This still has as much charm as the 110 year old Wuppertal, Germany inverted monorail. I would love to ride both of them when I visit their respective countries.
This one is actually more similar to the dortmund university monorail and the Düsseldorf airport monorail, both next door to Wuppertal. Pretty interesting, because only Wuppertal’s runs on steel rails with steel wheels. I think there is another one like that though, can’t remember. Pretty neat!
We saw this while going past it on the Narita Express last month. It was incredible. My son wanted to ride it, but we didn't have time to go into Chiba. But we are flying into Tokyo this Sunday to ride this with my son, who is a railway fanatic. Nice video of the Chiba Monorail. Looking forward to it!
I adore both Chiba and Shonan Monorail, that new model is wonderful, the seats! Not too unusual if one is from Wuppertal I think. :D Although I do have to wonder what happened to the AC with people fanning themselves so eagerly.
I think the Glass on the floor in the driver-cab are an emergency exit for evacuation via Fire department ladder or Fire truck (turntable basket). Because there are closures at the edges, so that they can be opened apparently, also a clear "gap" to see, they are not firmly glued.
In 2012, Eastern Japan including Chiba suffered "power crisis" after The Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 yet. So, the air conditioner temperature was too high for the passengers' comfort.
i suppose the advantage is that it can go more or less anywhere, along roads and across rivers and wherever you like, but it does show how incredibly enormous and intrusive those support pillars need to be, doesn't it . Nice to see the traditional air conditioning system still in use, mind.
We are building a new tram line here in Sydney, and many locals are protesting about the "visual intrusion" of the "ugly" overhead power wires. So we are getting a very risky in-ground power system, at many times the cost.
I guess those are the "I like it but not on my lawn" type of people like many here in Maryland, U.S. Anytime homeowners would protest putting a bus stop... a "BUS STOP" at a street corner in their community. Unbelievable.
I understand the need in Chiba to be upside down due to winter snow but from a technical standpoint given the noise reduction and tendency to be above ground designs why aren't more lines inverted as slotting into urban environments plus given that new maglev medium trains designs could do the same yet be quieter and as fast as Japan metro monorail is there a reason for not pushing more like this into China's mega city's or the proposed oz and miami links?
maybe I was unlucky when i went in 2014, all I remember was the roads were super slippery and the sobu line was a day of stop and go, the monorail was the only one unaffected
It's not just snow it's also if it's a bit under 0c all moisture will freeze and surely that wouldn't be good for a regular monorail. Also this configuration requires less supports.
Only in Japan! The last view over the city is amazing and futuristic but it seems like a huge waste of concrete and resources but then probably the only way of cutting through a heavily built area and traffic.
Since the early 20th century. First it was Wuppertal, Germany than it spread from there. Don't know why it didn't catch on here in the U.S. especially with 'Northeastern cities" that are about two centuries old.
In a region where snow is a possibility (maybe not chiba but if used in for example north europe) it can't get slowed down by snow as it can't get in the track. Same with ice, and weather generally can't affect the suspended monorail.

better go to Wuppertal in Germany.
I noticed this at the season 3 op of oregairu and immediately searched for it coz it's my first time seeing this and I'm curious...
wtf same
Dude same! 😂
haha oregairu is my fav anime
haha oregairu is my fav anime
I love the sounds of insects chirping in background
Good mix of technology and nature
Great video! I love the scenes at the yard and the switching movements!
Excellent video, much better than my old stuff from years ago.
great vid, its such a stress free way to travel , fantastic livery,
Awesome!!!
WOW!! ITS AWESOME...I WISH ALL FLOOR WOULD BE MADE OF GLASS
I don't! I was looking up ;)
what do you think is this train used for?
다양한 각도에서 찍어주셔서 감사합니다. thank you for the video with different angles.
I like these genius minded people of Japan, ARIGATO JAPAN!
Love it. Like having disney, one block aside.
20 tahun lg gan!
Theme-park ride,tourists love this stuff :)
CHIBA MONORAIL IS NON TRAFFIC RAIL AND IS BEAUTIFUL ONE.
So Cool!
Chiba Monorail 'Urban Flyer' , nice video, like it :)
This is what I call a Skytrain
Amazing!
Nice!
Ok
nice video
It's great!!!!
You can even look down at the street through the glass panels on the floor. No other train I've seen has this.
It's actually an emergency door and installed in the cockpit only
keren banget !! monorel gantung di tokyo.. :) coba di Jakarta ada seperti itu ..
Awesome
I wish we could have this in America!

There was a power crisis due to the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake.
Beautiful....
Somewhat reminds me of: Balck Mesa Transit System.

should TOTALLY have a glass floor!
you do know that this is a commuter railway right?
1:33
Its for transportation, not amusement park
Sure right, what else LOL
@@truthseeker508 Your hat!
I bet that cost a ton of money, but the views are incredible. Nice looking machine as well.
It's like a roller coaster. Interesting.
As much as I love the japanese creativity and smartness I would die after one minute in the flying train.
i suppose the advantage is that it can go more or less anywhere, along roads and across rivers and wherever you like, but it does show how incredibly enormous and intrusive those support pillars need to be, doesn't it . Nice to see the traditional air conditioning system still in use, mind.
AndreiTupolev Not anymore intrusive than a stampede of cars & pedestrians. I don't see what's the problem. The pillars are way out of anyone's way.

Sweet !..:)
Nice
Shonan Monorail (suspended monorail)was opened in 1970.
+MGH cnsGABA Wuppertaler Schwebebahn (Wuppertal suspended monorail) was opened in 1901
awesome o.O
cool
Superbe.
Anyone from Oregairu here ❣
30th anniversary of opening
This is some next level technology.
Hi. Well filmed. Must feel great to ride on that train?

eh?! ... it rarely snows in Chiba (^_^)
maybe I was unlucky when i went in 2014, all I remember was the roads were super slippery and the sobu line was a day of stop and go, the monorail was the only one unaffected

its like something from sci-fi films that show cities in the future.very cool. do you know how far it travels? does it go near Tokyo Disneyland?
It doesn't go near Tokyo Disneyland. It is located outside Chiba so.
That 3-phase motor sounds just like the Taipei Metro C371 and C381.
Sometimes the doors open on the left, sometimes they open on the right.
kayaknya seru banget
does this train allows overweight baggages or has a baggage weight limit?
would be nice if you could make another one in 4K
Brazil want it . amazing !
How do people get down in case of an emergency if they have to evacuate the train
That thing is really funny. In the Netherlands we dont have this :-(
we do in germany. 1 of a kind and the original one. was invented in the late 1800s in Wuppertal

It is Japan
Only in Japan! The last view over the city is amazing and futuristic but it seems like a huge waste of concrete and resources but then probably the only way of cutting through a heavily built area and traffic.
not only in japan. Wuppertal is the original owner of this invention. was invented in the late 1800s
Nicer than shonan monorail
Can you tell me this ?How do they get the folks down from urban flyer if it come to a stop between stops?
gebbletook It would be via fire rescue equipment.
I genuinely didn't know these were real
WOW 2011
nice all word.... trens

Shit, I'm gonna look like a mad man when I'm riding it someday.
it is really?
Narendra Nepali not its fake..thoo 🙄🙄🙄....of course its real..
This is the best mode of transport specially for congested city hope will get in India by 2050
can I ask though, doesn't it seem idk, scary? what if it's too heavy? 😳
It existed first in Germany.
amazon?
CAN THIS monorail climb mountain?
You can see my house in this movie.
kkk kkk that's cool
Shortest movie ever....lol
Hi

so, this thing already exist :| I thought just in Anime ..

système Safège !
So on the subway is in China does every single person have weird fruit in a basket and is coughing uncontrollably?
Luke Oleary here is city of Chiba country Japan, not China
it needs a glass bottom
There is a window on the floor of the driver's cabin.
we, the proud people of the original railway have alot of glass on our new trains
Yeah so the people below could see the passengers' undies. xD
do you even think this is like a tourist attraction or something..?
Noticing ladies fanning themselves. Are the cars hot or is it just nervous energy?
On the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake, there was a power crisis. So I guess they couldn't just be greedy. Info reference: a comment here
What are the advantages of that way?
In a region where snow is a possibility (maybe not chiba but if used in for example north europe) it can't get slowed down by snow as it can't get in the track. Same with ice, and weather generally can't affect the suspended monorail.
