Veganism is not a diet. It's the ethical principle that opposes the commodification of non-human sentient beings for any purpose, be it food, clothing, entertainment or sports.

Omg! I really can't hear anymore, people saying veganism is just a fad or a trend, ITS FUCKING NOT!! Most of the people(me included) turn into vegan after knowing the bitter facts of the cruel meat industry throughout the world and its damaging effects on the environment. Let me say it again, we are not vegans because we think it's cool, we chose to be coz it's the only ethical decision to be compassionate and loving towards our planet. I personally used to enjoy the taste of various meats before turning into vegan, but decided that animals lives and planet's well being is far more important than serving my taste buds. I hope everyone understands this!

Dude, first of all spirituality one of the primary requisite or a primary self evolution is compassion to other living beings. And this dude is saying on the lines that whatever makes you feel good, that is spirituality. Ok, fine if someone wants to kill someone, it just makes him feel good and alive, so according to this guy that is spirituality.
Now about Islam and other Abrahamic religion he mentioned. These are more or less religion which came from a desert areas where plants was very less. Another part, Abrahamic religions are more or less about just believing whatever is told. So I don't see any spirituality, any real seeking here(all these i am saying based on talking amd observing, feel free to correct me if blind believing, no asking of questions is the way its professed or not)And there who evolve do at their own research and effort.
This guy equates bodily feeling of pleasure, rites, rituals and organsied religion to spirituality.
Spirituality is the door to evolution of humans. It has almost nothing to do with this or that religion.
Despite anything, the unnecessary suffering, and that too massive torture and atrocities are evident that humans inflict on animals. Besides a loving heart you don't need a certain God or a religion to teach you this.
Now if say meat was a lab made cultured meat then that is something you can say I choose to eat or I choose not to eat. But here, people are afraid to get an injection yet they pay for animals to be killed

I have been vegetarian since birth and went vegan about 3 years ago because of health reasons at first. I have PCOD and milk and other dairy based products were making my PCOD worse. After that I started researching about what is veganism and I must have read and watched all the content out there including a lot of documentaries. And since then there's no looking back. I stayed vegan because of ethical and environmental reasons. It was a bit tricky at first but I tried different things and figured out what's best for me. I dont take any supplement other than B12 which was lower even when I was vegetarian. I dont eat any of the meat alternatives because I never had meat so I never crave it. Nor do I but any of the expensive vegan alternatives. I make simple coconut nut milk at home. Sometimes I make almond milk (you need only about 16-20 soaked almonds for 250-300 ml that's about a glass of milk) or oat milk depending on what I want to make. I make peanut curd at home and that doesn't cost me much either. I eat normal dal, roti, chawal, sabzi, beans, lentils, legumes, nuts and seeds, soy chunks i.e. Normal ghar ka khaana (My mother just takes out a bowl or two of dal before adding her ghee based tempering to it) and my protein and calcium levels are absolutely perfect. I never owned any leather based clothes or stuff even when I wasn't vegan but I had some wool based clothes and I still wear them, I don't buy any animal skin based clothes and other stuff now but I haven't dumped the old stuff that I had.
We live in a non vegan world and no matter how hard you try, you can never be 100% vegan but I give my best every day. And I think that's what we need. We dont need few perfect vegans. We need a lottttttt of non perfect vegans who are trying to bring a change.
There's a very beautiful quote by Mother Teresa which gives me strength to look at the larger picture and ignore the hate that I often get because I am vegan: "If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives: Be kind anyway. If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies: Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank people will try to cheat you: Be honest anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight: Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous of you: Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten by tomorrow: Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough: Give your best anyway."
PS : I dont hate non vegans nor do I force any of my non vegan family members and friends to go vegan. I have seen some vegans who try imposing veganism on others but it doesn't work like that. If someone would have told me to go vegan 10 years ago I would have told them that I can never go vegan because I love my milk, dahi, panner, etc but I did went vegan when it felt right. And I could stay vegan because I had my "WHY". I hope everyone finds there "WHY" when they think of going vegan. I do recommend my non vegan family and friends and others to watch game changers, cowspiracy, seaspiracy and other beautiful documentaries to find their "WHY". We as a community should educate people (non vegans) about veganism instead of imposing it on them and making them think that they are bad people.

      @khushi.goyal005 Před rokem +17

      @@aartivenkatesan8048 Hii aarti,
Glad I could be of help. Just remember to keep it simple. Dont go looking for substitutes for dairy stuff as you wont like the taste of a lot of stuff at first. Also go vegan in phases, start by quitting one thing at a time (start with something that's easiest for you to quit) and slowly quit every animal based product you consume and look for vegan and cruelty free brands for non edible things like skin care, hair care, body care, clothes and other stuff like that. Dont throw the old stuff you have but dont buy them in the future. Stick to your simple ghar ka khaana and find plant based cafes and restaurants near you so that you dont end up isolating yourself which makes veganism really restrictive and not sustainable in the long run. And if you have to go out to eat at a place which is not plant based look for dishes which can be easily customised or are already vegan (south indian food is already almost always vegan at most of the places). Also the important thing to remember is to not feel guilty if you end up eating something non vegan by mistake or there's actually nothing you can eat at a place (as I already said in my comment - we dont need few perfect vegans, we need a lot of imperfect vegans are trying their best to bring a change).
      Some tried and tested substitutes:
      1) Milk :
Coconut milk - Make it at home. Uts really easy to make and won't cost you much. 1-1.5 ltr of milk will cost you about 40-45 rs. Tastes best in soups, smoothies, curries and when you need to cook something creamy.
Almond milk - Again just try making it at home. The commercial one is quite expensive and also contains a lot of preservatives and all. Great for tea, coffee, hot chocolate, baking, etc.
Oat milk - Dont try making this at home first. It will become really slimy and you wont feel like having it. Try making it only after you have mastered making the other nut milks. Urban platters oat milk is great for baking and for tea, coffee.
Cashew milk - Make at home. Very simple and easy to make. Quite expensive to make at home but still cheaper and healthier than the packaged ones. Great when you want to make something cheesy. You can make a cashew cheese at home which can actually act as a great substitute when made right. You can try recipes on goodful (youtube channel).
You can also try soy milk. I dont like the taste of it but you should try that for yourself.
Dont try the grain based milks out there like rice milk and stiff like that.
      2) Curd and butter milk:
Peanut curd is the best when it comes to vegan curds. Again I will suggest you to make it at home. You might fail once or twice but after that you will never have to but it from outside. Peanut curd ki kadhi is toh amazing. CZcams recommendation : Rajshri food vegan series, Sanjeev Kapoor vegan series, Vegan richa.
Coconut milk ka chass is the best substitute for dairy based buttermilk.
      3) Ghee and butter:
Honestly speaking I dont like the taste of coconut oil on my rotis as a ghee substitute so I just avoid that completely. But for cooking purpose you can stick to any vegetable oils you get in the market. It totally depends on the recipe I want to have when it comes to oil. I use mustard oil for some, refined sunflower oil when I need something neutral, etc.
But you can always make and store homemade nut butters. I have then with my smoothies or just simply have some banana peanut butter bites or apples with some almond butter as snacks and they really help me in keeping my protein intake in check.
      4) panner and cheese :
I think this will be the most difficult one to leave ( or substitute) for most of the vegetarians when they are trying to go vegan. Some people stick to soy panner i.e. tofu for this but I dont like the taste of it. You can give it a try. I something have this vegan panner by this brand I cant remember right now but their vegan panner is not soy based and I really like it. You can just sinple browse that and you'll find it very easily. Coming to cheese, god this one is actually the most difficult one. But I stick to cashew chees made with cashews and nutritional yeast (nooch) etc but you can just go for the vegan cheese substitutes. There are a lot of great vegan cheeses out there (urban platter is a great brand to go with. There vegan range is absolutely amazing. You can also treat yourself with vegan pizzas once in a while if there a vegan place serving it near you. You have to look for a recipe on youtube for vegan cheese but @goodful has a really great vegan pizza cheese recipe which you can try.
Find your "WHY" and that will make the transition really easy for you. Consistent knowledge is the key to stick to a new lifestyle. Watch a lot of documentaries, read books, etc on plant based diets and vegan lifestyle. Also just remember to replace instead of removing something completely or else you will end up binge eating something you were restricting yourself from eating and then will end up feeling really guilty.
Always there to help you. Happy transitioning.
      ~ Khushi

Looking at Veganism from a lens of what's best-for-you(which is the very basis of Speciesism) is an extremely shallow way of approaching this topic. Also, if you can please refrain from generalizing the titles of your videos without really getting into the deep waters w.r.t. a particular topic, that would be really great as it would allow your audience to gain more clarity and accumulate less FUD.

Instead of discussing these really important points, choosing the Most selfish reason " What Suits You". Expected something bigger than that from a Guy like you Ranveer.
Over 70 Billion animals are killed each year in the name of food. Remember total human population in the world is 1/10 of the animals killed only in 1year. Almost all of them are factory farmed, fed lots of food, use a lot of resources and cause environmental damage to an extent that its the 2nd biggest contributor of global warming. They cause cruelity, Environment damage, health issues and what not, but still you manage to take a comfortable side for most of your neutral audience. Look for some people with deeper insights over all factor not just "What Suits you". Regarding the question on kids, what you shared is such a fresh perspective on this topic, I never saw it that way and you are so so right. Whatever we decide is a selfish choice that should make us happy. And why to have this sort of transaction in life where we are making babies so that we get something in return(in this case, if we take care of them now they would take care of us in future), love should be unconditional(if you are making babies you shouldn't have any expectations from them). You have changed my view completely on this topic and it was so so helpful. Thank you for enlightening me. The reason why some people feel good "for few days" switching back to Nonveg diet is because the nonveg/dairy are readily available for absorption by the body while the veg food takes a while to get absorbed. Remember that your body adapts to it slowly - and all this magic is being done by the gut microbiome which takes time to develop . Depending on how diverse food you are eating. - if you are eating just processed or whole plant based food etc. So there goes the atgument of some people feeling better on Nonveg diet - it is NEVER sustainable healthwise in longer term(read decades). Nonveg contains ZERO fiber and hence no food to eat for the good microbiome to thrive( fiber not just needed for digestion, but it is the food of good microbiome)
    2) Carbs are not bad. STOP MAKING CARBS A VILLAIN . Carbs are what made our brains grow than other animals, foods containing carbs are what makes our gut microbiome thrive(fiber again ) and kick our good neurotransmitters(crossinng blood brain barrier mechanism). The Villain is "Processed Carbs" - like sugar, pastries etc. Not the whole food . The thumb rule - never eat anything which is separated and extracted from the source - eg oil, sugar etc.
    3) You are right about propaganda/Lobby being made about BP etc. But you are also a victim of same dairy/beef/chicken industry propoganda when you recommend it just because some improvements in parameters [ read-NOT-health](cause of ready absorption of nutrients) for few weeks/years . Reducing weight is not improving health. There are TONS of other parameters - one has to think holistically. Not just to build muscles and to reduce weight. You fail to highlight tons of other deceases which are caused by dairy and nonveg. (From autoimmune to cancer )
Its like this - I serve you a nice delicious food piece which is floating out there in a gutter - and put it on your plate -- would you eat it? No right? Why? cause it contains lot of germs/harmful things which were floating in gutter. Exact same thing with nonveg and dairy - lot of antibiotics, toxins, carcinogenic substances, mercury etc - are contained in that. The quantity of bad surpasses good. In the long run your body, mind will give up getting rid / flushing out these toxins - they will accumulate and you fall sick or develop a horrible decease. [ which you will blame on old age or pollution - not knowing you caused it - thats point number 4 below ]
    4) Total ignorance of the environmental factors here. This is almost criminal to think only about your health in isolation and not care about planet. You don't exist in a different universe. If you take planet down - you go down. Continue to admire your no-carbs abs for few years in mirror for few years while deforestation caused by animal and dairy farming causes death of all living beings in just few decades from now.
Such a short sightedness is almost nauseating !
    5) I am not even touching ethical side of being a whole plant based food vs nonveg/dairy. [ read murder/rape - in that order] . Thats for another day - he is clearly wrong though in spirituality too - but it will take me long text to say how .
    PS :
b12 is not produced by animals.
Calcium is not made by cows.
Omega3 is not made by fish
These all come from veggies these animals, fishes eat.
Stop filtering your food through dead bodies. Eat the source.

Since a lot of people don't know I will mention here if you want to be vegan-
    Supplement -
    1.B12 (2000 mcg two times a week)
    2. Vitamin d3 (400 IU) daily. Unless you roam naked in sun.
    3. EPA DHA algae supplement (even if you eat flax seeds daily)
    4. Replace normal salt with iodised salt. (Unless you eat sea vegetables like kelp daily)
Eat beans lentils for protein. And everything else is quite easy. It would be hard for you if-
    1. You are an milk addict. (Milk replacement products are not healthy.)
    2. You are a junk addict. Veganism by default is not healthy unless you eat whole foods.
Reasons people can have problems -
    1. Eating or having coconut oil or coconut milk. Very high in saturated fat can cause heart disease.
    2. Not eating seeds like sunflower seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds. To be eaten in grinded form. Otherwise body won't absorb it.
    3. People choose not to supplement the above and try natural sources of b12 which doesn't work.
    4. Not eating 3-5 times a day. Some people eat only once and snack or not eating variety like carrots, greens etc.
Best of luck if you are trying to be on vegan diet.

This is the most well handled answer i have heard about veganism vs other diets.
I have tried to go vegetarian atleast 5 times in my life, by choice and after 3 months my TSH shoots up, my hair falls like crazy, and i get anemic. And i am a doctor and a nutrition enthusiast so i know how to balance a diet. But eventhough i workout daily n walk atleast 6-8k steps everyday in addition, i put on fat more on a vegetarian diet. Bcoz my body thrives on a high protein diet. And in order to get that much protein from a vegetarian diet, you consume excess of calories and carbs. Bcoz every plant protein haa significant carbs in proportion.
So basically, everyone responds differently and it should be a choice. Whatever works for u, gives u physical and mental health, is what is right for u

After reading a lot of comments I am writing this.
    1) Non veg, do more harm than good, antibiotics, growth hormones. Milk is meant for growth of cows baby, which will have heavy growth hormones, to fight these hormones body generates antibodies, these damage your thyroid gland. Milking makes cows feel stress & these stress hormones r also in milk. To an extent butter milk is fine bcoz microbes break hormones.
So what are the alternatives, for milk, go for peanut milk, ragi milk, coconut milk. I don't suggest soy milk.
For protein, non veg is a big myth. Digestive system breaks protein into amino acids(AA). So you need AAs not protein. Any fruit will supply AAs(essential & non essential). By cooking, veggies will lose AAs, raw veggies also supply AAs. So protein is a big myth. With fruits you are reducing digestive load also.
    2) B12 - your gut microbes make a lot of vitamins including b12. If you are deficient in b12 that means you have probiotic imbalance. So b12 intake is not a solution, improve gut microbes with partridge.
What caused probiotic imbalance ? Your antibiotic use & nonveg(including eggs). One chicken leg piece is equivalent to augmentin duo anti biotic tab.
    3) fish oil - alternatives r ghee & flaxseed oil.
    4) salt - go with sea salt. Table salt is biproduct of petrolium extract. Himalayan salt, mineral composition depends on the mining location so sea salt has a uniform mineral composition.
    5) Last karma, your health is totally linked with karma, your nutrient obsorption is also depends on your karma. So dissolve your karma by meditation. For that 1) PMC 2) SUSHMNA KRIYA YOGA 3) MASTER CVV will help.

Luke Coutinho's take on spirituality is questionable, the whole point of compassion or empathy which is the essence of spiritualism is consideration for other living things, it is about not harming other beings or causing them to suffer in the pursuit of our needs. The commandment "'Thou shalt not Kill"' did not specify that it is applicable only to humans, also remember God's kingdom is imagined as place where tigers and deers live together in peace . So why not try to replicate it right here (atleast between humans and animals) on earth if you have access to vegetarian food. Humans are Omnivores , some take that as an opportunity to be kind and others take it as license to kill.
I can understand Eskimos not having the chance to be kind because of their habitat but others who do can ought to try their best. How can people feel for their pets but at the same time not care about animals raised for meat, who are confined and separated from their young and eventually slaughtered ? A dog and a pig have comparable intelligence, infact a pig is more intelligent than a dog as far as I know. Also remember, cattle are more powerful than humans, they can be domesticated only because they trust us or they could easily trample or gore people to death. Using them and slaughtering them mercilessly is an ultimate betrayal of their trust. Not only cattle, all animals deserve kindness but I gave this example only illustrate betrayal. People who fail at veganism do so because they don't inform themselves fully and do it wrong. I am disappointed in you Ranveer for not rebutting Luke's take on spirituality logically.

Why the animal perspective not taken into account by humans, more than health or environment. Why are animals viewed as food? Humans don't eat their humans companions in colder areas, coz it's the same tribe. It's survival issues for them, hence they look out for weaklings of a different tribe. If there weren't any animals for Eskimos, what would they resort to? Weaklings of their own tribe? People who have a million ethical options, can easily guage and train their minds and bodies into a vegetarian diet. And veganism is pure bliss, for animals, and eventually for us. Let's keep the animal choice to live, as an obvious perspective on top priority. That animal is weak, innocent, feels intense pain, is at our mercy. A person who truly meditates, and knows the whole karmic process, will treat animals as our fellow buddies rather than food. That's being mindful and conscious.
