I too bought that deck earlier today at my local Target. I’m a newbie & these are my first tarot cards. After doing some research, I was a bit indecisive about which cards I should purchase as a beginner… but luckily those were the only ones in the store (which solved my indecisiveness). Perhaps the Essential Tarot were meant to be my first deck.

While the pip part was a vast improvement on most, I'm still irked it isn't stated on the box. Someone more versed in tarot could take note of it from two of the images on the back, but a lot of people wouldn't know. This deck had both hits and misses for me. I wanted to like it more than I did. Ironically enough, it was some of the major arcana that underwhelmed me rather than it being pip.

I got this deck some time back and was so disappointed with the card stock. It’s basically an arts & crafts for kids cardboard type of quality and what you’d give to a new tarot student and don’t mind scratch marks or damages. They should have really invested as much time on the actual deck as much as they spent on the packaging. The only saving grace is the guidebook other than the box

The Lovers / Devil duality is not that creative, it’s one for one from the RWS. Gemini (The Lovers) and the Devil (Capricorn) are in direct opposition to each other on the astrology chart. This is a very traditional representation.
