  • This railtour started in London Paddington hauled by GWR 6024 King Edward I and ran to Plymouth. At Newton Abbot Mogul 7325 was added to assist the King over the Devon banks to Plymouth. The return trip was diesel hauled.
These videos were taken Cogload Junction, Whiteball and Aller Junction.
The last clip, at Aller Junction, suffers from out of focus due to poor light.
Note - This video was recorded with an analogue camcorder, hence the quality is not up to modern standards.

I was on this trip and took a video of all the important parts, but unfortunately, the sound played up.
One point about the double heading from Newton Abbot to Plymouth was the fact that the Mogul was coupled to the front of the train, but in time honoured GW prcatice, any non bogie loco eas always coupled behind the larger, bogie loco and when we arrived at PIymouth, I chatted to the driver, who I knew and he told me that at one point, coming down from Hemerdon, the Mogul wanted to go one way and the King the other!
Needless to say, on the return journey, a week or so later, the King was definitely on the front!
It was a fantastic trip, though!

Thank you for your reminiscences. It sounds like it was a great tour. Unfortunately we won't see moguls on tours again.
