  • Remember when I used to stream? Me neither. Anyway, here's what I would have said on stream - if I streamed - but in a more coherent format, about the upcoming summer event patch and the brand new region of Natlan!
No timestamps, spoiler warnings, or citations this time. This is pure, unfiltered theorizing just like a stream. But without the streaming.
    I should stream.

something that made me mad were people saying that Natlan should be desolate and colorless just because it is the nation of war. Like hello? snezhnaya 'land of love' doesnt look so loving does it? and Inazuma 'land of eternity' isnt stuck in a stasis bubble. the entire point of the ideals of the gods is to put them in question and play with your expectations.

    • @Chaffee738
      @Chaffee738 Před 9 dny +54

      I know right?
Mondstadt(freedom): "What is freedom? Are you free if your god tells you to be free?"
Inazuma(eternity): "What is eternity? Is it just perpetual stasis or is it acknowledging that the world is ever-chanigng and embracing every transient moment?"
Sumeru(wisdom): "What is wisdom? Is it just having access to a lot of information or is it the mental aptitude to make your way through the challenges of life?"
Fontaine(justice): "What is justice? Is it just judging and punishing criminals or is it about finding doing the right thing?"
So OBVIOUSLY Natlan is going to bring the idea of war into scrutiny.

    • @Avis0123
      @Avis0123 Před 9 dny +14

Exactly! And it would be so boring if all regions were just direct reflections of their archon's ideology.
I mean, look at Mondstadt, there were even memes about it. It's the nation of freedom, but it's the only nation in which the main city is closed off by walls.
Same with Sumeru, the land of dendro, you'd think most of it is rainforests, but really it's just the dessert (I mean alright, Sumeru is based off of some arabic countries and those are mostly dessert filled so it kind of makes sense, but still)

The example of the Hawaiian Islands alone is an indication that the most fertile and green lands on earth are gathered around volcanoes. The similarity between war and a volcano is that as long as the volcano does not erupt, there is abundance and abundance around it. When a volcano erupts, it brings destruction and death around, like war.
There is something that people who love this game are wrong about. They say the opposite of eternity is freedom, but the real opposite is war. Because while eternity is static, war is dynamic. War war destroys empires and the existing order and brings a new one. When you look at history, you see that the biggest changes took place after wars. If the civil war had not occurred, inazuma would have remained in eternal stasis.

The rainbow serpent could references both aurstalian myth AND Quetzalcoatl/Kukulkan from the Aztecs and Mayans at the same time. Bc Quetzalcoatl was also a colorful flying serpent. And also possibly a dragon. Quetzalcoatl’s world in Aztec mythology had Quetz become the SUN during one of the cycles of creation/destruction. And the sun is the source of all light and life on earth. That includes in aztec myth, where the current sun was in charge of personally creating the “humans” of each cycle. So they could be going with a “Nibelung created life, the primoridal one just co-opted it and then said it was his own creation” type story here.
Since Aztec culture was also cyclical, and Quetzalcoatl stopped being the sun after his cycle ended, it’s possible Nibelung also belongs to a similar cycle, being basically the dragon “Avatar” who has access to all the elements and respawns in another color when the current incarnation dies. Would Hoyo reference Avatar The Last Airbender? Yeah they would. They love references.

My theory for Natlan is that War has ended a long time ago and they're "continuing" it in form of... Sports. Healthy competition. So it is still a war in a way, but its just the Olympics (not the 1936 Olympics).
I say this mostly based on the character designs and their movement skill(?).
The hat on the rat looking geo girl, the beach tanned surfer hydro girl, the street wear of the Dendro guy... it all look like modern sports wear to me.
Maybe some character will try to restore the old ways of Natlan and bring back war and that will be the villain for this arc.

Natlan will 100% have something to do with the flower wars. Huitzilopochtli, the god who the wars were dedicated to, was literally the god of fire and war. He uses a serpent/dragon as a weapon, is closely associated with serpents, and war and sacrifices were given to him so that he could protect the world from being destroyed.
Interestingly, he does this to chase away his siblings, the stars, who want to destroy the world.

I’m quite surprised no one has brought up the Mare Jivari, both in the video and in the comments. The Mare Jivari is a region presumably located in Natlan that is completely covered in ash. A piece of land where the winds don’t reach. A patch of land completely covered in ash could very quickly resemble a colourless space no? What if the Mare Jivari became the Mare Jivari because there was once a 7th tribe in Natlan that completely lost their connection to their dragon/saurian thereby leaving their patch of land burnt, dead, colourless and devoid of wind? When I saw those patches of no colour in Sumeru, I immediately thought of the Mare Jivari, so hearing all this talk about colour immediately made me think of that, but hey. The fact that the entire theme of this summer event is basically toys REALLY make me think of a conversation I had some time ago about how they are going to subvert war.... and it was brought up that in Mesoamerica historically there are a lot of games like Patolli, Bul, and Totoloque and a strong emphasis on sports like Tlachtli.... perhaps games and athletics are the "ritual" or "substitute" war that is taking place? playing games instead of fighting a wars seems like a reasonable subversion of war....
from a literal standpoint ofc, there still needs to be an abstract point like you were pointing out in the vid like fighting to stay with their Saurian partners.
Because of this I looked again at the character designs and I feel like they're all vaguely sporty too, like the hydro girl surfing, the little one wearing a visor with a tied back ponytail and doing some sort of gymnastic flip into the lineup at the end, and both the little girl and the guy are wearing their outerwear shucked off and tucked at the waist like people do at pickup sports games.
I dunno, I just think it's an interesting thing to think about.
BTW Patolli on it's own is quite interesting because it is tied to an Aztec god of games Xōchipilli and involves numbers related to the Aztec view of the universe.

    • @aciesara5444
      @aciesara5444 Před 9 dny +4

I think so too. There are also anime that have this kind of theme such as No Game No Life, Dog Days, and Hikikomari (I'm not recommending them, just pointing out existing examples).
Every available region is influenced by the Archon ideal, so I'm interested in how "war" influences Natlan's people. After all, there's no way the region took "war" literally and still function properly and peacefully.
If it is indeed competition between factions, tribes, or people, then I really look forward to a possible mini-game that we can get in Natlan. Also Itto's event too, because it would be criminal not to have him visit a "game" country.

5:21 There is a questionable amount of direct ties to Australia within both trailers that it seems pretty much confirmed to be true. In the first trailer you have animals that seem all to visually symbolic to Kangaroo's/Marsupials, Wombats, Komodo Dragons/Platypus and the overall landscape itself with its red earth. In the second trailer the graffiti, especially the colours and design of the shark that one water girl rode, seemed directly inspired by Aboriginal paintings. There was also the giant trees that seemed oddly identical (Albeit giant) to eucalyptus trees when the dendro guy jumped/gilded through the trees.
Honestly I don't think there are any Australian content creators or a big enough voice to point out this stuff without being silince by the sheer number of voices, but hey might as well try.
P.S. There is also symbology tying the Four Horsemen in Genshin somewhat if you work backwards with Nahida as Death, Neuvillette as the third, and highly likely someone from the nation of war representing War. $100 dolleray do's on the Tsaritsa being the 'White horse' so to speak.

As an Australian, I have also seen some similarities and do reckon Natlan has taken a few inspirations from Aboriginal culture and Australian flora and fauna, but I'm still not stepping my foot into that side of the argument until we have more concrete evidence, even if I did speculate Australia having some potential inspiration ideas for Natlan. Things can go either way as we did expect Fontaine to be based off of France, but we also go UK themes (Wriothesley being the obvious example) and even a sprinkle of Italy being the main theme of Remuria.

I think Genshin's Nation of War will be like metaphors of Volcano and Ashes.
Wars will always destroy a lot of things, but in the end the ashes does give chance of a "restart" or perhaps "rebirth". Just as ashes nourish the plants after an eruption.
It's a deep theme to get into.
In parallel example, it could be like how the World Wars we had reformed many orders and societies in the world, even though there are still hurting nations or societies from that war, it does give us a glimpse of peace to work towards betterment. It's a deep and nuanced topic but I also can't agree if war is always something bad, it is always attached to the relevant topic of the time, and its a term that shouldn't be used in isolation seriously.

New Zealand is the one in the Ring of Fire, not Australia 😅 Which is why I've been pretty amused when people have been "why isn't Natlan grim?" New Zealand is one of the prettiest, greenest places in the world and there's volcanoes EVERYWHERE. Our biggest city has something like over 100 dormant volcanoes in it. Our bush is pretty jungle like but we don't have red desert areas. Now that's Australia right there. That said, the Tongariro National Park in New Zealand is such a weird looking place. It's where the main big volcanoes are in the centre of the island and it's beautiful. The big volcanoes are still active from time to time. Volcanic does not equal Elden Rings grim.
Rant aside, I did note the didgeridoo and thought of Australia too. Some of the graffiti felt a bit like Aboriginal art. So I'm interested to see what Hoyoverse interprets of this area of the world...although the fact that they got New Zealand and Australia mixed up is funny. I didn't think they knew we existed because there's no server for Australia and there really should be, my ping is awful, we don't get merch and there's never any "global" events down this far south 😭 At least Australia gets a nod for Natlan. It'd be nice to see some New Zealand rep but I think most people in the Northern hemisphere think New Zealand and Australia are the same country 😅

Ashikai, I think that you’re onto something with the Australian references. As an Australian myself and having knowledge on this topic, I know that colours within aboriginal Australian history are directly linked with ‘heritage’ or a link to the land of some sort, and just as you had said, there could be links of Saurians as said heritage. Within the history of Australia as well, there was a form of ‘war’ with the aboriginals and the English people that had landed on Australia. War of two different ‘tribes’, where in the end, the aboriginals were oppressed and stolen from their families. Now I could go on a tangent, but aboriginal Australians used a ton of colour symbolism in the Dreamtime stories - such as the rainbow snake, for example. And even colours are like the connection of the world to aboriginals. I’m not aboriginal myself, so I don’t have much to really add, but these Australian references could tie into your speculation of Natlan. And when the patch releases, these speculations could have more substance.
Aside from my rambling, I loved the video, and I hope that you’re doing a wonderful day!!

What occupies me, is reason of why Ntlanians are so unenthusiastic about leaving their plains, and if, this have any connection with Natlan soils. According to Aztec creation myth, land was created out of Alligator-like creature (read as dragon) Cipactli via hands of Quetzalcoatl and Tezcalipoca(gods). To be fair, this is a common theme in many creations myths, but in regards of Natlan and its dragon connection, it might be actually relevant. Plus, not like we never had a land being made out of ancient remains before (Watatsumi).Locals of 5.0, might be physically or psychologically tied with their land, , or alike Azhdaha, absorbing energy from thous "dragon fossils". Thus unable or simple don't wanting to leave. This could also have a gameplay effect, similar to Fontain Arke system.Maybe new characters Saurian related power would be available only there.
And on the subject of Fountain, Egiria might have been not the only one who attempted to create a human -like form. What if current Tribes are descendants of human-dragon marriage. I also wonder, if Natlanians half dragon origin could be a reason for their Saurians ties and non vision elemental powers.

As someone from Australia, the Wagyl/Waakle (Rainbow serpent) in culture is a sacred first nations people deity and is different based on which mob you belong. Rainbow serpent has the role of giver of life, and in the dreaming it provides fertility spirits through the waters, but its more than that. The dreamtime shaped the physical, moral and spiritual world and continues to renew and sustain itself, the wagyl created the shape of the boodjar (land) and foundation for the meaning of life, giving sustinence so humans can in turn become stewards for the land, but it destructively brutal to those who break the laws. As such each mob has totems making each responsible for that animal. It is the ultimate universal creator, it's movement shaping the land. This isn't mythology, the dreaming is an active belief system in first nations culture.
Side note. The animals losing their color is a big one in the dreaming too. How the birds got their color is a big Koori dreaming story, I remember hearing from one of the elders that ravens are black because they were selfish when the color rained on the birds

I remember very vividly that there is a rainbow serpent tale in Colombia/Northern Brazil/Guianas which his skin was used to give colors to all the birds (except the diving one that only got black scales).
I recall very little of it, but there was a rainbow serpent in a river, the only anomaly was it had a black head. The humans and birds teamed up to kill the beast because he was a tyrant, and after the killing shot (being dealt by a diving bird) they divided the scales among the birds, and that's why they are colorful, except the diving bird, which only got to have the black scales in the head of the Serpent.
    Edit: added the legend.

Have you heard of the story of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl? It's an Aztec version of Romeo and Juliet, where Popo went off to win Izta's hand via battle, a jealous guy told Izta that Popo died, she pulled a Padmé and died of sadness (becoming the dormant volcano Iztaccíhuatl), and Popo returned (then turned into the semi-active volcano Popocatépetl in one of various ways). Nahuatl is the dominant dialect of Aztec that survives today, and it's where the "tl" in "Natlan" comes from. I have a theory that at least the Dendro and Hydro characters in the trailer are nods to Popo and Izta, like Nilou is for Nabu Malikata and Cyno is for Deshret/Hermanubis. "Popocatépetl" means "burning or smoking mountain," and "Iztaccíhuatl" means "white woman." The Geo character might be a distant reference to the jealous person who "drilled a hole" or "drove a wedge" in the real-world Aztec legend.
I only spent a brief time in Mexico and this is one of the top stories I learned about Aztec culture. Besides that their capitol city was built on top of a lake for eagle-eating-a-snake reasons, resulting -- here's the important part -- in the capital being surrounded with floating flower gardens (Izta looks like Nilou?). The Nahuatl people are one of (if not the) largest surviving Native American population today because they conquered the people around them empire-style (with blood sacrifices added), and when the Spaniards showed up, they saw who was gonna win and said "Sweet! We're gonna team up with you guys." Disease then did its own thing on their numbers, but it's interesting history.
Well, that's enough of a ramble. Just trying to put in a hint that these stories may be very worth looking into. 😁 Tenochtitlan and the Temples of the Sun and Moon in the Aztec empire might also come up. It's cool stuff I wanna learn more about, and I can totally see Genshin using it. 😜
Have fun and keep being awesome!

    • @erikastauffer8021
      @erikastauffer8021 Před 9 dny +5

To learn to make the "tl" sound:
      1) Pinch the tip of your tongue between your front teeth, so that you can't move it.
      2) Make a "t" sound. Because you can't move the front of your tongue, the sound should come from the sides and back of your tongue hitting your teeth, where the "l" sound usually happens. It almost sounds like a "k." But it is a "t" with the "l" parts of your tongue.
      3) Once you have that muscle movement down, stop biting the tip of your tongue. That was just a teaching technique. Make the "tl" sound with the sides at the back of your tongue normally.
😁👌 Languages are fun! Everything else in modern Nahuatl is basically the same as Mexican Spanish. The "tl" sound is the only one unique enough to truly stick around.

The FIRE DIAMOD that spins around and shoots out lights that are all the colours of THE RAINBOW... Ooh the mist spirits that live far off in the mountains and guide you to fairyland if you can find them..." (the next part isn't in the travel log bc its a dialogue when you're traveling to the next destination) "a lot of them have bad endings though. Like the fire diamond will get put into a rich persons gallery, where it will never be ignited again. Or someone will see the mist spirit and not manage to capture it but because the anger it, it'll never show itself again." (the next part was interesting given your previous videos) "the hero who SLAYS the dragon BECOMES the NEXT dragon" and given that alot of teyvat's fairy tales have some root in its history i think its very interesting in context to natlan and dragons. "the sacred sword that once fought darkness becomes a doomsday weapon" this also reminded me of narsissenkrauz, travellor and sibling, and the battle pass story. ANYWAYS i just thought it was fun Im not sure if this has been discussed before lol

10:31 So the Traveler might not have the tattoos like Xiao or Azdaha, but our outfits do change color with the elements that we absorb from the Statue of Seven. I remember something about how the travelers moveset resembles Neuvillettes, and he’s the hydro dragon. Does that mean that our outfit glows when we use raw elemental power rather than a vision?
Edit: ALSO!! In the intro cutscene where we pick which traveler to play as, our outfit glows white, which might be a reference to how Nibelung acts as a prism turning white light into all the seven colors. I don’t know how exactly it fits into the theory but I thought it was interesting to note!

There are many different takes on the outcome and intent, some stories suggest that swallowing the children were incidental, while others suggest it was intentional because the rainbow serpent was hungry. I don't have much say on the topic but all I know is that it is perfect for some messed up Genshin lore :)

The dragon in the trailer also looks like Ursa the Drake from the manga. You know, the one Venessa and her tribe had to fight to gain freedom? And Venessa is from Natlan. So for a dragon that looks like one a descendant of Natlan/Murata fought 1000 years ago to appear in an event that foreshadows Natlan… yk.

we still have half of mt Esus left to explore tho
there might also be another sunk part of the continental plateau, like remuria, but that's not very plausible

Hoping we get a Benny boy video, his character story seems important for natlan not to mention his vision story which was kinda sus and gave me phoenix vibes

    to point out a
kinda obvious connection the relationship of nathlan and light: pyro= fire= source of light. i dont't have anything deeper to say other than that correlation.

great video as always ashikai!! speaking of the summer event foreshadowing… what if it happens because nicole is a visionary and knows what will happen? what if she’s trying to ‘prepare the traveler’ for the events of the archon quests? the summer areas always seem to have some connection to the hexenzirkel, and they’re also often the reason we get there in the first place.

I wonder if the glowing markings mean they are somehow immune to changes made by Irminsul. If they're somehow connected to the leylines directly. Zhongli and Venti are the only two of the "original 7" left and always seem to hint at knowing more about what's going on than they let on. They likely have a deeper connection to Teyvat that was established long before everything went down.

I've always been excited to see inspirations of the Aboriginal Dreaming in the game, which at first would appear in Khanrei'ah (because it's the land down under)
This has been in my head since we learn of the 3 moon sisters, which is alarmingly similar to the Dreaming myth of the Three Sisters
