Charlotte bishop preaches about Trump shooting

  • During a visit to two Catholic churches in the North Carolina mountains Sunday, Bishop Michael Martin, OFM Conv., responded to the shootings and attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump by reassuring parishioners that God is powerful enough to help them overcome any evil and urging them to use their faith to show love in a chaotic world. Ordained just six weeks ago as the Bishop of the Diocese of Charlotte, which covers the western half of North Carolina, Bishop Martin was in Highlands to offer Mass and break ground for Our Lady of the Mountains’ new church. He started out Sunday at St. Jude Church in nearby Sapphire, saying Mass and also addressing the attack in Pennsylvania that killed one rally-goer and injured two others.
