Scotch It! You scotch gods.
The Macallan 12 was what started my whisky journey in 2016. Back then it was $46. It is now $85 in my neighborhood. Gasoline is near $8 a gallon so.... life has gotten much more expensive.
Ouch
I've seen it for $150! No joke.
While I like Macallan, I just can’t financially support a distillery that has decided they are a luxury brand. I believe this is everything that’s wrong in Scotch. There are better options for less pretentious and reasonable prices.
You make such a great point. Scotch has really gotten out of hand regarding price over the last ten years. Even blends have jumped in price. I have had some house brand scotch from Total Wine that is absolutely excellent and doesn’t break the bank. I am no “scotch snob”. If it tastes good, I don’t care if it is a “premium” brand or not.
100%, and I am a "Scotch Snob" 😉
thanks David!
When Bunnahabhain 12 is $54, this bottle doesn't even almost cross my mind. Almost half the price and double the quality.
Agree!
The Bunna 12 is amazing for the price and the Mac is 40% here in the UK. No contest!
@@billyboy9810 I agree. I Got introduced to Bunna 12 five years ago and find it to be not only a wonderful whiskey but one of the best values for your money. Everyone should check it out. Glendronach 12 is another great one compared to M12. It is $55 here. Cheers!
love the Bunna 12!
they are so different to me, and I reach for that Macallan 12 Sherry more often then Bunna... I have both 40% and 43% and they are too - not the same, I would probably keep buying the 43% but there is something about the 40% I still like.
This was our first scotch 4 or 5 years ago. The 12 sherry cask. Was under 60 at CostCo. Based on that went in on their 2017 Classic Cut for 80. Then Macallan prices went crazy!! CHEERS!
the 2017 Classic Cut is selling for over $1000 now on the secondary.
@@ScotchTestDummies Are you shitting me??!! I still have a couple. WOW!!
@@djbeacon6895 hang on to them! keep them sealed!
@@ScotchTestDummies FoSho!!
Macallan 12 sherry & 12 double oak are not a standard product on the shelves anymore in my store, as well as other scotches. This Macallan 12 is $85 and IMO is way overpriced and under delivers. The only way I would buy a Macallan today, is from an independent bottler. I bought the G&M 19 yr at 58.3 abv for $300 and its a stunner. I recently bought the Kilchoman Sanaig for about $63 after watching your review and it crushes the Mac 12. If you want just sherry, I also bought the Edradour 10 for about $60 and that is much better than the Mac 12 sherry. Great review.
that Sanaig was surprising!
Jean was not happy to hear your news about a 40% reduction in her favorite scotch. Looks like we'll have to go shopping again. Every time we watch the Dummies we end up going shopping...stupid internet. 🥃😁
Dumb Dummies 😁
I like the Macallan 12 but won’t be rushing out to stock up before the 40% reduction hits Kansas. With the Macallan 12 now getting real close to $100 in our area (some stores have it on the shelf for $95) there’s too many alternatives that are better for my palate (and higher proof, too) - GlenAllachie 12 to name just one.
good call Frank!
I so agree. I can get Lagavulin 16 for $5 less than M12 in most places where I live.
So I’m sitting here watching this remembering the only time I’d had Macallan 12. I was feeling a little steamed because at the restaurant I ordered at gave me a glass full of Ice when I ordered it neat. A few moments later you guys mentioned similar experiences.
We’ve been keeping an eye on you Trev…👀
I might pick up a Macallan. Maybe. But not right now. Ardbeg, Laphroaig, and Bruichladdich are all releasing great stuff at the moment.
Bring on the GAS experiment video!!
Boom
Your re-reviews have been great. Thanks for doing a few. And don't listen to any Kansas "fly-over state" B.S. I've been to Kansas a few times, always loved it and should probably visit again soon. Cheers, fellas!
Thanks Robert. We enjoy our little corner of the world
This is my quintessential sherry oak scotch
Me too N.K.
agreed! Scott
22 years ago this was my first whiskey love. I still really enjoy it but the price has increased by 90%. I get it prices go up but this is rediculous which is why I pick others for the price.
nice, thanks alberto!
@@ScotchTestDummies Just want to share an update. This whiskey goes for 90 - $95 in my area. Those prices are insane. I just picked up 2 bottles at a very popular store chain for $45 each on clearance, the most recent bottling. At $45 this whiskey is a fantastic buy which is why I had to pick up 2 bottles. Sadly, it is doubtful I will ever buy this whiskey again because I just got super lucky. That is a shame because it really is a nice, tasty and very pleasing whiskey.
yuno mention which mac 12. double cask ? triple cask ? fine oak ? sherry cask ? where is plenty of them on the market
the Original...Sherry Cask
The stash is epic! BartBeg!
Boom. Thanks j P. We’ll see how over the top I can get it before “The Man” makes me trim it down
I'm with Bart, for the money I'm reaching for peated scotch!
Also, Glendronach 12 I can still find under $50.
Glenallachie 12 is superior and cheaper $65.
I do have a burgundy box Mac 12 bottled in January 2013, supposedly better than the current stuff.
Thought the gas expirement was interesting, haven't seen a new video on it in awhile...
Cheers Dummies!
One a year. Look for it in January
@@ScotchTestDummies I must have missed the January 2022
Salina still has a good amount, but have not seen it in Lawrence recently
👍
Which one is this ? The Double Cask, Sherry cask or the older one that had no "cask" mention in its name ? I thought it disappeared a while ago.
Sherry
Pretty good. Gets you in the door. Quit a job, boss was buying me 18yr.......nice. Later I found out how much it costs 😳
Nice boss
im diggin the beard Bart!!
Thank you Classics
Ah, Macallan Sulphur Oak 12 Years Old. I know it all too well, sadly.
I can get it for $73us no added tax.
I must say it has great cask quality and is a fine whisky
Just rather buy whiskies I like more that cost $20-35us less...
True
$90, but up to $150 in NYC. Delicious stuff, and it's a free world I'm told, but you're a complete JA if you buy it at either price... respectfully.
P.S. That board of whisky stuff looks like a something Keith Richards would've had in the 70s.
I thought Keef was more into dope? And kidding aside, his memoir Life did have a chapter on the great heroin squeeze back in his junkie days. When word on the street for a few weeks was there was no supply. Third week in the price was severely jacked up (there was no shortage, the dealers held back to drive up the cost.) Once available again people bought it without batting and eye. (Sounds like our current whisky crisis...)
@@javieracosta3439 Ha! Yeah, it kinda does.
"board of whisky stuff?"
@@ScotchTestDummies "whisky paraphernalia" sounds a bit too seedy 😉
Please check Bulgarian Whisky, Savoy Whisky its great!
Sounds interesting
@@ScotchTestDummies yeah please test it!
I still have a couple of the red boxes on the shelf and they call to me. It's hard not to open them. For the price they have lost their minds. It's good but Ugiedahl is less and that's where is makes no sense to buy macallan anymore. There are just too many great ones for less than what macallan costs these days. I can get a bottle of ardbeg 10 and a bottle of deanston virgin oak and still be less than mac 12.
Bart loves you!
I think Macallan is waiting for prices to go up then will release product
Those dang Scotch Cartels!!
Interesting
Some say the quality has gone down over the years, too bad you don't have that 2013 bottle to compare. Here in Onterrible Canada it don't matter anyhow as the price is $160 so it's milk & cookies fer us (lol).
Lol
$171.25 Canadian in Montreal
Ouch
still $70 in Maryland
👍
the only Mac i like is the sherry cask. the double stinks. the nose is great but the low abv does not carry the great nose to the palate.
👍
Where in Kansas are you guys?
Wichita
@@ScotchTestDummies What’s your go to store in town? West Wichita here, and my go to’s are R&J’s and Tom’s.
West too. Scott it’s them all. Probably Auburn Spites the most.
Everything has been Covid manipulated so bad I want to puke with the pricing of everything. That aside, I really like this bottle as well.
We need the UK to join NAFTA. The four countries would be awesome trade partners
And the whisky would flow both ways with ease
"No. It's good." ??
Just to expensive in Canada at 160 now. So you got a cheap buy boys
Wow that is pricey
Not a fan, taste weird to me. Taste like stale leather, and fresh paint. Maybe I got a bad bottle? I don’t get any of the notes mentioned here. Finish has a bit of citrus but that’s it.
70👍
👍
What is the deal with the thumbnail?
Yeah, i am confused. Is that a NRA supported channel ?
Guns and booze is the American way of life. /s
Throw back to the original review of this bottle. We talked whisky and Zombie’s. And Scott used to be a SWAT Team leader…prior to becoming the Bomb Squad Commander. We are Zombie ready. 😱
This is like the rich looking guy who pulls up in his fancy car. They don't like him, but might want to drive the car. If they do, they find out he's got a bitchin tape player with "Dust in the Wind" and you realize you are as much a snob as you thought he was.
We like the way you talk Mark
I don’t know what their doing but they must sell a lot it’s a 100 dollars in Idaho to me I don’t get it they have a cult fallowing it’s way over priced.
It’s like paying for the Green in your John Deere tractor/mower. It’s good but you are paying a premium. Let your own taste buds be your guide.
This Scotch is incredibly OVERRATED!! Sorry, Scott. Glendronach every day over this swill...😁
We like it
@@ScotchTestDummies sounds like a Bart answer. My issue is the newbies to Scotch think that is the "be all" for Scotch drinking, and it's average at best. They killed it on the marketing front, so props to them for that. Newbies need to branch out, that's all.
