Hello guys,
Ahh one of the best stories and one of the most intense racing games ever made in my opinion, NFS The Run.. Came out in 2011 as a last game made by Black Box studio, The Run didn't get enough credit as I think it would be now. The Run for me is great game, not only as NFS games, but in general.. With his unique style and somehow hard handling its last masterpiece made by legendary studio.. This video is my homage to masterpiece that is NFS The Run.. Hope you like it.

Is a real shame that this game took nearly a whole decade to finally be appreciated.
This has been a trend for all post 2010 NFS entries
@@yusufffff I know. And I hate it.
@@Otherface It will be the same for Unbound and the other NFS from 2020s NFS in 2030s. Just watch.
Fr so underrated
@@HeroManNick132 true.
The Run is so underrated that many people dont even know it existed
Wii version be like:
I actually don't get why people hate the physics and handling in this game..
I loved this game, I've finished it 3 times. The atmosphere, the backgrounds and places, the cars, the story, all was fantastic. It was an incredible interactive movie for me.
🍀
Každej ať si to přeloží,od toho jsou THE SCHOOL💵
Thank's ⭐
Don't forget that it's the first second NFS game to use real-world locations.
Can't believe this game is 12 years old! How time flies so fast!
Fans never appreciated Black Box's last NFS game, this one is truly a gem and everybody thought of it as a "lame action movie". When it actually had a decent story (and a bit more ambitious than the ones before at the time), and in my opinion, one of the most fun to watch or play.
Truly, an underrated gem of a game.
(Only bad thing is the PC port as most cases, but aside from that, a really good game).
I can confirm that the PC port was a buggy, barely-playable mess. >.>
Personally, I didn't like the game 'cause of it's unpolished gameplay and some annoying bugs and glitches, but the story was the one thing I actually liked, so I don't really get people who bashed it. :/
Honestly, I think the game could've been great if it was more polished and didn't have a lot of features from previous games completely removed - while costing the same as them. :/
@@nijunikuro The PC port is better optimized than the console port. At least you can install a patch to play it in 60 fps, while on consoles you are stuck with 30 fps.
The only good thing about the console version is the DLC content that is not available to PC like the OG NFS HP 2010. But that changed when ''Remastered'' version came out.
the "another race" that the women mentioned at the final escene of the game, continues in the nfs rivals? or just has been forgotten? sorry my english, i m argentinian jajaj
@@tomascallenius2422 Sam Harper you mean or her voice actress Christina Hedricks?
I appreciate and I respect their work
I wanna play the game again just for the snow stage alone
And the desert❤
Also Chicago at night was beautiful!
Yup, Desert, Chicago, Las Vegas and this, the Snow part which is TOP tier on my list of NFSTR stages
The NYC final race was the stuff of legends for me especially in the docks final stage.
Ive always thought an expanded sequel to this games idea would be really cool. Maybe with todays hardware it could be one large persistent race. Maybe even have it as an almost rogue-lite. Where in the starter car you arent expected to do well but the higher you finish the more money you get etc until eventually you are in the top cars that can get first
Michael Bay had to do with the development of NFS the Run so yeah, it is kind of an interactive movie and it is as dramatic as a movie only him could direct
This game definitely needs a remaster
It’s unbelievable great alongside its awesome driving mechanics
The only downside that its not that long
I completed it on hard and very hard and unlocked every car by playing online
Hard? Have you played extreme?
@@HeroManNick132 thats what I meant by very hard, I just forgot what they named it
Yes the one above hard that you have to complete hard to unlock it
Are there any long need for speed games? They all get criticised for having short stories
@@defnotatroll most wanted 1 is the longest I have ever played
@@Ramstein83 You don't have to complete Hard difficulty to unlock Extreme difficulty, you just need to finish the story mode on any difficulty - even completing an Easy run unlocks it. :/
Soundtrack was 10/10
I love how aggressive the cars sound in this game, you can feel the power they carry even if their not a top tier car
Lol to me the car sounds didn't feel that aggressive except few. The Mazda RX-7 sound is just funny.
Who knew that the physics engine from a first person shooter would go really well with this game
Unreal engine was started out as FPS engine for Unreal Tournament series before it got fully adapted to many genres.
@@channe3049 I just never felt like I was driving through an actual city and then some until I played this game; scripted or not
@@channe3049 it's on frostbite
Man nfs the run is my favorite there are no other nfs games like this one
this game has a beautiful environment though
Almost every race felt intense in this game.❤
Damn man. This NFS is art. F*cking EA, put this game in Game Pass
I just want to thank TheBoss Gaming for shedding some light onto NFS the run. It deserved so much more praise.
What I love about this game is the level of the rawness of those cars. I mean, I'm not a car expert, I only like NFS, but man those cars sound really aggressive and I love it. Another thing is how badass Jack is. He's not the most badass main character in the series (well not anymore because we got Zephyr in Rivals) but man he went through a lot of stuff. I'd even say more than MostWanted/Carbon's main character. And lastly I absolutely love the fact that they brought back the canyon duel and highway battle in the form of the avalanche duel and desert duel. I just wish that the game was longer. Like at least 3 or 5 more hours. But yeah, overall I loved it even back then. Gameplay is super tight, which sometimes I wish it wasn't THAT tight, but still a pretty enjoyable game
Best nfs game. Period.
It's really a shame The Run didn't get enough credit when it was released. I really want to play it back then and despite is short, it is a unique experience. Also, too bad it is Black Box's last work and a Remaster/Remake or a 2nd installment would be complicated at this day due to license issues (i believe).
The issue of the underappreciation is because of the NFS UG1-2/MW2005 nostalgists and the NFS HP 2010 players.
It's funny how NFS HP 2010 had better sales despite people complained how every NFS after NFS MW 2012 is with brake to drift handling and not NFS TR with the last grip handling (not counting Heat and NFS Unbound).
What special about this game is the color palette, the gameplay, the mechanic... It feels like a cinematic experience. And timeless, it's still looks good to this day!
I absolutely loved this game back when it was released and couldn't understand why it got a low rating and disliked by most people. Still one of the best NFS for me alongside Most Wanted and Undercover.
Reason it was underrated because at the time of launch game suffered many problem. Of lag . Slutter , crash issues even with highest specs machine no one able to get 60 fps ..
@@maskedaffairs7216 Nah, the main reason is people even to this day are salty that haven't seen NFS UG/MW remastered or NFS UG3/MW2.
@@HeroManNick132 yeah bro now graphics are good but games dont have that feeling on those days 🤭
@@maskedaffairs7216 NFS before Underground era:
best NFS
damn.. this is how a racing game should be, full of different events, not just collecting checkpoints
Been my favorite NFS ever since it came out, you just can't get this atmosphere in any other racing game.
This Iconic game is the reason I used to recreate the drive from San Francisco to New York on "The Crew"
This is one my most favourite NFS till date . I have completed this gameplay 5-6 times till date and i always reinstall it just to feel the sheer excitement. It really make you sit on the edge of the chair till you complete the race.
I remember when this game came out. I couldn't buy it so I had to wait for so long until it was removed from stores. I downloaded a cracked version to see what it was about, but when i finished it, it was the best car game I played in my life. Truly a work of art the fact that they made it feel difficult and dangerous with those environments and physics also the story was cool, graphically it was unfinished but still perfect. It was like playing a movie. We need more games like this pls EA, we know you can do it for the love of the NFS franchise
Dear God the sence of speed in this game, the imersion is so high I remember being desperate whenever I lost control and tried to activelly slow down on jumps cuz being off the ground at 130mph here is absolute terrifying
What a great showcase of gameplay, I've always loved this game and I'm glad to see people finally appreciating it!
Best NFS
The first game I bought on ps3
It has a special place in my heart
The music The action is just unique and beautiful
Idk why people dislike this. Literally one of the best nfs after the ps2 era games. Aways new tracks and new landscape, and story good too. Hp was also cool.
wish this game were remade as a movie, wonder how cool it is.
The 2014 Movie was kinda based of NFS The Run but yeah, there should be a second movie.
@@HeroManNick132 i don't think 2014 NFS movie is kinda related to it. Tobey don't have serious money problems.
@@KanzakiZD But the final race was similar to the NFS HP 2010/The Run one.
Also still do this day the story was really rushed and it didn't explain how Jack got into so big money trouble which I still question to this day. I mean it's obviously that he had debt with Marcus but the other guy in the 1st scene wasn't even mention.
I mean NFS The Run had interesting story but so many plotholes that don't explain everything.
@@KanzakiZD um, yeah, Tobey did have serious money problems in the movie. The whole reason he took the job from Dino that started that crazy journey taken was because his shop was struggling financially and going under, and him and his crew were on the brink of unemployment
@@HeroManNick132 That was Marcus Blackwell. His primary objective was to knockout Jack from the race *permanently* . The race was his second objective. Also, Jack needs to pay at least 20milion to the mob to repay his debt.
We need a linear, non-open world need for speed again. Also, hard to believe this launched for the Xbox 360 😅.
Unfortunatelly because of the NFS Underground fans we might not see another non-open world NFS.
Sequel to this game would be cool.. who knows maybe one day..
@HeroManNick132 who knows. Right now there are a lot of people now asking for a non-open world racing game.
But of course. It will also be hated.
@@Otherface Tbh the fanbase is basically split on 2 types:
- The people that want NFS similar to the classic ones like before NFS UG1 with like NFS HP 2010/Remastered/Rivals style
- The people that want NFS similar to NFS UG1-2/MW/Carbon.
So it's basically impossible to make everyone happy.
A game where you can't drive in the open world 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢. Leave that in the early 2000s
Well, I'd rather late then never for this games appreciation. Coming home to play this game always was the best feeling
What I love about this game is how hard it would make you push even when you were trying your hardest and the sheer intensity and stress of time trials and being chased by the mob almost created an adrenaline feeling as a kid, we need a remaster
I remember getting this game for Christmas (prob a month after release) but I was so intrigued by the cinematics that I didn't realize I beat the game in like 4 hours.
one of my favorite nfs game to date, along with mw, underground 2 and carbon, played a lil bit of most wanted 2012 but man nfs the run was such a fresh breathe of air
I remember playing this scene for the first time I was blown away 😱
This game was way ahead of its time
This game has some of the best car sounds. The movie approach was respectable! Hope we can get great automotive games again.
I would say the turbo sounds are amazing but sadly they are so quiet and you can't hear them unless if you rev it from stand still. The sound mixing however is terrible (sorry to say it but it is true). Check out the Mazda RX-7 sound for example and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Also the sounds for some reason with 60 fps no V-Sync break entirely. And if you port the same sound files from NFS TR to NFS Pro Street you'll see a huge difference.
I can’t help but think that at the end of this game where Jack was given the option to race again, it set up the story of the movie Need For Speed that came out 3 years later where they raced the opposite direction across the country
Last real NFS... RIP Black Box
It's ironic how this game was so hated back then but now we say of how underrated it is.
And let's don't forget how despite this game had some customization (on stock cars only) got outsold by a game that didn't have that.
But yeah R.I.P. Black Box 2002 - 2013.
@@HeroManNick132 but nfs hp is fun
NFS the Run, NFS HP 2010, NFS MW 2012, and NFS 2015 were the peak of NFS with good graphics.
NFS Rivals: Am I joke to you? The car models are super detailed for that time.
i’ve actually considered driving the route in the game someone uploaded the route used in nfs the run and it goes across some of Americas most beautiful places
Someone needs to Film the whole route in real life
From start to end, NFS The Run personally carries the most superlative storyline and graphics to me. Its physics and development are done in such a manner, it will stick with you for a lifetime. An underrated Masterpiece that needs more new series and definitely more appreciation.
I loved this game when it came out. Total hidden gem! I remember me and my friends taking turns playing it on a camping trip in their camper the week I got it. Good memories 😊
I actually have an obsession with this game. I wonder if they’ll make a Frosty Editor profile for it.
Probably will never happen, it's been years too late before they could materialized such a thing, I could be wrong, though if they manage it.
My favourite NFS
EVER. Period. There is no experience like this. This one and the game called Pure are my all time favourite racing games ever. Shame they took this game out of shop. I would buy it right fkicng now.
A masterpiece defined by how many time you reinstalled it for a playthrough every year. I've been doing that since the game released.
ultrawide, no hud, yeah, thats it!!
Ive been playing this game for 9 years, every month I complete the campaign atleast for once , 20 years old now, this game literally developed my personality, my aesthetic, artistic sense, got me into photography and videography, like big thanks to EA. But there are things that i still dont like about is, low quality stage previews, fps cap in menu, and main menu background video, and low fps cutscenes, its so annoying, kills the whole experience for a while, like playing the game in 150 fps then suddenly it lags, but story, swag, adrenaline, this game served that.
I miss playing the multiplayer. I remember spending hours on there; the community was so fun to be a part of. And of course, this is where my love of the 76’ Golf GTI came from. God bless the NFS edition GTI.
Speedhunters is better.
I absolutely loved this NFS for its story telling and everyone was hating on it. Still don't understand why. It even looked great back then, actually even today.
It's because of people were salty at Black Box that didn't release NFS UG3 and NFS MW2. That is the reason why.
Physics are dogshit.
@@ralphlorenzperolino3054 NFS 2015: *cough, cough*
The Run is a very cinematic game.
It is both its biggest strength and weakness.
I played two seconds of this game and went right back to game stop
I know you are joking
Yeah I didn't get past the first mission.
@@doordonotthereisnotry6796 Lol, you must have been bad at this game 🤣
Gotta appreciate the sound design in this that can make it so intense and cinematic
Played the hell out of this game, back in the 360 days, along with the first Horizon, its a shame we dont have this much of racing games now
RIP EA Black Box
Really loved this game as a kid. Still do. It's one of a kind really
I still have my PS3 and this NFS and I remember very well racing my heart out on online mode ... Awsome game: check!
Все нахваливают MW 2005, но он был очень душный, особенно под конец, когда нужно было огромное количество очков набрать против полиции и это очень сильно надоедало, а этот NFS он как кино на выходных, расслабляет
This game is sickkkk!!! And it needs a part 2 or a remaster. And EA ,,if something ain't broken,,dont change it !!!!
I always loved the premise of the story in this game, the big race across the country against I don’t remember how many hundreds of other racers, probably my second favorite premise, just behind taking down Blacklist members and getting their pink slips from them… always thought it was a shame the movie wasn’t an adaptation of The Run
Very cool video theboss gaming
Thank you 😁
I remember playing this at my older cousin's place on the ps3.... freaking loved it and came everyday to push my progress. Sadly I didn't get to finish it and only got to like top 30 I think.....ah good times
Both NFS The Run and Ace Combat Assault Horizon where hated for being a Cinematic Experience, but nobody cares today. These games have an especial room for me as an unique experience to live.
The run nd prostreet are the best nfs ever made …
I remember when i got into the Colorado state omg i fell in love!!!! to this date that's my fav mission of any nfs game! there was just something special about that ending where you see the avalanche heading down on you and you just full send the nos xD
Greatest roster of cars in NFS history, especially with all the bonus and dlc cars. Most underrated NFS in history
Loved this game for what it represented to me
The closest thing to a Cruisn USA remake
Let's be honest - The Run had some good ideas, but *terrible* execution.
I always found the default controls on PC to be weird - and if you change them the game will sometimes decide to just randomly revert them to default ones when you start the game. :O
Half the in-game cars are unobtainable nowdays (except with hacking?), as unlocking them required playing (ranked) multiplayer - and the official servers went offline years ago! This one may not have been as egregious when it came out (like Carbon's "win a ranked multiplayer race against an EA mod to unlock this car"), but nowdays it's just annoying.
Getting off the predefined track/route - and sometimes just going *slightly* off the road will sometimes cost you a reset, while other times you'll just be put back on the road. There's 0 consistency with it! Oh, people *shooting at you* during the illegal race is perfectly fine, but trying to cut the track without the devs' express permission (using marked shortcuts)? How dare you, you *monster* !
In few places, I got respawned after touching the wall next to the road, as the game SOMEHOW thought I went off the track. >:(
In some places, when you get off the road (but not far enough to trigger a reset) you can drive right through some of the solid objects (I remember driving right through parked cars near the road after being knocked off the track by a police car).
Gas station exits are sometimes marked as part of the road, while other times they're marked as shortcuts. It was *really* annoying when I lost my 1st run against 3 rivals I passed 'cause I wanted to take a shortcut and ended up automatically parking at a gas station, which allowed *all 3* rivals to pass me - near the finish line! -_-
Arrow-walls (pointing which way to turn) are not solid (unlike the previous games), so messing up while cornering will make you go right through them and cost you a reset.
Often, opening any challenge series then trying to go to the previous menu will make all controls apart from the d-pad completely unresponsive, basically soft-locking the game.
If you finish a challenge event, then choose "Continue", you'll encounter the previous solf-lock. If you choose "Back to Menu" and then choose "Quit Game", the button won't do anything, making it impossible to close the game (the way it's intended).
Color choices when selecting a car are laughable. Many cars have only 1 available color, and some have basically the same colors repeated twice (only with slightly different stripes and decals). Hell, "Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit" on PC allowed you to choose a custom car color back in 1998, so why can't we do so in a 2011 game? :/
No car modification nor tuning. PC version of "Need for Speed: High Stakes" had car upgrades and tuning back in 1999! So why are none of those in a game from 2011?
You can't change the sound volume in the Audio settings! Just... why!?
...and that's just the stuff I can remember at the top of my head! *If* those issues (and probably several others) didn't exist, the game might've been remembered as a masterpiece, but the clear lack of polish made it "just another racing game" - and its competitors offered a lot more content for the same price.
I'm also kinda disappointed that you didn't show the desert battle segment, where a dust cloud would obscure your vision for few seconds, showing your opponent on the road after it clears up. I really liked that bit, but noone seems to talk about it - everyone seems to just fawn over the avalanche segment. I mean, it's cool and all - but there were other awesome bits in the game, too! :(
Some of these things that you said is not true.
You have multiple color options only on STOCK versions of each car (except Audi RS4 but that car doesn't even have body kit options so makes sense). The NFS Editions and Signature Edtions have only 1 color by default, except for Cesar De Leone's El Camino (because he had twin brothers and that's why we have 3 color options). I mean compared to NFS HP 2010 adding bodykits was more customization than just color options there (even though in the Remastered they added wrap editor and color pallete which the original didn't have). At least NFS The Run let you choose a body kit (even though it was just for styling and didn't improve your performance at all).
About the locked cars - there are many unlockers online that you can download which unlock all the available PC cars without doing the tasks that Black Box wanted to do.
Also there is a glitch that if crash or you press reset right at the finish line when you are exactly about just tiny bit when you are about to cross the time bugs out (skips miliseconds), the AI becomes pathetically slow and the fires from the finish line disapear. But on the good side is you can free roam (pretty much everywhere without the annoying ''wrong way'' warning, that you need to be as slow as turtle to bypass it in order to ''free roam''.) However still you are restricted if there are arrows somewhere but not always) will reset you and the pause button doesn't word and to close the game you have to press the start button (to go not in full screen mode) to close the game if you do this glitch.
On some tracks you can go a bit offroad without reseting you (so kinda depends where Black Box put the trigger).
And btw if you do this glitch on ''Street Legal'' challenge at the place where you go with the police car (you can see beta version of that). Black Box wanted to make the start of the race from there but later they changed their mind. And if you go further of that road, the hud will disappear (because it activates the trigger from story mode) and the game of a sudden will crash.
And NFS The Run is not made for free roam because many of the roads are incompleted dead ends that are not solid and you can fall through the map endlessly basically like the same thing to being able to pause the game and exit by going not in full screen mode.
There is a free roam mode which allows you to go anywhere but as I said most of the maps are not intended for a free roam. And if you exit this the normal game starts.
@@HeroManNick132 I guess I just happened to choose cars with limited colors every time I chose a car in Challenge Mode, 'cause I remember seeing only 2 cars with decent color options. :S I do remember 1-color cars being marked as NFS Edition, now that you mention it. However, I also remember 1 car with 6 color options with 2 whites (1 was plain white, while other had stripes and a racing number) and 2 blacks (1 with orange and 1 with white stripe). >.>
I somehow completely missed Body Kits when I played the game. :( I also only got the game recently and played it for the 1st time shortly after I finished career runs in 2005 Most Wanted and Carbon, then played Prostreet and Porsche Unleashed after The Run. Compared to customization options in those old games The Run seemed kinda laughable. :/
Another thing that annoyed me that I forgot to mention was the fact that the only available 3rd-person view had the camera too low and too close to the car, so the back of your car would usually take most of the screen - unlike old games where (one of) the 3rd-person camera(s) would be much higher and further away from the car, giving you a much better view of your surroundings.
I was not aware of the free roam bug - all of the things I mentioned in my original comment were things I personally encountered during my playthrough - so thank you for sharing, that's definitely an interesting one. I'm not surprised there are unlockers available for the game, tho it's kinda disappointing that you have to hack the game to unlock half the cars nowdays. :/ Still, as I said, it was leagues better than some of Carbon's unlock requirements before they shut down the servers.
The worst part of this game is the lack of a custom race mode where you setup your own custom races with any rules, cars, and tracks that you like against the AI drivers.
This was really good. I remember buying the disc for pc version. Good days.
This is one of my favourite nfs games. Also, could you make a Need for Speed Unbound walkthrough Boss Gaming?
My first game when i entered team playstation
I received it with my Ps3 and i keep good memories playing this masterpiece
My favorite NFS game
Which mods were used in this... looks incredible
Nfs the run is like hitman absolution, most fans don't like it because it didn't follow the title formula but when you really look at it, both games are really good
It didn't follow the NFS UG 1-2/MW 2005 criteria to be exact*
Glad this wasn't another obnoxious video essay and actually let the game do the talking
This was also the third NFS that you feel scared when you drive at full speed specially on the Nevada stages
This is actually my favourite NFS game
This game is still as beautiful as I remember it
I glad I own this game and download it every 5-6 months and play it, doing it since the game came out.
a remake of the run would be so cool. an actual faithful remake, without the bugs and the crashes, no fps cap, etc
The whole Game is just soo amazing for what it is and the OST is perfect for the game. I love it so much.
The soundtrack of the game is so underrated
Fun fact, the games, composer, Mick Gordon did the soundtrack for this game and this guy would also do the soundtrack for modern doom games
First time playimg this with an Xbox 360 no regrets, one of the best NFS ever since MW and Carbon ...
This game was something else when this came out i bought a new card just for this game man the cut scenes the cars the races it was so awesome.❤❤❤❤❤ This will always be my favourite
Pov: You made a game’s camera have better choreography than some blockbuster movies’ car chase scenes
nfs the run, and NFS hot pursuit 2010, just a work of art, too bad EA killed the licence
When NFS HP 2010 gets a ''Remastered version"' but not NFS The Run:
@@HeroManNick132 i don't even think HP was a remastered...it was the same other than some texture "improvements "
@@VaryprshotOfficial Well, it had a console DLC port and some new features like color pallete, wrap editor, new garage background, crossplay and that's it. They slightly adjusted the car volume when it the original it was a bit quiet and used the console sound for the Zonda which was miles better than the original sound.
The graphics are just somehow also worse than the original even though the original used to be 8GB and now this is 45GB like what?
Still sucks how there is no manual transmission to this day. Like seriously? Manual transmission would have improve a lot of the times because the automatic transmission is just annoying how it downshifts when it's not needed. And also the automatic transmission upshifts in these cars which have extra gear which is just useless and you can still reach the top speed on that gear without upshifting into overdrive. It's so annoying.
And the manual transmission would be even nice for the free roam where you can cruise at low RPM but of course neither Criterion or Lucid games were brave to add one which is just funny. Despite Criterion added it for the first time ever in NFS Unbound.
This and underground series are the best for me.
1:46 This part is just epic
A pity that this Black box Need was so undervalued... I liked it
If i replay this game, it'll specifically be because of this race(the snow passage)
The Run was easily my favourite in the series. While I had enjoyed other entries, The Run felt like an incredible experience, with one of the more unique concepts in the series. And lack of freeroam wasn't bad when every segment of the race still felt great fun to play through and made use of all sorts of environments.
Technically you can free roam with mods or some glitches but the problem is the game is not designed to be free roamed. Most of the roads are dead ends like NFS UG1 and unlike this NFS you can also fall out of the world because some of the roads are not solid (especially in Chicago).
And there is also a part if you play on Street Legal race on Windy city Challenge at the part when you are driving the cop car and before the hud disappears the game also crashes if you go further.
I love this video, i dont even need to adjust the screen resolution in my phone, those graphics, its just beautiful, its a shame that this game didnt had the reception that it needed when the game came out.
Baffles me the entire time the movie didn't based of this game and only took some inspiration like GUYS??? IT'S A WHOLE MOVIE????
