I bought one back in March, also my first 6 string. Played about 40 gigs on it so far and it is the most comfortable (balance, weight, neck) I've ever owned.
Silver with black hardware is always such a cool color combo.
It's SLIIIICCCCKKKKK
When are you going to do the BTB605MS? The 37 inch fanfret from ibanez
I just got this same bass yesterday and agree: this is the best neck I’ve ever felt. Especially considering the fact it’s a 6 string
Great video! So many people want 37 inches, but 37 inches isn’t the magic B length. People are misunderstanding the purpose of fan frets. It’s more so about evening string tension and as such, tone & volume. Shortening the higher strings below 34 inches actually makes them sound fatter and fuller.
Compare a Les Paul to a Strat. It’s only a 0.75 inch scale difference but it’s noticeable. I’ve seen many 6 string electric and acoustic fan players use the 24.75 to 25.5 fan design for the best of both Les Paul and Strat.
Sheldon Dingwall did not base his 37” B on math, he just kept playing with distances until he found one that sounded good to him. Just look at a full-size grand piano… the same B note there is more like 77 inches long!! Then there’s a piano that is 19 feet long 😲.
Dingwall has been using the same 37 inch fan design for about 30 years. However they only became popular and “mainstream” when 8 & 9 string guitars took over. As someone else mentioned here, 37 is more critical for people tuning to G, F or even lower. Don’t get me wrong, 37 makes an awesome B! I’m just saying it’s not perfect. A full size double bass has a 40 to 44 inch E string!
I have an Ibanez SRMS806 which is 33.6 C to 35.5 B. I can drop A and it sounds awesome. You can hear the difference between A & B. However it’s 10 pounds and I’m getting too old for this 😅. I’m looking at this headless & chambered Ibanez as a weight loss option. I’ll miss the Hipshot drop tune option, but I can just learn to play in drop A all the time.
Dingwall was going to make headless basses but COVID pushed that to the back burner with all the factory shut downs and production falling behind. I would love see one of those!😃
Great vid! Love the bass, hate the jack lol. I'm too lazy to swap out the locking jack on mine haha
I would just trip on the cable 😂
Locking jack is a pain, definitely not worth the hassle.
YOU FOOL! THE CABLE GREMLINS WILL COME FOR YOU IF YOU REVERT TO A NORMAL JACK ☠️
But I feel that lol
You can remove the locking pin in 5 minutes. Instructions on Talk Bass.
Wow a demo of a fanned fret bass that shows clean tones, and NOT just a bit-crushed fuzzed out tappy tappy mess.
When I see a bass guitar like this one, I just don't understand why anybody in their right mind would spend the same money or more on a...Fender Jazz or Precision bass. Seriously, gorgeous body shape, headless, fanfret multiscale, versatile pickups and preamp and also relatively lightweight.
Gonna tell you the cliché answer from an experienced bassist who has own and tried all kind of different basses (boutique included). You go with that's bass (which sounds good ngl) to a recording session, and the producer will say: "Yes, sounds cool....do you also have a P-Bass?" There is a reason why classic design are still so demanded and popular, cause they were designed to sound the best in the mix, right in the spot frequencies between all the instruments. As I said, I've had many basses, most of the boutique ones have amazing features and sounded great and unique when playing alone at home, yet their performance is worse against a standard or vintage P-Bass in the mix in a recording or live situation... .so that's why.
At the end of the day after more than 70 years of history the basses are not rocket science, you just put a good electronics in the right spot and that's it, sounds great for its purpose which is to serve the music. And that is a P or a J bass.
@@LCA1985 Even if could achieve the P/J-bass tone with other bass models?
@@D14V0R05 The electronics and the distance of the pickups in regards the dimensions of the bass are the most important. For that you need to have good P/J pickups in the right spot on the bass... of course that's relative and there's dozens of versions of P/J variants. My previous comment was more regarding the modern bass features and designs like the Ibanez one.
1. Great first name.
2. DAT TONE @ 3:12 (scratch that, the tone you got THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE VIDEO!) is GROWLY, warm, punchy, and thiccccc! IMO, it sounds like the perfect balance and blend between a warm vintage tone and a hi-fi detailed modern tone.
...I might have to pick one of these up.
One thing I love about your reviews is that you play with a pick! Thank you!
I'd never had any desire to own a 6-string until I saw this instrument. I demoed the 1005 and 1505 recently and while they weren't quite my style, I loved the design and the neck. On a 6-string the headless multi-scale thing makes a ton of sense, and getting it to under 8 pounds is a real feat. So now my GAS is raging again, thanks.
I love the idea of these basses, but I've yet to heard a demo where they don't sound oddly thin and lifeless. I can't quite put my finger on what I'm hearing
No se🤔
Sounds great to my eyes, but to each their own!
@@patrickhunter How do you hear with your eyes?!?!?🤯 What is this lifehack?!?!?!
@@T-Hawkeyes fuck😂😂😂😂
That's honestly how I've felt about Ibanez as a whole for a long time. Something about their sound just seems somewhat bland.
@@ampthebassplayer certain demos make them sound as what I would describe as “plastic-y”.
I’m going to buy one of these some day! It’ll be the only bass I’ll ever need for my prog metal shenanigans!
Been strictly a Warwick guy for a long time. Want something that doesn’t weigh as much and I think this is my solution!
Damn.. GAS!!!
Great playing
Ive always wanted a 6 string … I like this
Ahhh Ibanez...
When you have to "settle" with surf green because they don't do it in sparkle pink... And pastel pink was a limited Japanese run...
I genuinely wish their colourways weren't limited to specific models.
If Ibanez made a premium ehb with those pickups in a five string I'd sell my basses at light speed for it
Funny I had a Conklin GT7 with that Neutrik locking jack. This was more than a decade ago and the design is unchanged! But still used very little sadly.
I have the matte black 5 string. Also not a massive fan of Bartolini's but with my amp it just works haha
Hello, luv to know what bass is that above your left shoulder. That's a beautiful finish❤
A beast playing a beast bass
Still waiting for your review on a Overload Achilles4/5/6 bass review
How hard would it be for Ibby to have a "direct purchase" online interface where you could pick body color/stain, pickups (not config, just pickups that fit), and preamp (again, not the # of knobs, just what uses them)? Something like that would give them options to charge (prolly at a premium) but limited enough that it wouldn't be overwrought...
Pick on a 6 string. Not sure i've ever heard that. Very cool
That intro riff was great! That's how a 6 string should be played
Did you demo the single coil sound? If not, will you?
lol, I saw the first bit of the video without sound. I was expecting some djent stuff:) those T1 humbuckers sound absolutely nice. Im buying the Btb806MS...that also have the T1`s. Worth every penny:) My friend have an alembic. This bass sounds bettr in my ears.
I love these basses for their craftmanship and playability, but I think something has to be done about the pickups. Somehow they manage to sound dark and thin at the same time.
Too bad the neck scale was not extended to a longer one of up to 37" you'll get more tension so that low note can come out more. I am still finding a lot of youtube demos of fanned fret the lowest note seems to drop out in tone, string guage thickness??
In general, I like the idea. I'd like to get one in hand. But I'm not super crazy about going for a 6 string headless, because that really limits your string choices.
I also would prefer to get it in a passive model. I know it can go into passive mode, but I'd just as soon not have an active system and do other things with those knobs and switches. Plus, it seems odd to me that they would use this split coil design and not make it an actual split coil... I think I understand why they did it, but I still don't really like that they did it.
The headpiece system allows you to use any strings. Might run into issues with flat wounds and tapewounds but they have been successfully installed as well.
Another buyer of this bass said he returned it cause it felt cheap. Said the plastic knobs were coming loose. And thought it was over priced. Did you get the same feeling from this bass or do you still recommend it? I’m in the market for a quality 5 string bass. Looking to spend around 1.5k on it
I have one, the overall quality is a disaster, my 3rd EHB and the second to have a bad QC / finish quality. It feels very cheap yes. BUT it sounds great and very comfortable after some little setup tweaks. You can go for it, but don't expect a high quality instrument
got him a week ago, very happy the i can play the real cool chords now,but can you help me please about the strings,i cant find them, the ibanaz page, says D'Addario® EXL170-5SL + .032,is it super long scale ?like the spector fanfret or what ?i dont understand?or can i use regular 6 strings?thanks for help
The scale length doesn't make a lot of sense to me. When I get a multi-scale I don't want a shorter scale on E thru G strings, I get it because I want a longer scale on the B string.... This line in Ibanez seems to be a bit of a miss for me on that aspect.
I get it, but this is perfect to get good tention on standar tuning. The longer scale, like 37 is perfect for downtuning. It’s not "one bass to rule them all", It’s one bass for each tuning.
The 33" G-string on this bass is a gamechanger✌️
1) Pink, 100% yes. 2) 35-37", no thanks, benfitting the B at the expense of the c
loved playing them but nothing for me because i like to tune to the attack and not the sustain of the note. any way this is easy to do on a headless instrument? 👀
All I want is a 37” multi scale headless bass The 35” is the only thing stopping me
Buy the btb
its future bass
Again, you're killing me trying to figure out how you've mounted the EHB1505 behind you! There's no headstock to hold it in hangers. That beauty is gonna fall!!! 😂
If I remember right the end of the neck flares out a little so it can use normal stands lol
Just tape up the arms on the holder to make it a little tighter, and it will never fall down. Use a gravity auto-locking holder, it’s perfect✌️
Both viable explanations, but I'd never trust my EHB to hang like that. 😂
yap, 37 would be amazing
Hey can anyone attest to the MR5S bridge? Looking to get the BTB806MS and set it up for F# standard and I'm not sure is a 186-200 gauge string is going to fit or not. Please help!!!!
Such a shame we don't have an European shop like Sweetwater. They seem really great!
Thomann...?
Yo Patrick. Did you check out the wiring on these? I was thinking of getting one and modding it with two 3way switches for parallel/single/series but don't know if the pickups have the capability for such.
everything about this bass is great... except the body shape (just personal preference). If they ever reissued the Axstar line... that's another story.
I used to have the matte black 5-string version. It was beautiful, but the pickups weren't for me. It's the only bass I regret selling.
Dude, I'm just not a fan of Bartolini soapbars, seriously the ONLY thing I don't like about my ehb1005ms Idk what it is, but theyve just always sounded so lacking to me
@@patrickhunter reason is its not a real bartolini because its linsencend its made in china and aftermarket pickup they use thats why they sound dull
@@patrickhunter Do you now any pickups that sound similar to the T1 but fit into the bartolini P4 space of the ehb1005ms as a replacement for the bartolinis?
The problem with Ibanez basses is that comes with proppickups and you can not swap them.
Why would you need to swap them out if they are already top quality?
String recc for downtuning?
You feel as if the C is nice to have , or would you downtune it in 4ths to have a F#BEADG ? That's my plan . I have 2 6 strings and plan on switching it up to have both .
youre gonna need a super long scale length for the f sharp
i own the big brother EHB1506ms
Not "EYEbanez".... EEEEEBANEZ lolllll 🤣
hey patrick love your videos! could you also review the string short scaled variant, the ehb1005sms!
Sweeeet
I want it so bad but I dont have a job so 😢
In your opinion, how does it compare to the dingwall NG-3?
I don't think anything compares to a NG-3 lol
@@ODSTpods117 😂
@@ODSTpods117 facts right there lmao
Personal taste but I can't stand the look of headless basses. Just looks like something is missing. It would be like fender introducing a headless strat.
Like the sound of the Nordstrands better.
Too bad the scale isn't a 37" to 34
Buy a btb
@@anotakudetective1546 I think you are missing the point...
@@Musicisawesome100 You want a 37 inch bass right? You just want no head or smth?
I always say: 6-string basses are for show-offs. The 6th string being higher adds nothing that is a "need". Modern metal player need a lower 6th strings XD
Great video as always!
I mean, Nolly tunes his 6 string to low F# standard so this is a thing (only used it on a handful of Periphery songs but still)
