This song is about a relationship that ended badly: this is the encapsulation of what really was going on with Deep Purple. My take is that it is about Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore. Jon Lord said as much too; he reflected that they once "shared a room and idk what went wrong". And it was at that moment I saw Deep Purple in a whole new light. For all their brilliance, couldn't unsee that and what it implied.
