  • We hope you love restoration timelapse videos! Check out footage from July 2023-June 2024 of the Boeing B-17D "The Swoose". This is both a restoration and conservation project. Some airframe areas need repair and restoration for structural integrity and exhibit-worthiness, while others will be conserved as-is to maintain originality. The overall aim is to present the artifact in the context in which it was received, i.e., to preserve it in the configuration of its final mission. #avgeek #restoration

    The Swoose is actually one of the only D variants (as stated by the official website and Wikipedia), and has seen combat through 1941-42 in the Philippines Campaign. Glad that they are restoring this beauty

    Last time I saw the Swoose it was 2014 and the Swoose was stuffed in the back of the restoration hangar while the Memphis Belle was being restored. I hope I live long enough to see her finished.

    You gentlemen are extremely fortunate to be able to take part in seeing this beautiful bird take flight again.
    Ive seen B29 FROZEN IN TIME..The Kee-bird met a sad end due to the pilot -Daryl whatsisface
    being in a hurry- bouncing that poor aircraft like a ping-pong ball.They had a ghetto set up for auxiliary power and it caugt fire.
    It BURNED to the ground because of him..

    For those that did not know, actress Swoosie Kurtz got her name from the Swoose. Her father piloted it during the war.

      Today's tradesmen are still building and fixing everything that needs to be built and fixed. As a teacher I'm still promoting the trades as being equal to a college education (because they are), and so are many others nationwide.

      @@kmoecub I think we condition to many of our children to go to university vs trades they just shut a trade school down near me a few years back. sure there are some they are aged and the young ones are far a few between we could not even produce at the scale of ww2 not enough machinist in this day and age. IMPO keep supporting trades your doing the right thing

    Kyra Sedgwick, Kevin Bacons wife is also related to the pilot of this aircraft ( I think ). Comment below does reference his actress daughter Swooze , I probably getting too many late night TV shows mixed up.. I hope they just restore and not fly it.

      @lynnnordby6924 Před 13 dny +1

      No, the actress you're thinking is "Swoosie" Kurtz, daughter of the pilot, Frank Kurtz, that flew the Swoose in the Philippines and Australia at the beginning of WW2. She was named after the plane.

    There is a Great Movie of this Type of B-17 ( The Shark Fin Tail B-17) from 1943 " AIRFORCE " It is Very Loosely Based on the 19th Bomb Group, Which Flew During the Early Months of World War 2 in the Pacific Theater ! The Star of the Movie is the B-17C the " Mary-Ann " ! The "Swoose " Is a B-17D ! I am So Looking Forward to The Completion of This Historic Aircraft!

    • @gordonbergslien30
      @gordonbergslien30 Před 14 dny +1

      The government's position is that historic a/c are too valuable to fly. As a result, a/c at the NASM, Air Force Museum and Naval Aviation museum are strictly static. I go round and round with this. Old airplanes are cool to see in museums and very cool to see fly at airshows but when you have one strapped to your butt and go for a spin... I have no words other than to say it's like it's alive! Yes, l know how lucky l am!
