  • Hey y'all, here is part two of my discussion and experience of changing out pickups for high end ones.
My advice is to really take your time before you leap and blow half the money the guitar cost on high end pickups. Honestly there's a lot of BS going round and a insular hirarchy on this subject. Think about it before you go forth and squander.
hope this discussion finds you well. Take care be cool, I'll talk to you soon.
    Love RT ❤️💫✨

Thanks Richard, I think in hindsight what I should have done is got some filtertron covers and put those on both Rat and Tri Five. My biggest issue was I didn't like the look of them. 🙄 👍❤️💫

Gotta smile at that revelation myself..😂😎👍
Have been guilty of stage appearances in lieu of sonic considerations...😊
Luckily, like yourself, came to my senses 😁😎👍
Live and learn...Repeat as neccessary 🤣😎

The G512X are also most acoustically open than the 5410s. Maybe the issue are the pots and caps?

Indeed the 5129 is open, I loved the feedback when I gigged this guitar. The same happened with the Rat Rod, it sounded harsh and dark. I may put a wax n paper cap on the tone. I've got CTS pots and a heap of orange drops. Don't think bit will make a difference in this case. It's a sound idea. Thanks for the input. 😎👍✨

The SD pick ups never match other brands your right they will be out of phase I would just get another TV Jones bridge for the tri 5 and sell the Seymour and take the hit. Good informative video again RT the rabbit hole of pick up changing is a strange one.

Thanks for the input Andrew, sorry I missed this. I put a Setzer signature in the bridge and settled for a HS in the neck 😎👍✌️

You can definitely hear the 5129 has an open and brighter tone compared to the tri-five and from watching your earlier tri five videos the black tops were also more open and brighter. I'm not knocking the SD bridge pup as it doesn't sound bad just different but there's definitely less "twang" on the bridge with the SD (the TVs sound great though). Love the aesthetic of traditional filtetrons on Gretsch guitars but the tones from the blacktops and bucker sized Vanson P90 actually sound really good to my ears……I'm sure a few Gretsch purists will disagree but we all have our preferences . 🍀👍

Thanks for the input Djangle, I agree the SD is not that bad and Gretsch like. It's possible this pickup will come into its own cranked. I did another discussion this morning but had to bail as all guitars were going Sharp. The Tri Five was tuned to pitch! When I picked it up it was wildly out of tune. The atmospheric electro magnetic phenomenon 😅 now there's a discussion for the future. Don't blame the Bigsby etc 🤣 ✨💫
