    I actually still actively work in trackers as my main method of writing music, and actually am working on a modern tracker, so this is really neat to me.

  • @ToyKeeper
    @ToyKeeper Před 4 lety +7

    FWIW, the traditional tracker method of doing swing is to alternate the tempo back and forth on each row. Typically this was done using the A effect, like going A05, A07, A05, A07, etc... but I think on this device it would be the T effect. Probably like T100, T140, T100, T140, etc. This effectively creates a global swing effect, but it eats up one of the effect channels in one of the tracks. At least it's easier than applying micro-timing to each note, though.
    Edit: Oops, someone in chat said the same thing at around 45:30. :)

    In case this video is still watched nowadays:
    1:04:00 One way to deal with triplets is to use the micro-move FX. In a 4/4 pattern, you'd put a HiHat on step 1 (no micro-move), on step 2 (micro-move 33) and step 3 (micro-move 67). That way, the HiHats are evenly spaced out over 4 steps. Yes, it's a bit tedious process (as opposed to for example on an MPC, where you simply quantize a recorded track with triplet or swing timing), but you only have to do it once for 4 steps and then you'd copy-paste the selection throughout the remaining pattern.
    When working with 3/4 or 6/8 rhythms, it is possible to change the 'pattern divider' from 4 to 6 in the config menu. So every 6th step is highlighted (of course you could use any other number as well and thus work with 5/4 beats, 7/8 beats or whatever).

I was pretty into Renoise for a couple of years, so I feel like this should be right up my alley, but at the same time, I can't help but wonder why I would buy this over a cheap laptop. Trackers were built around that PC interface anyway, so for someone familiar with that paradigm, I don't really see what this offers.

      @@RedMeansRecording :D In a different comment (2 years ago) a user asked whether you think you'll continue using it, to which you anwered 'Definitely'. No offense at at, but it illustrates the point hat one is easily hyped by a machine and then it sits on the desk collecting dust after a while...
      Still I think it's a subjective thing. For me personally, I was blown away by the Tracker reviews. Once I got it, it took several months until my muscle memory kicked in and everything. Nevertheless, nowadays it's my go-to hardware sequencer.

    Looks interesting but at the same time, too complicated for someone that's used to standard step sequencers.

    Isn’t this almost close to a Ableton push 2?

      No. The push is a midi controller

      Red Means Recording and this is?? A tracker? Sorry there’s too many names for all this gear. I’m a noob when it comes to instruments

      @@0zymanndias773 Push controls ableton meaning when not plugged in to ableton its essential a big black brick. Ableton is linear recording... Tracker is basically step sequencing in vertical fashion with parameter per line.

      basedvato so this could be used without being connected to a DAW? I’m looking for something that could be used without a computer

      @@0zymanndias773 Yea this is stand-alone, no computer. But honesty as a first piece of gear I don't know if I'd chose this. Depending on your style I think MPC Live / One is a great starter and bridge of standalone, and can also be used with a computer.

    I have never been into trackers in the software world. So this looks more complicated to me than my Octatrack during the 1st few days.
    "Hooray! Finally some gear I don't need. I'm so happy!" :)
