Works from 4am to 6pm. That's what you call passion.
Junkie used to make some amazing progressive and trance tunes back in the days. Obsession with Tiesto is a masterpiece
Nice to see Armin, who has seen every part of the world and lots of studios, so impressed by the gear and so interested in what and how Tom works. Both guys show respect to each other. This was not fake, but the relaxed Dutch way.
And yes... Real men do sweat when they are enjoying things! :-)
Two Dutch legends together....amazing video!!!!! Love Armin
So, now I understand where Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL found each other. Just about the same volume of Synthesizers. :)
Armin has made one of the most iconic tracks in electronic music, Blue Fear. Wicked
Armin looked like a child in the playground. I'm not surprised. Every one of us would feel in Tom's studio like in the playground.
This video surprised me, two of my favorite musicians in one room. I appreciate his CZcams efforts
Exactly
Great conversation. Very chill. Thanks for this!
Ah, good old Two Tribes. They were fun parties.
you can even contact people from "LOST" with all those knobs
man oh man if they do a score together..
we know right? :)
A: Do you have an engineer to help you out ?
T: I do everything myself.
Respect!
Armin be like 'woah'
That was intense and sweaty!
two legends
lol I thought your profile pic was a hair on my screen for at least 10 seconds
the language is so cool love it i wanna learn dutch .. studio is awesome of course
Please do a collab together! Best of both worlds!
all that beautiful gear and he smokes in the studio, AAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHH
smoking in the studio is obligatory if youre a man
the minute you start treating your gear nice you lose your creativity
It's only since like 10 years ago that people quit smoking in studios.
When a tech opened up my kurzweil i had enough tabacco for a week.
Tom is such an inspiration!! To transition from Electronic music to film scoring with such success and then being a gear junkie!! Hoping to follow in his footsteps
The DNB composer PHOTEK did the same thing. Just not as well known.
"Hey honey, you know what? Fucking ARMIN VAN BUUREN says good luck with the pregnancy"
- Said no one ever except JunkieXL
As an Afrikaans speaking person I loved the raw Dutch dialog
Now i want to hear Armin Van buuren Score a movie :-)
Im in love with Junkie music from '90
but till now i didnt know that JXL is Dutch :D
Wow, great talk, great mood, i wish more famous people could speak like this - easily and fluently. And this passion for music.
Killer talk! Thanks!
Really cool as an American to hear this episode in your native language.
Before clicking this video I was expecting a Dutch interview. I was not disappointed. :D
+1 Agreed, I did too! ;) (was actually checking if years of living in the states would have altered his accent (like for example with Jan-Harm Pol or Jan de Bont), but no)
impressed by your schedule. at first sight your life looks like a dream for a composer, but it's actually a lot of work.
Why a lot of work can't be a dream? If you love it, it's not really work :)
@@AlexeyFilippenkoPlummet Its stressful as hell, most of these guys suffer from mental problems. Its not glamorous as people think, 90% of the times you compose what the director of the movie wants not what you think it's best
Awesome career, glad to see your passion drives you in search for bigger and better things. Love your sound tom.
Two very great Guys!
Fantastisch.... bedankt voor het delen.
What a great studio! Some great synth in here!
The Dutch Masters!!!!
it's bad ass to see such a professional that uses cubase!! and there's no hidden smoke and mirrors, let's just keep fueling our passions and anything is possible. one day I will do what I love full time.
Hans Zimmer also uses Cubase, it´s a killer DAW. Pro Tools is not better by default, it´s just more established.
great names will be happy to hear more about music actually
Great video, with 2 great guys!. More :D
Thank you for sharing. That overview of your workflow in the end, and how picture lock never really exists; makes it increasingly challenging for composers these days to lock a score in.
Wow-flashbacks of 1999!
it's great!
Such a good feeling after watching this video Tom. I can really relate to it when one of my old friends drop by at the studio. It was great seeing the 2 maestros talk to each other and catch up on what they're upto. I think Armin is gonna consider joining the film league now as well, he did look like he's done with EDM styled music.
Great video!
I highly doubt it, he's still putting out track after track and seems to love touring. Film scoring would put and end to that.
SUPER...!
damn the "very capable dude in town" who services his gear must make most of his living off this guys synths
Looks like it's sweaty in there ^^
MightySavagE that's what u thought. My studio is like a fridge when my gear is running. Paranoid about stuff overheating
MightySavagE referencing his pits. Lol
Werdrath yeah, I know. I had a typo. I picked up on it too, and then it made me think of my super cold studio
MightySavagE now I know why he’s calling Junkie XL 🥴🤢
Super leuk!
Tonight in my dream Tom visited my home studio
so cool and inspiring
Beautiful. I Love it.
Inspirerend! Bedankt en keep it up!
Proud to be dutch :D
i need that studio :D
You could tell that all armin wanted to do was stop touring and be able to spend all that time in the studio and with his family...
Two BadASS human beings 🥵
this guy and ott have impressive collection of synthetizers
Junkie should make a collab with AvB. x)
Furry Scythe NO
Very cool guys!
Thanks for doing this, quality content! Props for the dedication too, waking up at 4 to work... damn.
trance!
Mandy Lane you are s beauty Mandy. Hopefully Trance comes back to the big stage again!
I don't hope so. Music has more air for creativity if it lives in a subculture.
Man the Dutch language sounds really cool
Mooie ontmoeting.
Wow....😀👍👍👍
Awesome video!
Nice. ;)
typicaly, i started to check comments; but DAMN I DONT KNOW THAT LANGUAGE!!! :D
I love Dutch people......
that place looks like a mad scientist lab!
Good video. Keep it up
Always thought Tom was tall😂.
🎼🎶
Jaa, Nederlands :-)
Waiting for Armin to enter the Hollywood.
If this interview were a movie these guys would be Jason Siegel and Vin diesel.
No collab since then?
Armin moet lekker mee gaan scoren voor films! Na JXL en Zimmer de beste combinatie! 2 gods in 1 room!
Portugal? How was the company that made those modulars in a garage?
Clash of the titans!
Damn
Awesome. But a cheek Armin asking if you use an engineer 😂
what is the music in the background ? can I get it somewhere ?
What 909 clone? Or is he talking about the TR-09 ?
let's see what junkie going to do for justice league score i hope you follow zimmars's theme
studio porn.. also nice to see elm & film composers together
How come you've said almost nothing (from what I can tell, haven't watched every second of your videos) about your still relatively huge eurorack system? Seems like you mostly care about your 5U, so why even have the euro there?
"It takes a lot of effort to get something out of it which means it sounds personal by default."
You summed up perfectly the attraction of modular synths. For me coming from an instrumental music background, it's among the only electronic instruments I've been able to use/own that feels like a real instrument (the other is the Dominion 1).
2:26 someone knows the title????? :D:D
4:00 Ludovico Einaudi !
You can almost see the drool cascading out of Armin's mouth
sounds like English, but backwards
Hey guys! what's the song @ 7.40 ? thank you
it's from one of his latest scores for movie called "distance between dreams", track name is "Distant Lights"
Thank u!
This language is so close to english yet so far away.. I could almost understand all without looking at the subtitles
Of course English and Dutch are Germanic languages!
audiofiellen..
get some AC man!
Naaaaa... You cant compare a crap Laptop with VST's To emulate the same sound production of all those fricking Modules..... Its super cool. The level of creativity/Space/Detail/ and etc is not from a single program. I wish i had money to spend for at least like a 300-900 synthesizer. Pay more mortgage than fricking 2 lambos so sucks.
