- Originally inhabitants of much of the state of Chihuahua, the Rarámuri retreated to the high sierras and canyons such as the Copper Canyon in the Sierra Madre Occidental on the arrival of Spanish explorers in the sixteenth century. The area of the Sierra Madre Occidental which they now inhabit is often called the Sierra Tarahumara because of their presence.
Current estimates put the population of the Rarámuri in 2011 at between 50,000 and 60,000 people. Most still practice a traditional lifestyle, inhabiting natural shelters such as caves or cliff overhangs, as well as small cabins of wood or stone. Staple crops are corn and beans; however, many of the Rarámuri still practice transhumance, raising cattle, sheep, and goats. Almost all Rarámuri migrate in some form or another in the course of the year.

Way back........I experienced the Ramamuri people. My father was an administrator of the asadero's' every summer when the scool let out in the city, we had the privilege to be able to enjoy the Sierra Tarahumara and the inhabitants of the Tahohorachic region. Never in my life have been able to forget the days and nights of the pure and unforgetable Sierra of Chihuahua.

amazing documentary of the household lives of these people. They look very strong and united as a family..This type of simplicity is found all over the world....They are very rich in resources and know how to work the land ....I admire these people ..they arent bothering anyone or asking for handouts. They look after eachother and probably dont wind up in old folks homes...The Tarahumara or Raramuri are very tough...Ive never met them but this presentation brings out a bittersweet reality that goes back for thousands of years. The soundtrack is just awesome. Very haunting. I can understand that many would find this hard to accept ...the outward appearance of poverty...... but you have to look into this lifestyle more deeply because this is really the correct way to live........for these folks. Im sure they wouldnt have it any other way........
My ancestors are from here I'm so proud to see this beautiful land,I can only imagine me living here I will not survive, thank God for what I have,God bless you all.

Hola yo vengo de familia tarahumara,naci y cresi en los cañones alla en la sierra tarahumara en el estado de chihuahua, gracias a unas buenas personas fui a la escuela me gradue de la primaria, secundaria y hise una carrera en computacion ahora estoy en San Francisco california trabajando para una compañia pero nunca me olvide de quien soy ni de donde vengo,soy un tarahumara y estoy orgullozo de ello y de toda mi familia tarahumara y para quien pregunto que si no nos bañamos, claro que si nos bañamos lo que pasa es que nosotros no tenemos un baño en casa nosotros nos bañamos en el rio o en alguna cascada y claro que lo hasemos diario a veses hasta 2 o 3 veses al dia y nunca con agua caliente como dise mi abuelo si se acostumbra uno a el agua caliente es cuando se enferma uno porque donde yo cresi el frio llega a -10 grados no es nada agradable pero no es nada que no se pueda soportar con una buena cobija o una buena piel de bufalo o venado, saludos a todos. su amigo el tarahumara.

pobre gente, que pena vivir así, sin contaminación, sin deudas, sin delincuencia, sin corrupción, sin basura, sin prejuicios, sin necesidades superfluas, sin ruido, sin maldad, sin horarios. Solo tranquilidad, comiendo alimentos sanos y frescos que ellos mismos producen, rodeados por lo mas bello de la naturaleza y con sus mentes y sus almas tranquilas, en paz y felices. creo que visto así, somos mas miserables nosotros, comiendo basura, pagando hasta por el agua, deseando autos, ropa y artículos que no nos hacen felices; trabajando hasta 12 horas diarias sin poder disfrutar a nuestros hijos, a nuestros padres, a nuestras parejas porque todo es trabajar; trabajar para pagar las deudas, deudas que adquirimos por desear aquello que nos dijeron que nos haría felices, pero no fue así...
No se si son felices sólo ellos podrán decirlo pero viven sin maldad y sin envidias mil bendiciones para esa familia para estas fechas ya estan grandes esos nińos
como dice mi mama pobres ,pero felices y contentos ,son sus tierras sus costumbres y ay que respetarlas .
cuando creemos ser libres, somos más esclavos de la vanidad y del consumismo. ellos son más libres que nosotros. La riqueza esta en el espíritu.
