t already. It’s a known fault and Audi actually acknowledged the problem and paid for the replacement. In the 4.0T engine this means serious labor as the PCV is absolutely buried and difficult to get to.
    2. Water leak from the windshield. I had this problem. First noticed this while going through a car wash. You are going to want to replace your entire windshield, but you can do this by simply adding sealant. I promise you. Don’t replace the entire windshield. But if you own this car, this WILL happen. Remember, it is NOT your sunroof. It is the windshield.
    3. Vibrations at 1,000 and 3,000 rpm. I noticed about 2 days after I purchased my car. It felt like the car was shaking when I was at low speeds and just before stopping. I called the dealer and informed them that this has been a known issue with this model. They agreed to fix it. I believe they had to do some welding on the exhaust system to fix it. If you have the 4.0T engine, this WILL happen to you if it hasn’t already!
    4. The Air struts will leak and fail on you. The right front went at 95,000 miles. I now have 112,000 on the car and have the original rear struts, but these things are not cheap. If you go with the OEM part, you’re looking at $1,500 for each strut. Along with labor, you’re looking at around $4,000 to replace a pair.
    5. My screen still goes up and down, however I can hear it struggling from time to time. I expect it go out any month now. So I would agree this is an issue. It may just need more grease, but it’s certainly a problem as you cross 100k miles.
    Overall, I love this car. The power is phenomenal and even though it’s 7 years old, you still feel special driving it. It has all the comfort you want and you’re quicker than a 5.0 Mustang. Just be prepared for these fixes and put $300 per month away for these repairs. Don’t let them sneak up on you and you’ll be fine.
    Lastly, oil changes, oil changes, oil changes. If you have a high mileage car like me, you have got to stay on top of your oil changes. This will prevent the PCV valve issue that will cost you over $1,000 in labor fix.
    I have heard the next items to go are the turbos failing ($7,000 fix) and the transmission going out. I am praying I get another 50,000 miles out of the car without this happening but we’ll see. Fingers crossed.

    Thanks for your unique videos. I got my A8 3T and am happy with it. Some of the problems are spot on - I once noticed a drop of water and wondered where it came from . The front windshield leak explains it. The ride is definitely harsher on 20 inch rims, I would suggest 19 for greater comfort (vs sport handling) . Overall no problems with the car going on 55k miles except regular consumables - oil brakepads and tires. I would recommend adaptive cruise control and heated steering if you are looking for one.

Since a used 2017 or 2018 A8 4.0T is towards the end of production for the D4, do these cars still have the problems you discussed, or have they have been corrected? I just test drove a 2014 a8 3.0T. Is it normal when you are driving slow like driving in a parking lot, When you take your foot off the gad pedal in first or second gear low rpm’s to feel a slight jerk in the transmission. Almost feels like it is stuck in that gear rather than up shifting to a higher gear. Almost feels like your in a standard and you forgot to shift.

    The battery is under the spare tire in the trunk & it costs $573.98 installed at an Audi dealership. Installing S7 cams will set you back $ 3860.00. APR will remap the chip for extra power & quicker acceleration comes with the tune. Cost $ 1380.00. Replacing the down pipes is a $1300.00 fix to the vibration issue that is easy to do.

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Před 5 lety +4

      this problem can occur for various reasons like:
      -because of some issue in the engine
      -low oil level in the gearbox
      -old/dirty oil in the gearbox - the dirt can clogg the mechatronics unit
      -because of old gearbox software - so occasionally a software update can help
      -sometimes faulty gearbox mechatronics unit
      --worn torque converter
      -or rarely even the low battery voltage can cause these issues
      all in all, first I would scan the car for fault codes with a good OBD scanner, if there are no fault codes then I would change the oil in the gearbox if it has never been changed + properly clean the mechatronics unit

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Před 6 lety +18

      it is a massive and quite complicated engine, but the good thing is that it doesn't have turbochargers and it doesn't have serious problems either
      however the maintenance of this engine can be very expensive, for example if you have oil or coolant leaks, then in most of the cases you have to remove the whole engine to just replace some gaskets or eventually some sensors
      the overall reliability also depends on the actual mileage of the car and the previous maintenance
      if you do the preventive maintenance in time-like changing the spark plugs, filters, all the fluids, then you can avoid a lot of possible problems

Only thing which would deter me from this car is the repair costs most likely would be high but if you'd get it as a weekend car or do little mileage in it then most likely things won't wear out sooner.

      @@louisz1553 You can see a glimpse of it without removing plastic. But better to remove and inspect. The rust is only on those subframes, body stays good. There is 3 main ones, 2 in front and one in the rear. All should be crusty. The first to rust out is the one under the plastic cover under the engine.
      Also inspect the inside surface of the brake rotor in the front. Exterior looks good but inside gets grooved to hell. Typical caliper related issue in canada on the D4

      Hi, I drove an 4.2 tdi but it makes no change compared to an 740 D or 740 XD even it has 6 cilinders, so don't test an 7 F01/02 ..Ofcourse the 4.2 tdi goes very wel, it has lots of torque, consumption depends on your driving style :-) Quality is very good. Ergonimics not so good as 7 series, I drive is much better.

    • @JohnDoe-pz5fl
      @JohnDoe-pz5fl Před 6 lety +2

      Ato Nympha maintenance, in the video it says you need to have a oil change every 15 thousand kilometers but it’s not true only every 30-40, the gearbox is 100% maintenance free but at higher mileage you will notice they get a bit slower (we noticed this in our d3 generation after 460 thousand kilometers) our car is the 3.0 tdi which we usually get 1 liter for 12 kilometers and lasts +- 800 km on a 90 liter tank
      Premium options for safety really look for the automatic braking they are easily spotted by looking under the headlight if it’s a black ball shape it’s the sensor, it looks like a European foglight but that’s a real must have, also if you are a sound freak the b&o sound system is a must have the sound quality is dramatically improved, and then also look for small options like night vision (seen by looking in the Audi logo for a camera) and the matrix lights they help a lot! For the quality question it’s great we had a d3 before which lasted over 270 thousand miles with only the basic maintenance the speed is also good we regularly hit 250 kilometers per hour on the German autobahn with not problem (max speed limited) and it has 250 horsepower which is enough for us but ofcourse it’s nice to have the v8 tdi
      If you have any further questions you can always ask! :)
