The Power of Prayer (With Greg Laurie)

- If we were to write what is known as the Lord’s Prayer, it probably would sound like this: “Our Father in Heaven, give us this day our daily bread. Let’s just get down to business. Here’s my list.”
There is a place for petition. There’s nothing wrong with asking the Father in Heaven for what you need.
However, let’s notice that the template for prayer Jesus gave us begins this way: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Luke 11:2 NKJV).
In other words, first take time to contemplate the greatness of God. There are exceptions, of course. If you fall off a ladder and you’re on your way down, a simple “God, help!” will do.
But when we begin our prayers by thinking about the awesomeness of God, it will cause us to see our problems, crises, and burdens in a different light. It will change our perspective as we recognize that God is bigger than our problems.
Let’s also notice that Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father in Heaven,” “Give us day by day our daily bread,” “And forgive us our sins” (emphasis added).
We need to pray with other believers.
There’s nothing wrong with asking God to forgive our sins and to provide our daily bread, but the emphasis is that it’s something we should do together. Christians need to pray with other Christians.
Have you ever been overwhelmed with something, and then you prayed about it with a Christian friend? You felt so much better after you prayed, didn’t you? That’s because there’s power in unified prayer.
Praying together makes all the difference in the world. The Bible tells us to bear one another’s burdens. Don’t do it alone. Don’t do life alone. Don’t try to be a solo Christian.

I spend all my time alone with zero family. I have a senior black lab 16 y\old with many health issues. Pancreatitis, diabetes, hip dysplasia, arthritis. Hes all I have in this world and also my best friend. Any prayers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Pastor for your loving kindness. Im 62 now and have been listening to you for many years. The power of prayer gave me the gift of tongues... this gift revealed to me why I was self destruction which led to my fire baptism. Glory to God! Do I have to use it to edify the church instead of myself?

So Pastor why does God not answer zillions of prayers?
Why did he not answer the prayers of Nuns dying horrible deaths of the Covid virus?

Aren't we sure they did all those things. So why did God still ignore their prayers?
God does answer prayers, but they are not always answered in the way we want them. He is not a genie, He is Sovereign. We don't always know or understand His plans for each of us, because we are not Him. We are to be humble to trust in Him and His eternal plan. Please remember that we are sinners, not perfect, and that no work or deed we do can save us, only trusting in His Son, Jesus, who died on the cross for those sins and was resurrected. The Bible teaches us, John, Paul have taught us that sometimes the most faithful are the ones who suffer, too. God didn't create the evils of this world, we are no one to judge His plans unless we are as proud as satan is. It is sad for all the loss of life whether it is covid, cancer, car accident. All of the tragedy should convict us to reach others so that they may be eternally saved. We will all face the one death, but it a choice to face the eternal second. That is something to pray about.
