Rather than a cultural barrier (the real reason FF games hadn't taken off in the states) they felt that the difficulty of JRPG's was the reason they weren't selling here so they decided to make a dumbed-down version for us dumb westerners. This would've be fine if FF had been something complicated like Europa Universalis, but it wasn't. FF games were never that hard to begin with.

I don't care what anybody says, this game was fun as a kid and had some of the most memorable music from the series. I was so happy when I played the 3DS Final Fantasy Rhythm/Music game and unlocked the main character and these songs in the game
I always thought that this boss track sounded like thrash metal. Almost like something that you would expect to hear on an early Metallica album or something.
The composer also worked on the anime The Mysterious Cities of Gold for Saban & Levy (the anime is very popular in France) and also for Rudra no Hihou, Square's last RPG for the SNES.

PikaPikaPowah A lot of people are under the misconception that Final Fantasy 5 didnt come out in the US because of this game. This, however, is not the case. It's like the people who hate final fantasy 8 because 7 was their first game and they were expecting a direct sequel.
Because it's very dull and oversimplified. It wasn't a bad idea, but they didn't do it right. Look at the Mario RPGs for how to do simpler JRPG's right.

And yes, the game is definitely meant for starters, that doesn't make it a bad game, it just means it's rather easy compared to other Final Fantasy games. Whether that's something that makes it more or less appealing is something everybody has to decide for him/herself.
So many tried remixing this and after so many years the original is still superb! Our generation was truly blessed with good games and audio compared to the garbage nowdays

I finally sat down and really played through it for the first time last year in the middle of quarantine/lockdown, and even though I've had a lot of RPG experience (no pun intended) under my belt, I still had fun with MQ despite it's "baby's first RPG" reputation since I knew what I was getting into and didn't expect much of a challenge.

My mom claims that when I was a kid, like 9, she checked on me and found me sitting up. She asked what I was doing and I said I was "playing Mystic Quest." I was sleep talking. This music warped my goddamn mind. The whole soundtrack. It was so criminal in those days that I could only hear this in-game during a boss fight. I played the game just to get to the next boss and listen to this. Then I discovered MIDIs. Then I discovered SPCs. Now I can look for arrangements. It never gets old, this composition.

I feel extremely lucky to have grown up with this game when I used to rent it. It made me understand the power of music. That box art could have mentioned it had the best video game soundtrack and still not feel like they were showing off.

I remember there was a dungeon in this game that said to defeat ALL the monsters, when you didn't actually have to but I did anyways and I got uber overpowered and walked the rest of the game.
This came out when I was 11 years old. I had played FF1 and (what I thought was) FF2 already, I had beaten Dragon Warrior. Even knowing that this game was beginner level, I loved the visuals, I loved the music, I still like playing this game when I feel like playing an easy RPG
They're never gonna put him in because this was not a canon FF. Square made this game only to get us into rpgs because they thought we were stupid lol.
That doesn't make it any less canon. It has Final Fantasy in the title. They can't escape it. _If it flies the Final Fantasy banner, it has the potential to be in the game,_ is my logic. And in Record Keeper's case, they already had a Secret of Mana event, which has NO connections to Final Fantasy, so really, anything Square's made is fair game there.
No matter in the way this fits in the whole FF series, NES, Snes, Playstations, gameboys, whatever. The music/game itself felt like a masterpiece. And still stands!!!

Every single shortcoming of this game is completely eclipsed by its music.
This game was released in1992, Earthbound was released in 1994.
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest did retro metal before Earthbound
Again, the OST for this game had no damn business being this fire!
This makes me want to replay this game again, it's still laying next to my SNES under my television since I've moved.

They're never gonna put him in because this was not a canon FF. Square made this game only to get us into rpgs because they thought we were stupid lol.
That doesn't make it any less canon. It has Final Fantasy in the title. They can't escape it. _If it flies the Final Fantasy banner, it has the potential to be in the game,_ is my logic. And in Record Keeper's case, they already had a Secret of Mana event, which has NO connections to Final Fantasy, so really, anything Square's made is fair game there.

I still play this game today and still love it
No matter in the way this fits in the whole FF series, NES, Snes, Playstations, gameboys, whatever. The music/game itself felt like a masterpiece. And still stands!!!

This song is probably the most iconic battle theme for any final fantasy game I've ever played. They went so hard with this music even though the game was "dumbed down for westerners"
