- Excuses can keep us from coming to Christ, but the truth is the path has already been laid out for us. All that's needed from us is belief and repentance-and Jesus Christ made the way for that.
In his 1985 sermon from Anaheim, California, Billy Graham explores this theme through Jesus' parables in Luke 14, where the Pharisees are also struggling with excuses.

So,... what? Jesus will just ignore all of those suffering people if you don't beg him for help? Of course, he's going to ignore them _anyway,_ right? None of that is going to make the slightest difference, and you _know_ it. There will still be suffering "families children animals," either because your god is just imaginary or because that's exactly the way he wants it.

Was it God's will for us to sin? No. It's not God's fault what the consequences of our actions are. Just like God will not be responsible for YOUR sins.

9:35, you mention that we can't trust our own minds or conscience because they've been affected by sin. This is intriguing, but also puzzling. If we can't trust our own judgment, how can we be sure about our decision to follow Christ? Wouldn't our 'sinful' minds potentially mislead us in matters of faith too? I'd love to hear your perspective on how we can navigate this dilemma and find true spiritual clarity.
That's a really good question. I think when he says that you can't trust your minds or conscience he's referring to sin. Of course it's not as easy as that but remember when you're of the world you "think" of sinful things and your mind is sensitized in such a way that your conscience is broken so to speak and so the longer you allow sin to grow rampant in your heart and mind it's the more you're led astray hence why he says that you can't trust your own minds or conscience. On the contrary, when you come to God by faith, he starts to change you and change the way you think and softens your heart so that you become sensitive to wrongdoing. Philippians 1:6 says that “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” This simply means that even though you're still in the world and even though you essentially still have the same mind and the same conscience, spiritually your mind and conscience has now been transformed in such a way that you are conscious of right and wrong. In summary, the distinction between "trusting your own minds and conscience" is dependent on your relationship with God or if you're still of the world.

He means what all preachers of every religion mean. He means you're supposed to trust _him._ He means you're supposed to trust what _he_ tells you about _his_ god, _his_ magic book, _his_ religion. You're supposed to believe what _he_ believes.
That's what every religious apologist from every religion means. You can't trust your mind, so believe what _this_ person tells you (but not what the other people preaching other religions tell you).
Well, if you buy _that,_ you probably _shouldn't_ trust your mind, huh? Heh, heh. Unfortunately, your mind is all you've got. Even if you don't give a crap about what's true and just want to feel good about what you were taught to believe as a child, that's still your mind - your poor, flawed mind.
I believe that living in the US in this troubled times, you must understand better than anyone that you can be at the same time full of religious zeal and really objectively sinful. I don't see a lot of love thy neighbours in the political stance of some US christians... One has to understand it doesn't just happen to unreligious peoples or to the church next door, so you have to discern really hard. Its a call to self doubt and scepticism about your own beliefs, especially when you're feeling self righteous. Graham was nearly considered an apostate for the evangelical fundamentalist crowd, too oecumenical and "liberal" according to them. Yes, even religion has its nuances...
Good question, but the teachings of Jesus aren't things from your mind. They're not your own thoughts. These are God's thoughts. God's teachings. So you surrender your own, and take up His.

They were written down by human beings who'd never even _met_ Jesus, as far as we can tell. Those anonymous authors don't even _claim_ to have ever met Jesus, right? And that would be assuming that Jesus was a god in the first place!
So how is that different from 'God's thoughts' in the Quran, the Bhagavad Gita, the Book of Mormon, or any other supposed 'holy book'? OK, _you_ were raised to believe in _this_ particular holy book, I suppose, but other people were raised to believe in other holy books. So, again, what's the difference?
It's not *evidence,* as far as I can tell. Christians never even _try_ to back up their claims with actual evidence. Admittedly, neither do Muslims, Hindus, Mormons, etc.

My 'excuse' is that there seems to be no good reason to think that this stuff is actually _true._ And I care about the truth.
Belief is not a choice. I can demonstrate that to you, if you want, but it should be obvious. We're either convinced of something or we're not. And as long as Christians seem to have nothing - *nothing* - distinguishable from wishful-thinking backing up their religious beliefs, I can't believe it, too. I can't even take it _seriously_ without *something* distinguishable from wishful-thinking.
Show me one piece of good evidence, specific enough and in enough detail that I can judge it for myself, that your god is real, rather than just imaginary. Or one piece of good evidence that _any_ of the magical/supernatural stories in the Bible actually happened. Just *one.* Why is *one* too much to ask? But it always is.
Bill I was once like you, I was so doubtful of God and wanted to commit suicide, but one day I decided to find God by myself to know if he really exist or not, so I started reading the Bible everyday but before reading i did what Christians normaly do, and that is to pray to the holy spirit of God to give me understanding using the name of Jesus Christ my king, and he answered and gave me understanding because I called on him, and I kept studying and the holy spirit kept reveling things to me, and I get to understand that God exist and not just that he exist I also find out that God loves me more than himself, and not just that I also find out that I can't be sick again through reading the word of God and till date brother Bill I haven't been sick, God gives Joy and peace that money can't buy, and lastly I found my purpose on which I was created on earth, the very thing billions of people on earth are still figuring out, I found it through studying and meditating on the world of God because he loves us just like he loves himself my can you imagine that. brother Bill you get to understand that through studying and meditating on your Bible that your joy would be filled through Christ Jesus.
If you want to start this journey of joy and total peace Just take Atleast 30minutes of your time each day to read the Bible and you would see that you would love the Bible and it would help you depart away from sin without you even knowing and you would find true joy just like me, I need you to know one more thing Is not by your power nor by your might but by the spirit of the Lord, Jesus Christ is the only one that kind help anyone in this wicked world we live in.
You can't find God in churches anymore or in the world, if you really want to know God more personally then Study and meditate on his word which is the Bible.

Don't get me wrong. If believing this stuff is the only thing keeping you from committing suicide, then keep believing it. Whatever works. (But I'd _strongly_ recommend counseling. Talk to your doctor about that.)
But if you want _me_ to take this stuff seriously, I'm going to need at least *one* piece of good evidence that your beliefs are actually _true._ Got anything?
I've read the Bible - most of it, at least. And I'd strongly recommend that Christians actually _read_ their Bible, and not just the pleasant bits picked out for them by some apologist. That's the best way to make atheists that I know. Unfortunately, most Christians have never read it. Most don't seem to even know what's in it!
