  • We can't believe it, but our van build is FINALLY DONE! Looking back at our Ford Transit van build over the last 6 months was quite the experience for us - we've developed so many new skills and envisioned a van which turned out as close to perfect as two amateur builders could ever ask for! Without a doubt the most versatile and impressive feature of our build is the murphy bed. The bed being able to go up gives us essentially a full sized van living room while folding down into what feels like a king bed as far as tiny homes go!
    We will be doing a full van tour at some point as well, but we want to live in the van for at least a week before we do that! We are also planning a how much did we spend on our build video, which should be out in the next week or two. For line-by-line breakdown of our expenses, check us out on Patreon!

    We are a couple of full-time travel dreamers who decided to pack up our lives to explore the world - and then 2020 happened. After flying back home, we were not ready to give up our new lifestyle yet, so we bought a minivan, converted it into a DIY minivan camper, and drove across Canada in search of beautiful campsites and stunning mountains to climb. We are currently on a different sort of adventure, converting a Ford Transit cargo van into our new full-time home on wheels in hopes of exploring North America and conquering more mountains - and hopefully even the Arctic Ocean!

    Amazing plan and work. Does the right side Passanger seat rotate, 1 thing is missing is a wash room. You should get a small trailer, built a wash room, shower and a small laundry with solar powered and small storage and hook that to the van.

      @RichandKirsten  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the kind words! Our van is smaller than most, so a bathroom wasn’t really an option for us. We have a porta potti and a solar shower, which is more than we had last summer!

    • @RichandKirsten
      @RichandKirsten  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you! We thought long and hard about our bed - we didn’t want to piece together a bed everyday but we also wanted space to hangout that wasn’t bed - so the Murphy bed was the perfect solution!

      @RichandKirsten  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks Felix! We got our van weighed in the most recent vid and we’re 600 kg under the maximum weight of the van, so mileage should be as advertised by Ford (indeed it is after some testing)

    great job! I'm 6'2 so transit is my best option for height. Once you put in the flooring and ceiling what is the floor to ceiling measurement?

    • @RichandKirsten
      @RichandKirsten  Před 3 lety +1

      We have the mid-roof transit, so the measurement is around 5’9”, the high roof would add at least 6”

    How did you manage the weight in two side of the vehicle....?

    • @RichandKirsten
      @RichandKirsten  Před 3 lety +2

      Very careful planning haha. Our house electrical, Murphy bed, fridge, and food sits on one side, while our water, clothing and storage sits on another. This was the best way to balance out everything in the van. It also helps that we have a small fridge and one 1 200aH LiFePo4 battery rather than a large AGM battery bank
