    Here are two ways to learn how to stretch a baby in trunk rotation. Trunk rotation is important for sitting, transitioning from sitting to crawling, rolling, and walking. It is often the missing link for baby's who are not yet crawling or rolling on their own.
    Note: the second exercise is similar to a Total Motion Release position and can be utilized both in the traditional model of stretching to increase range of motion (lengthening) or using the TMR principles to increase range of motion (shortening).

      Hi! Thank you so much for your comment, you guys are so nice! I'm glad you are loving the videos. I just wanted to mention that I am a pediatric PT (not a Pediatrician) just to clarify, but am here to help with all things movement! If you guys are interested, I have created four free online courses to try to organize all the content so it is the most helpful. There is learning to roll, sit, crawl, and walk all located here: drlaurenbaker.com/courses they will be free for life so feel free to bookmark the page but only sign up for the courses that are currently relevant! Each next course is linked at the end of the milestone before to make it easy too. Good luck and congrats on your babe!

    This is great im going to start doing this exercise. How long would you say before i start seeing the effects?

      @DrLaurenBaker  Před 2 měsíci

      Each baby is different so that is a tough question to answer. Typically if there are no underlying conditions, most babies will see results in a few weeks (often sooner). But this is also depending on whether mobility is the biggest concern. If strength is actually the limiting factor, then unfortunately this exercise wont help. That is why I recommend grabbing the free online course here: drlaurenbaker.com/courses

    My baby struggles to move the hips while rolling towards right side. Her hips move towards left she kind of pulls to right and rolls to right side. She rolls to left side easily.
    Could you please tell which thigh of the baby should be stretched as part of exercise 2 so that she can roll comfortably to right side as well

    • @DrLaurenBaker
      @DrLaurenBaker  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi Ramya! If a baby has tightness that is limiting them from rolling to the right, usually when placed in the position their right shoulder will be further away from the floor, than completing this position on the left (where the left shoulder is closer to the floor). When I created this video, I talk about completing both directions based on the traditional style of stretching. Since then, Ive taken more classes and learned more techniques and a technique that I like better than traditional stretching is called total motion release. It works in the same position as shown in the video BUT you ONLY hold the easy side (whichever direction the shoulder is closer to the ground) for 1-2 minutes and then follow up with 30 seconds to one minute of bouncing while you hold them, then work on rolling. Its different but works amazingly well!
      Without seeing your child in person it, it is hard to tell which side is considered “easy” but because you state going to the left is easier for her, it is probable that her left shoulder comes more easily to the ground than her right (do both sides though to test yourself).
      Whichever side is EASY is the shoulder to the ground side that you HOLD.
      The most comprehensive resource on rolling though is this book that I released in October - 📚 Tummy Time & Learning to Roll - amzn.to/3u2NKqk (affiliate link) - rolling is complex and while rotation is one piece, it may not be the whole picture so I highly recommend any parent have it as a resource if their baby is showing signs of rolling easily in one direction and having a harder time in another. It also walks through exactly WHY that could be happening way more in depth than I am able to do in a comment! There are checklists and a video course as well - I hope it helps and thank you so much for the comment!

    Is it normal that 6 month old baby is not holding head properly

    • @DrLaurenBaker
      @DrLaurenBaker  Před měsícem

      Hi Tamanna, head control is very difficult to share specific details on via a comment since it's so subjective. Here are the ways we typically look for head control:
      - Lifts head to 45 degrees on belly by 2 months
      -Lifts head to 90 degrees on belly (straight up and down) by 3-4 months
      -Holds head steady while in supported sitting by 5 months
      -Can roll back to belly and belly to back by 6 months
      -Can sit independently by 8-9 months
      Most head strength is created during play positions (on tummy, on back, on either side) and if baby is not rolling my book for tummy time and rolling can help: amzn.to/3u2NKqk (affiliate) (available via kindle in multiple countries and paperback in some countries).
      By 4-5 months most babies have head control and if a baby is not meeting any of the milestones listed above it is recommended that you inform your Pediatrician and seek the services of a Pediatric Physical Therapist/Physiotherapist in your area. I can also assist more via an online parent consultation that can be booked here at anytime: drlaurenbaker.clientsecure.me/request/service
      I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
