People don't think about creating mood in their homes enough. I hate going through a home that's just white, beige, no texture. Where do you watch TV? That room should feel cocooning. Do you host parties in your dining room? It should feel decadent. Do you spend a lot of time in the kitchen? It should feel warm and inviting. If you're afraid of color, go for texture. There are zillions of great fabrics out there. Don't settle for the same boring fabrics everyone else has. Your home should be tailored to how you use it. It's beige and looks like a cheap show home, it probably doesn't say anything about who you are, or how you live.
I never clicked that fast on a TED talk
That Hamilton clickbait.
I'm at 5:16. I was hopeful.
RX500 Android well I mean this was the guy who worked on Hamilton sooooo....
RX500 Android Same..
Literally SAME
This was a very clever and inspiring speech to see!
really ? you understood it ? please help the rest of us out
I heartily disagree with his ending statement-revelation: that everything needs to be designed. Because there is beauty, symmetry, synchronicity, connection in finding our place as humans on our planet, and in our universe. Not everything needs to be designed for our egocentrism; we are part of a whole, of art and expression, and also of animal origins and humble growth.
"Because there is beauty, symmetry, synchronicity, connection in finding our place as humans on our planet, and in our universe" - this doesn't really mean anything though, or at least nothing that negates his actual point, which he also immediately qualified.
What he's saying is that it's not nature's priority or interest to be helpful to us, so if we want to live in a world that is helpful, accessible and doesn't constantly get in our way, that needs to be designed. The drainage example was pretty fantastic.
@@DodaGarcia I think you're making a good point, though I haven't watched this talk in a while. I bet if we had a real back and forth conversation together, there'd be some good insights out of it. I'll have to rewatch this talk.
thanks for the input 🌱
I think he was coming from a production designer perspective. We are taught to create a world that is believable and to do that we have to design everything, even the placement of a spoon on a table. The set has to work with the characters, the era and everything that comes with building a world
Absolutely agree, nature is the master designer of everything, we just copy or adapt for our petty lives, but he's from N.Y. , what else could we expect? 😁🤷♂️,👍👋.
He could easily star in one of the shows, he's so charismatic and funny! Great content too.
Amazing. This talk made my whole life. Thank you ❤️
*There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.*
@Nicholas Wilson Ernest Hemingway.

Props to the dude doing sign language all the way to the right.
I see that there is an interpreter present. Is there any way you guys could film and upload ASL versions of talks?
I noticed he wasn't in a well-lit space. That sucks.
Happy Halloween, TedxTalks
Brilliant!
Anything can change at any given moment in time.
This really helped
This still doesn't help me resolve the problem of finding the perfect couch. I've looked everywhere!
I’m here for my school homework

Helpful video🙋🙋
That talk was pretty astonishing.
Happy 🎃 Halloween!
Thank you

George Siantis I know he lives in the building at 111 W 67th st in NYC
I Love it
"~They couldn't do their job~"
I opened my mouth to laugh, and behold
A big dollop of drool fell onto my lap
It didn’t offer much. The three takeaways he stated could be summed up as: be yourself and design your personal spaces, with little regard to standardized elements, to reflect who you are.
But he did it in a very unique way, from a unique perspective. I know you hear all those tropes all the damn time. The "be yourself" bs you always hear. This man brings it to a whole different view, and it's one that brings every day things into it. Color, design, buildings, stairs, etc. However, I am a huge theatre geek and after taking a class on building sets for stage productions, I really can see these perspectives.
Thanks
hOW TO STATE THE OBVIOUS
I saw the Hamilton set in the thumbnail. I clicked.
알렉산더해밀턴 보자마자 들어왔는데 한국어가 없네 ㅠㅜ 디자인에도 관심이 많은데 영어를 못하네 ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
HuH?
I'm short. I wish toilet bowls were lower so I could put my feet firmly on the ground while I'm having my morning movement. Now I live in Asia... it's heaven!
Hi
Honestly american and british stage design has always felt dull to me, not as out of the box as the rest of the contemporary european theatre scene
I REALLY CAN'T STAND HOW TED TALKS ARE
Can someone summarise the talk?
I watched it , but I'm not sure I understand .
?????????????
hi i like you video

Not clear what the talk was really about. The takeaway seems to be to put a plexiglass in your living room so you can receive your guests like Kanye West. I think.
I am second
Sorry third
Congratulations 💐
First (yes I know I’m cringe lmao)
Not in the UK.( Health and safety.} Stairs are a standard size. There are seldom exceptions. This is a classic American Bullshitter. Probably massively overpaid with a huge budget.
1 like = I clicked here because of the Hamilton thumbnail
I feel bad for color blind people..
What do we do with Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Manhattan, Chaplin movies....colorblind people!?!?!?!? 😱🤦♂️. This is bullshit in its purest state.
Hands up if you are here thanks to Coffeezilla
