Convenient! My mother just got it because she was bored 😁

The sponsored CRAP RUINS THE VIDEO VIBE!!! 🤬🤬🤬 It has NOTHING to do with cooking!!! Annoying just like having to hear about cooking courses!!! 😫😫😫

Lilys garden is a fun game sorta like this love playing and also love your vids sm !!!
You can use club soda. No flavour, just the benefits. I used to do that all the time to make bread when I couldn't eat certain things.
What a great idea! I never considered club soda. 💙
That’s a great idea. I was thinking cream soda. But club soda would work.
I was going to say the same thing, I have done that in the past. it's just water and baking soda.
I use club soda. Works great!
Lemonade is also really good!
I'd love to see a 'how cheap you could make a cake?' challenge, like go to a supermarket, get all the ingredients and create a wedding cake with like $20 or something
I dunno, she spent about $50usd at the dollar store
@@kaitlynllewe906 exactly! And for all the things she bought, she could probably go to a supermarket and get the ingredients for everything a lot cheaper. I mean I'm from the UK so I don't fully know how it works in the USA but I could get things for a cake with that budget
Laurie is in Ontario ( province), 🇨🇦
@@denisegreene8441 WHAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?! I knew she was in Canada cause of dollarama but she is in my province❤❤❤❤❤
The only way you could make a wedding cake for $20 would be if you didn’t have to buy any tools, or supplies and you made a small cake comparable to a simple birthday cake. However I did once make a wedding cake for someone for about $25 (usd), but that didn’t include the cake stand, or the fresh cut flowers, and it was about 10 years ago. It was very small and simple, but it was beautiful. It was exactly what the bride requested. It was a 6in, single tier cake with off white buttercream, and fresh cut flowers, on a pedestal. Then I also made them 200 cupcakes. So their order was still around $600.
Lets persuade Kevin to do more baking challenges! 😀
LAY ON ALL THE PRESSURE!!! Someone posted a few mean comments and I think the haters hurt his soul a bit! But I know the rest of you love him so much! So all the love and all the pressure, keep it coming!
@@TheIcingArtistthat's awful, Kevin is amazing and we need to see him more! We love you Kevin 😀
I loved when Kevin did baking
@@prettysnowy2 Me too, he's good at it 😊
Yep! I am on board with that!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥💐
Pro-tip: If you want to make a homemade pizza and put pineapple on top, strain the juice from the canned pineapple then put it on a lined baking tray and bake it at 375F for 20 or so minutes until the edges start to darken. It keeps the pizza from going soggy, and the caramelization of the natural sugars gives you a deeper flavor profile.
This is the best tip!!!
@@kaylawest2088 Worked in a boutique pizza shop some years ago, picked up some tricks and learned some tasty recipes along the way I now make at home. Us pineapple on pizza loving individuals need to look out for one another.
That sounds amazing!
I'm an idiot and don't bake, I was picturing browning the pineapple juice instead of the sliced fruit. 😂
I love the idea of you making wedding cakes for fans! Maybe just have them not be for an actual wedding to take the pressure off? I want you to make my dream wedding cake!!! :)
Dream wedding cakes yes!! I don't plan on getting married but i definitely have an idea for a dream cake/wedding lol (just in case)
Yes or do birthdays or fun occasions instead! Or just because for people who have never had a super nice cake before due to the price!
With chocolate cake using soda, I think Dr. Pepper or Cherry Coke works much better flavor-wise. Also, our dollar stores have eggs and margarine, and we even have cake-decorating supplies like coloring and piping bags. I think it depends on the store.
That’s what I was thinking like my dollar store has most things that you would find in a fridge
Canadian dollar stores don't supply eggs or frozen dinners like the ones in the US. The only thing you can find in the fridge are pops and bottled juice.
Yeah Ours has everything to do this too
Same. But I think we have the 99 cents and More chain here in the US, and those are the ones with refrigerated ingredients. The Dollar Tree/Dollarama chain does not, and it looks like that's where she went. On the bright side, it definitely made for more of a challenge.
I was surprised she didn't use mayonnaise. The vinegar cooks out and it just acts like eggs. But all in all it was a, uh, plucky attempt!
That sucks that the dollar stores you shop at don't have fridges and freezers in the back. I love going to mine and getting the flavored milk, and egg rolls for all kinds of cheap.
It sounds like a US thing to have eggs and milk cheap enough for the dollar store, if I'm honest. I've never seen those things in any of the dollar store brands in Canada.
@@ArtistLunataliaeah I live in Georgia and they have lots of different stuff in the fridge and freezers in the back at the dollar trees and dollar general
In Canada our dollar stores never have fridges or freezers. Just ones at the front for pop or drinks
I know that was painful for you, Laurie. But it sure was entertaining and impressive how it turned out. Now we know if you're on a tight budget, the dollar stores got you. Most of our stores have eggs and dairy. ❤
Who else loves it when Laurie posts😃

I wish she post more . I found her channel like a month ago and went down a rabbit hole and have watched almost every video . Craving more videos where she compares different bakeries cakes .
Cooking the pineapple first, almost caramelized, is a great to make canned pineapple less watery. You do lose some texture, but the flavor is amazing!
I would have tried freezing the layers of the white cake... but you were already doing the best you could with what you had.
OHHH love this idea!!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how that pink hair/emerald head band looks😍😍😍 it's gold, you're rocking it Lorie😁
For sure my favorite headband 😍😍😍 the emerald is sooo stunning!
I was think the same thing! U rock that look!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looks great but wish it was tied up
You are SOOOO talented! And I ADORE your humor, intellect and creativity!
Kevin & you together interacting is a unique breath of fresh air : funny, kind, supportive, lovingly teasing, and just an amazing back and forth. Y’alls chemistry is off the charts!
🥰
I was thinking the same thing as I was watching the video. Love these 2 together, even though he is off camera, he is VERY much a part of every video.
Yes please do a budget wedding cake video.🌸💚🙃
Yes, yes, yes! Especially if you can keep it at the same budget, even if it’s the amount you originally paid at the dollar store.
Yes, that would be both entertaining and useful. And I bet your version will be much better than the dollar store cake.
My Dollar Tree has cake scrapers, icing tips, and other party cake tools. We also have eggs. I'd love to see videos of Laurie showing budget cake baking like this. Like I know they have different stores in Canada but I'd like to learn how to make simple cakes from Walmart/Kroger/Meijer ingredients. I love watching her normal videos but I either can't find or afford some of her ingredients. I like the 'take a store cake and redecorate' videos.
Love the idea
Our dollar trees don't have eggs or even half the stuff you guys do. Soo jealous!
Not to mention, most of the prices have gone way up an are all over the place.
As a Canadian this makes me really happy to watch you make something with these items, as they don't have super terrible stuff there. I have collected a bunch of Wilson cake decorating stuff from them, and you have to check every dollar store as they don't all sell the same stuff. Pretty sure I have gotten some offset spatulas there.
13:44 is where the real fun begins. Absolutely relatable. Love watching you guys!
The Benny Hill needed a montage, cos that song is unintentionally comical. I need that as a short ToDaY!
It's a great morning when Laurie and Kevin's new video pops up in my feed:D
Great way to head into the weekend!!
@@TheIcingArtist Tis🤗 I hope you and Kevin have a great one!
2:44 Like 15 years ago or something I got a cookbook where the devil cake recipe had a tiny bit Coca Cola in it, and it actually turned out good! It wasn’t enough to flavor the cake, and it worked great. It made the cake a bit more airy and soft, kinda. The amount was small enough to not affect the flavor, so I guess that might be the difference too, looked like you put a lot more in than the recipe I used had.
My mom also decorates all her cakes with flower in the summer, but she only uses edible flowers though, since a lot of flowers are actually edible. It makes it so fun for the kids in the family (nephews etc) to eat for some reason 😅
This was a lot of fun because I started decorating cakes with these ingredients. When I got into baking by family wasn't well off. I slowly just learned how to use cheap things to make better cakes, and the icing is honestly so much cheaper when you make it for yourself, but its cool to see this. It was like a blast of the past.
I LOVE IT WHEN U POST!!! Hi, Im a 13 year old baker myself and i love ur videos!! They are so inspirational to watch. Hopefully i will become a full time baker and i will have learned all my skills from you! Thankyou for doing what you do and i love you and ur videos so much. Also, HI KEVIN!!!!!
Hey Jake!!! You're a rockstar already! I only started decorating when I was in my 20s! Sending you all my love!
@@TheIcingArtist Awwwwww, This is why i love u cuz ur so sweet!!! I'll mention u on Instagram whenever I bake something next!!!!! Have a great day/night because rn in the UK it's midnight lol!!!! All buttons pushed, would love to see you guys more often. Please😁💖
THANK YOU!!!
My mom's secret for chocolate chip cookies has always been vanilla pudding mix (or chocolate for a chocolate-chocolate cookie): they are literally so crave-able and amazing!
You definitely need to make a video where you give a 5 star bakery and a one star bakery a cake to make but also you creating the same cake and see how different they are. Oh and have Kevin pick the cake inspiration photo.
I was just thinking that a budget cake using grocery store ingredients would be a good followup, and then you suggested it at the end!
Trust me we didn't expect it to be great we are here for the humor😂😂 We know you make awesome cakes.
When Laurie goes two forearms to the counter, you know the flavour is **everything** 💅
Laurie fixing that hot mess and making it cute so proud of you.
My kids and I saw the soda + box mix idea and tried it for science. It worked well enough! I can’t eat eggs, so it’s a neat trick for a quick treat. We use flavored seltzer water instead of soda. No extra added sugar is nice, plus fewer calories per serving.
I would love to have Laurie make my weddng cake! The amount of joy she puts into the cakes she does would definitely be felt!
I CAN-NOT believe how beautiful that turned it I kept thinking to myself ‘this IS a hot mess”
BRAVO 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
Please do the $50 Dream Cake!! Knowing the best places to invest for the pricier ingredients to make a really delicious cake would be GREAT knowledge to learn.
Love the cake!! It looks so prettyyyy
Also petition for Kevin to do more cake challenges🫡
The humour and you guys creativity wins literally man🙏🏾💕 can’t wait for more content!!
U and Kevin are the best since u have made me more confident in my baking and I’ve gotten better at it ever since I started watching u
Dollar stores here do have a refrigerated section with half dozens of eggs, butter, milk, cream or creamer/half n half, etc. But also, I think those are things most households probably keep on hand regularly. I'd love to see you make a scratch cake, filling and icing with dollar store staples, but use eggs, butter, etc. since those are things most people will have on hand. Also, if you still want to stick to only things you can buy at your dollar store, you could try a mayonnaise cake. Probably would taste better than using a soda, since it doesn't leave a flavor behind.
The end result is beautiful, love the colors.
I would love to see your take on a sheet cake wedding cake. So much space for decorating or being creative! Love the videos!!
Once you make your own frosting and use a can of frosting, it tastes like all chemicals. We grew up using canned frosting and it was good, but now having freshly made, no comparison.
Same!!! And buttercream from scratch isn't even that hard or time consuming!
Happy Friday 🎉🎉. Thank you for this video ❤
I just love your attitude! I mean I realize this is your job and you need to be upbeat and fun, but you shine through and I’m loving these videos! 🤗
I think this was my favorite one of your videos yet! I love your and Kevin’s banter and the text on the screen is so funny!!! I can’t wait for more of your content :)
Your decorating is sooo goooooood
not gunna lie... this one was a CHALLENGE!
Beautiful selection of flowers, I really like the small yellow roses.
This was so funny to watch. "The sugar is getting to
me"😂 It got progressively sillier and sillier! Thanks for the laughs!❤
There were so many issues with both tiers of the cake as well as the frosting.
But overall you managed to salvage it and make something very pretty!!
Always love these challenges!
In my area Dollar Tree, Dollar General and Family Dollar all have those items such as eggs, milk, produce and fruit. Haven't heard of Pepsi hack before LOL
I was going to say this! Ours has those things, too, just in smaller portions than the grocery store.
So much fun to see this. Thank you for the Buttercream Survival Guide. I downloaded it before I finished watching the video😄.
I LOVE THE TWO OF YOU SO MUCH!!! You can't ever break up, you're my weekly reminder that things can be good💝. And I think the cake is beautiful.
I have been looking for cheaper inexpensive ways to do my wedding cake because whew! Another video with your recipes would be amazing !! I would diy my cake for sure ! I've been seeing these acrylic tiers to elevate them as well ;) if you can incorporate those would be great too!
I’m from Australia & staying up late to ice cupcakes I need for tomorrow. Couldn’t be a better moment for you to upload & me to find 😂❤
hope your icing going smoother than mine😅
Your videos never disappoint! Well done it looks great!!
I have tears in my eyes from laughing. This was so much fun . Y’all are the best , just go with it , and try . ❤
I would love to see you make a cost effective wedding cake with your ingredients. I’ve done a chocolate cake with Dr Pepper, bringing out the cherry flavor. That one was pretty yummy
Not Laurie trying to fix all the mistakes for us while we cry in laughter of all the comments from Kevin.😂
Love your enthusiasm!
Girl! I'm amazed. Great work!
Can you do another “only using tick-tock hacks to decorate an entire cake” video? Lov you!❤
You shouldn’t be so anxious Laurie. If you make a duff cake we KNOW not to attempt it ourselves or if we do, it’s at our peril. 4.7 million of us can’t be wrong.
THANK YOU! I needed this lol!
I agree! Fails are soooo useful…I cannot afford to waste ingredients and need all the (not sugar-coated😂) info I can get!
This video was hilarious! Loved the cute banter between you guys 😆
Thank you for sharing this. I’ve had so many of these intrusive moments cake decorating when anything goes a little wrong. I feel so seen!
Good news! I’ve let my husband know that we’re getting divorced so we can have another wedding where Laurie bakes our cake! 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 LOL
@@TheIcingArtist Lmaoo the dedication is real but I think you could just do a vow renewal if you want a second wedding featuring a Laurie cake.
Well, that cake is about as straight as me, but the front of the finished product looked better than expected 😂
Hahahaha yup! Let's just not talk about the back..
LOVE the dynamic between you two!
I love the addition of the flowers and also, how you used the bbq brush to decorate it!! 🇨🇦
Ok story time. I tried to make my dad a Boston Creme cake, but I could not make my own icing so I used Betty Crocker. When I tried to put the frosting on, literal chunks of cake came off. I had no idea the frosting was so vastly different from your buttercream. So grateful for all your videos and all of your support in empowering us to try things on our own. We love you!
I feel like that could've been more of a baking problem than the frosting. Unless you were really roughing it up trying to smear on the frosting to end up pulling the cake apart...
I don't mean to sound mean or anything, I just never thought can frosting could do that, aside from possibly pulling off that very top layer unless the cake was already very delicate
Its wild what you did with stuff from the dollar store! What was your total spend for all your ingredients for this cake?
I used about 20 items on the actual cake! But some items were $1-$3 so I would say maybe $30 total with extra flowers left over and way too much filling lol!
I love the cake. Thank u for posting!❤
i love this videos soo much! her energy and their couple dynamic is soooooo cute!
Please do a wedding cake with your own ingredients! Also could you do a video where bakeries try making a cockette theme wedding cake? it would be very nice!! Great video by the way!
Lori you did so well it’s beautiful it show how well your skills are.
This is awesome! Love your creativity.
And your use of the word “pop” has solidified your coolness in my book!
Okay, I just have to say; for what it is, I think it turned out great. No one would guess, and as a budget cake, out of this world! I am a single mom of 3, and I love to bake and decorate cakes, but was never able to afford good ingredients when my kids were young, so have done a ton of hacks (and coverups) for their birthday cakes, so this video was amazing to see. You can accomplish anything with enough vision and creativity. Much love! ~Pita~
This was to fun to watch, what a challenge indeed! Yes, yes do it again!
That was very impressive!!! Great job working within the challenge!!! Amazing!!!
you two are adorable and very entertaining! Loved it!
Beautiful. You are a cake decorating genius!!!!!!!
Love this video and yes please please do a short on your icing recipe!
I was so excited to see this video come up today! Yay!
Ive previously used lemonade and solo in a vanilla cake mix. It's a much more subtle flavour 😊
