DECK BOARDS As Siding?! - INSANE Backyard Pt 8

- In this video we are moving along to some of the interior and exterior details of this addition. We are installing Deckorators mineral based composite deck boards on the exterior walls as cladding. We have never used deck boards as a siding material like we are in this project so we had to pay special attention to flashing details. We also go over some of the details needed for proper ventilation on our roof. Baffles are installed under the insulation so that air can pass through the vented soffit and up through the ridge vent on the roof.

The purple "attachment" was awesome! I ripped some overstock Trex to trim around my garage windows, so many uses for composites!

Perhaps I missed it. But how are you going to keep bugs out of the rain gap behind the siding boards? I didn't see anything that sealed the bottom from bugs while letting the air move through. Great video guys!
Thanks a lot!! Pavers will come up to the bottom so there won’t be any gap there and I think the gap is tight enough that it won’t encourage pests to hang out

I have done that to a commercial building… Panda Express but I wouldn’t do it on residential as it will leak eventually
Definitely more common on commercial, but I feel really confident in it…layer of house wrap, then 30# felt, and paying close attention to any areas in need of flashing
