I was canning some green beans today, and like you, I have my own method based on the past 64 years. I decided to read the Ball Lid box and guess what?

Hope vacation Bible school has went well for y'all. We didn't have but 30 kids and it's generally 60-75 but it's our first time since COVID. At least we reached that many. Hope these rains if late help fill out the ears on the later maturing corn. You are so right on my run east of you some corn is a total loss. Mine should be coming in later next week. Hey Joey, congrats on the corn! Mine will be coming in any day now. If we have three people working on ours (my wife and I and the mailman, neighbor or stranger....lol ) after it's pulled, usually 1 shucks, 1 silks with brush and cuts off ends (usually top) and 1 cuts it off of cobs! I learned from watching my Momma, Grandma and Aunt to cut from the top end up to bottom of cob! This sounds crazy but once you learn this you can cut twice as much in less time! If I had a YT channel I would demonstrate this technique! Differences with areas I guess....just the way I learned.

Been anxious for another video Joey, so thanks. My granddaughter’s little garden seems kaput, and my acre never really got off the ground either. Sad waste of seed perhaps? I am envious of the acreage available to you. Roger is a good neighbor. That clever cutter is new to me, but that applies to many things. With Walmart canned corn/green beans under $14 a case (24 cans) I guess I need to stockpile a few cases of each, seems I can’t grow any this year (heck, can’t can it anyway). Got to hope for next year.

My sweetcorn corn is hurting this year, from non stop rain causing late planting to no rain at all has taken its toll. Any stalks that are above 3 ft are starting to tassel, unless something changes in short order it will be a wasted year of time and money on the sweetcorn side.
I like your method of processing, straight forward and simple, can't ask for better.

we found with sowells evergreen you had to pull early morning and process for canning as soon as possible. it is low in sugar and it started to turn starch fast. same as for corn on cob eating pull as much as you will need for a meal. once it reaches harvest stage it matures fast. ours if all about same size you had about week. the rest we left for seed and to grind for meal.

@@Jtwes Sounds like you might be well on the way to that 50 qts. Joey - or more. Here it's only me and the wife so we only planted a spot of 4 rows roughly 25 to 30' long. Still, I imagine we got around 75 to 80 ears from it. But that's a real rough estimate since we didn't count them. Anyway, you do have a nice crop going there.
