      I got my xps 13 today and the calibration is awful it seems like. No where near the quality of the 15 I have calibrated and even after calibration it looks really muted. Is this normal for the 13? Am I expecting too much? It sure doesn't seem to get very bright either. HELP!

    I recently chose to buy this over the 13inch Macbook Pro, partly due to your videos, and am very happy with my purchase. Opted for the FHD screen for the extra battery life and I have it attached to a monitor usually anyway, and so far have no real complaints. Subscribed.

    • @nic_ccc3366
      @nic_ccc3366 Před 7 lety

      Patrick Maxwell It's been great. Coil whine really hasn't been an issue (only heard it a few times here and there), and battery is excellent. I only usually need to charge every 2 days (about 8-9hrs use). I really like the matte screen too, prefer it to reflective screens. Only minor problems have been 1 or 2 random errors where Windows hasn't loaded properly, easily fixed with a restart.

      -PDF reading in edge
      -occasional browsing
      -energy saver on
      -minimum screen brightness

      Thanks :-) I am very exited. I have been wanting this Laptop for a couple of years now. I wish I purchased when it first came out as they were much cheaper back when the Aussie dollar was so strong vs the USD. I My Vaio Pro 11 has served me very well but I need a bigger screen for my work building websites. The XPS 13 fits the bill, compact and with that stunning screen. I can expect it in 3-5 days so will let you know how I get on. Keep Up the good work with the channel. You should perhaps have a look at some of the great/cheap Laptops coming out of China and run some reviews. Check www.gearbest.com.

    Hi, good review. I followed the link to Dell Aus and the keyboard is an "US internal/international keyboard", evident with the bigger SHIFT key on the bottom left in your video. It seems that you don't have the option to configure it differently in Aus. Personally, I prefer the type in your vid,, makes typing easier when hitting the SHIFT key with my left fingers :)

    👍 nice review, keep it up.
    I chose the 8gb model (same as yours) as aussie pricing is steep for the 16gb ram model. In your experience is 16gig a noticeable performance upgrade or just best bet for future proofing?

    • @TallyHoTech
      @TallyHoTech  Před 8 lety +1

      Yes its expensive here. 16GB for future proofing and if you are going to video edit or play games extra ram is handy. It crashed once on GTA 5 saying not enough memory or something. Its a memory leak in the game I suspect but 8 is fine for normal use.

    I really like your reviews! One question: You tested the "old" late 2015 XPS 15 9550 and there are so many known issues and problems with this device. I had the previous version and had only problems so I had to send it back. And then on the 9550 there were again so many problems (coil whine again, driver issues, ..). Now I'm waiting for the new 2017 XPS 15 and I hope that dell is doing a good job this time after the last 2 one XPS models were such a productional fail. I believe that the Kaby lake xps 13 inch and the 15 inch will be about the same. Are there any bugs on the 13 inch one you tested now? Because if here are the same problems with coil whining and the other stuff, we can assume that the big brother will also have such issues.
    Thank you!

      I have has two XPS units and none have coil whine. Believe it or not sometimes coil whine can only be heard by young people as the frequency is to high for older people. I m by far not an Apple Fanboy, but your CPU comparison surprises me, as you do not seem to do these videos rarely.
    Benchmarks arent everything. May be the Dell's CPU can clock equivalentely for a short time for comparable performance, it sure can't over a longer period of time, as the heat sink won't be able to dissipate the heat fast enough. Throtteling is likely.
    Not that a lot of customers need a persistent turbo boost. Just wondering as you should know that, and as you mentioned the apple macbook 2015 being a big chunk of metal, it sure can dissipate the heat better to accomodate a 28W CPU.

    • @TallyHoTech
      @TallyHoTech  Před 7 lety

      +Hubieee I put on cpu stress test over night around 14 hours and the CPU was still 100% usage and running at 3.2Ghz. And I don't even care about benchmarks. I was just saying you could compare the Kaby Lake XPS 13 with a 15W CPU to a 2015 MBP with a 28W cpu in terms of speed.

    but I'm leaning towards XPS 13 as it seems better received on the market. Having said that, on the higher ends - I get the same specs for the lower price with the Zenbook plus they don't force me to get the QHD battery-killing option whereas with the XPS I'd have to if I want higher specs.
    Note : portability and performance are my priorities. I'm about 45/55 right now, leaning slightly towards XPS13.

Within in the week it stopped charging and then when they changed the charger (which it came with for a "better suited charger") it still did not work. These days I have a 6th gen NUC and a 12" Macbook. The ideal solution would absolutely be a solid (build quality wise) 13" with 32GB, though.

      Kaby Lake isn't out yet for non ULV processors (which the XPS15 is)

      Any estimate on when that will be?

      Most are saying Q1 2017. This is why Apple messed up by releasing their MacBook pro 2 months before their CPU is out of production. Dell will probably release the XPS 15 once they are out.

      Like butter at 1080p. I dont see the need to go higher res although it would handle it.

    I really like this laptop but I hate Windows which is not good for software developing , and I love linux but in linux I can't install office, illustrator or a fully functional skype. I'm thinking to get a new Macbook pro 2016 core i7
