  • Being the son of Pharaoh's daughter, the privileges that came with the position greatly enhanced Moses' orientation. His education and exposure made him a seasoned thinker. His forty (40) year experience in the wilderness shapened him into a great leader.
The children of Israel on the other hand
had been slaves in Egypt for four hundred and thirty (430) years. That experience did collateral damage to their minds and orientation.
The torture, derogatory statements, deprivation, withdrawal of privileges, and hard labour made them feel inferior, intimidated, and emasculated. They had no voice, no choice, just broken submission and daily routines.
Slavery inhibited their creativity, innovation, and sense of adventure. It also inhibited their ability to be ambitious and robbed them of the capacity to think futuristically.
Their defeatist mentality made them unwilling to seize opportunities or take risks. Worse still, the experience narrowed their orientation to survival mode and shot down their expectations to ordinary dietary hand-downs.
This underscores the fact that slaves or people with the slave mentality lack coping mechanisms. Little wonder that leading them was extremely difficult.
Dear parent, children are God's gift to you. Lead (train) them aright. Shapen them with the right principles and orientation that will enable them develop the grit required to handle any kind of situation. Remember, God is raising an endtime army of valiant soldiers not weaklings.
