Lester always said that Sir Ivor was the best horse he ever rode. Sir Ivor had a blistering change of pace which was shown to great effect when he was delivered late to win the Washington D.C International at Laurel Park in 1968.

Sir Ivor went to America and beat Fort Macey by a comfortable length. Dr Fager beat Fort Macey by a similar margin carrying over 16 lbs more than Fort Macey in the United Nations Handicap, while running on turf for the first time.

Lester said that his favourite horse was Sir Ivor. He said the best horse he ever saw was Sea Bird the second.
He was so right, Sir Ivor was excellent but the French horse was something else.

Sir Ivor went on to win the Laurel International in America , the press slated Lester for his ride , but he rode him to finish strongly , that was their style..
