- Since I have shared the TOFU65 Typing test video, I have received a quite a few requests to make a tutorial on how I O-Ring mounted my TOFU65, and made it sound the way it does. So here it is! The tutorial video on how to achieve the best sounding TOFU!
Link to the Typing Test Video!
• TOFU65 Aluminum + Bras...
Not only does this O-Ring mod help the TOFU sound much better, it also improves the overall typing feel as well, making the keyboard feel much more even, softer and "poppy," thanks to the soft silicone rings the pcb/plate sits on. Hope you enjoy this tutorial, and it helps you to make your TOFU sound and feel amazing as well!

This is one of the best tofu65s I've heard
Thanks Glarses! Appreciate the comment! "Just a tofu," but can be so much more with a bit of effort. Perfect gateway for us to lose all of our money to this game :)
if it's glarses certified, this is the real deal, will definitely try this
Ponker bless.
If it's one of the best you heard. Then what's the BEST tofu65 that you ever heard ?
Definitely
Forget being the best sounding tofu65 this is one of the best keyboards sound wise imo
Hi Redhurricane! Thank you so much for your comments! Really appreciate it! :)
This keyboard sounds like the lego Star Wars building sound
Hi Will Guanci! Thank you for watching! I have another video coming soon with creameron switches, and those really sound like lego building lol.
It does!!!!
all lego, lol
I CANT UNHEAR IT
sounds like old cartoon bone rattling
I can't thank you enough for sharing this mod. I just got a tofu65 and had such buyers remorse due to the reverb. This makes the sound/feel so much better. I have to say that "foam" find was also amazing. I attempted this mod first go round with just filling the cavity with the zip-n-fit and using the foam that came with my tofu from kbdfans, but still had a small bit of reverb.. Swapped it with the zip-n-fit for the plate foam and what a difference. That was an amazing find and incredibly cheap! I'm going to stock up on it for future builds. Thank you again!
I've watched the last part of this video a 100 times now and still can't get over how nice they sound, you did an awesome job
Thank you so much Prashanth! I really appreciate it! I think the combination of the lilacs and the mods really complement each other so well. I'll have to test this with various keycaps and see what the best combo is!
I have no words for how good this sounds.
Thank you for your comments!
@@Keybored hey keybored, i was wondering, when you do this mod, does the pcb get elevated?
@@tide6447 A tad bit, to allow for flex
Dude you made this sound incredible!! & the tutorial was so precise and high quality - really awesome work!
Hi Becca Lecter! Thank you so much for the comments! Hope the video was helpful!
Finally someone who covered the Lilacs in detail, tsym
Hi Nima! Thank you for watching! The Lilacs are one of my favorite tactiles as of this moment. Really good balance between tactility and smoothness!
I can already see this kind of mod become popular, awesome video man!
Thank you for watching kunfu!
Wouldn't it have been much easier to just put one O-ring on a screw, put it through the hole on PCB and then get another O-ring and put it around the screw on the other side? Then lower the PCB into the case and just screw it in place.
Hi Hitoyomi, I'm sure that will work just fine as well!
Yes, that would be much easier
@@Keybored Can you pin this for reference? Hitoyomi = 200 IQ, and this video is great, got it in my keeb playlist for my Tofu build soon
genius!
I tried that is impossible to get the screw into the hole.
Really appreciate this tutorial, I'm new to custom keyboards and just tried this on my Tofu60 and can't believe the difference in typing feel and the uniformity of sound
It really helps to transform the keyboard! Glad it worked out!
This is the sound sample I show people when they ask me why mechanical keyboards are worth the money. Beautiful work!
The fact that you are still answering questions and answered my question is incredible. The video is 5 months old and there are over thousand comments and you just keep delivering.
Huge service to our community providing this awesome mod with help, info, clear instructions and exact parts that were used!
Really appreciate the effort and hopefully you will grow your channel more since you deserve it!
Absolutely! I hope I can be of help to grow the community and help out all the newcomers that are starting out in this hobby! It can be overwhelming at times, so glad to help out!
Definitely best sounding keyboard I heard. I would love to make one sounding like that some day!
Hi Banko! Thank you for watching watching and I really appreciate your comments!
I got these o rings for my tofu!!! I never would have thought of this. Thank you for improving my build
I'm glad to be of help! I hope it turns out amazing!
Thanks a lot! I think this is mod sooooo underrated. Not only for tofu, even prebuilt keyboard sounds and feels better. Just made it for my keychron k6.
Yup, I tried this on a k2 before and it was also night and day!
Just did this on my TOFU60 and NK Creams! The sound is night and day! I can actually see this become a popular mod, as it drastically increases both the feel and sound of the keyboard. Thanks!
HI Theo! So glad it worked out! It truly improves the tofu to the next level!
@@Keybored it really does, I love the sleekness and simplicity of the tofu and this is just the cherry on top
Were you able to use two o-rings for each stand off with the screws for the tofu60? Also did you use all the standoffs? I will be attempting this on thursday with my tofu60 very excited!
@@gerryFOREALS hi Gerry, perhaps Theo can chime in also, but I would recommend using the outer standoffs only, and using 1 o ring. 2 o rings maybe too thick, and would cause the usb port to not align. Hope that helps!
@@Keybored Thank you for the tip ! By only using one oring for each stand off , should I have it below the pcb only ?
this is actually so smart basically a diy gasket mount sorta thing
Thank you Staplez! I appreciate the comment!
So I did this with my tofu and it sounds fantastic, but more importantly it feels so much nicer to type on than just a standard plate mount, thanks for the idea!
No problem Tom! I'm glad it worked out! I was typing on my Tofu65 today and thinking... wow this thing types so well :)
This sounds amazing! Getting ready to refresh and upgrade my tofu60, can’t wait to use this method.
Should work out great for your TOFU60 as well! Good luck!
Thank you for the tutorial !
Would love to see sound comparison for before and after mod :)
Hi M Izzul Iman! Looks like there is some interest in this, so I'll try putting together a video comparison between stock and a few different configurations in the near future!
I thought that loved my tofu 65 before, but this is a total game-changer. This mod totally transformed the feel of typing, no harsh bottom out, but without any of the sponginess that I expected going into it.
Most definitely! After the mods, it didn't even really feel like a tray mount keyboard anymore! Such gentle and even typing experience!
I did this mod style to a keychron k6 and it sounds amazing. thanks for the awesome tutorial. Not sure if this was the exact video, but I watched all of them.
Great username! Thank you so much for watching the videos, and glad that it worked out for your K6! I have a K2 that's been modded like this and it's been great to type on as well!
Great video! I immediately ordered the O-Rings!
Really looking forward to this mod!
Hi Dave! I hope it works out great!
when that typing test came i melted into a pool of satisfaction
Edit: Awsome keyboard btw
Hi SlickFire! Thank you so much for the comments! Glad the keyboard was satisfying!
THIS MAN NEEDS MORE SUBS
Hi Testimatic! Thank you for your comments, I appreciate it!
Forget the spacebar, super love how the backspace sounds!
:) I am very happy how it all turned out! Great feeling and sounding tofu!
I love the look of those Miami Night key caps with the board. It looks so nice!
They are pretty amazing!
I don't know you. I got you in my recommended and I came here with my pitchfork up ready to be mad about a glorious Tofu with stem o-rings.
One of the best sounding Tofu's I've ever heard.
Hi FNS! Thank you so much for coming by! Hope the tutorial was enjoyable and you like the results! I'm currently tinkering around with an NK65 to improve that as well if you're interested! Stay tuned!
I want the typing test sounds played at my funeral.
:)
bruh lol\
This is amazing man - going to try this with my Tofu60, going to order the O-Rings tomorrow and get to work...
Hi Bellamybug! Thank you for watching! Hope it turns out well!
These Lilacs and probably tactiles in general paired with a brass plate is so perfect
Thank you! The lilacs did turn out very nice in this!
This reminds me of the Fjell with lubed Holy Pandas Typing Sounds (retest) vidio from taeha. It sounds so good
Thank you non culus!
fjell is a glorified tofu
Some tips from someone who tried this a year ago, gave up and now tried it again:
1. Use the tip from Hitoyomi.
2. The screws that came with my Tofu were like 3mm and Keybored seems to be using 5mm screws. Mine were too short and I used 8mm screws that I had leftover from a new keyboard. 8mm length is fine you just have to screw it in further.
3. Apply the screws on the bare PCB with just stabs on (no plate and switches installed yet). I struggled way too much trying to get it through the hole of the plate > into the pcb > into the stand-offs. Much easier to apply it on the bare PCB.
4. Now the screws should be somewhat fixed with the o-rings on the bare PCB with the help of tip 1. Now screw that PCB into your case.
5. Now put in your switches and plate after the PCB has been screwed into the case and done.
I need to get other switches Boba U4Ts don't really make sense in this built.
Thanks!
The zip-n-fit foam is brilliant. Thanks for the vid!
You are absolutely welcome!
Just bought some o-rings. Thank you for the video!
No problem! I hope it works out great!
how are you such a genius. have a tofu65 to try myself never thought i'd be this excited for some silicone bits to arrive
also which fifine microphone model are you using specifically?
Hi John Wang! Thank you so much for your comments! To imagine such small little o-rings to bring so much joy haha. The fifine mic I am using is the model T669.
HOLY SHIT THIS SOUND SOOOOOO GOOOD
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the sound!
I did this to mine. I think this has to be single-handedly the best mod you can do if you own a tofu (other than lubing stabs ofc). It won't make yours sound exactly like his as w everything in the hobby but its still awesome! Thanks for sharing the mod ;)
You're very welcome! I'm glad your tofu turned out great as well! You are very correct about sounding exactly like this one :) The combination of different switches / keycaps / foam / etc. have an impact, and different results! But they all should help out to improve this keyboard!
Just got into keyboards and I can't wait to try this mod on my first build.
Good luck! I hope it turns out great!
Did you have to tighten the screws again after sometime?
Hi Byrhl! Fortunately, I have not. It's even moved across the country and still solid!
Just curious why did you not screw it in the middle? Also do you use tags? Its always so hard to find your channel
I was wondering this too. Does not performing this mod on the middle two screws make the board sound different?
Im also wondering as why he does not screw in the middle ones
Hi Voark! I don't use the 2 middle stand-offs because I want to raise the overall plate and pcb assembly above the centers, so that I can reduce the number of hard contact points. This way, I can create a more even sounding and feeling board, with a bit of flex due to the o-rings on the outer stand-offs. :)
thanks for the tutorial, i really liked the video it was very detailed, ill def be trying this out on my first build that is on a tofu 65. thanks again and keep up the great work
Hi RebelGuardian02! Thank you so much for watching and I hope it was helpful! Let us know how it goes!
@@Keybored sure will
I did this mod, and PE foam modded it, it is incredible! A bit tricky, but definitely worth it!
:) I plan to do this on the TOFU60 build video I'm putting out this week!
someone should try this on the planck
Hi Marcel! I am actually planning to try this on a klippe soon. Hopefully I can get my hands on a Planck!
@@Keybored Thanks it has alredy been done for the planck , but with clicky switches .... I just want a planck that sounds like this tofu , so
Could you do it with T1 ? or are these simmular to liliacs?
@@marceldavis3628 yup, they are very similar to each other. The lilac is a t1 recolor, with a slightly different plastic blend for the top housing. Hope that helps!
Will this work with tofu60?
most likely
Hi Rice Grain! Tofu60 shares a similar lower tray layout, so you should be able to use the same tutorial for it as well. Hope that helps!
That is probably one of the best sounding boards let alone tofu65s that I've ever heard.
Thank you so much Shelby! It's so amazing what you can achieve from "Just a Tofu" tray-mount keyboard :)
Thanks Scott! Will be doing this to my tofu for sure. Life saver.
You're very welcome Kristina! I hope it turns out great! Let us know how it goes!
Nevermind this comment, it's just so I can quickly compare the sound.
0:18 - 6:52
its not a before and after
Gonna do this ASAP when i get my paycheck haha! Great video, and god that board sounds top-notch!
Hi Xip! Thank you so much! I really appreciate the comments, and I hope your TOFU turns out great!
That backspace is gorgeous.
:) The stabilizer keys are always a balance between art and science I feel... one of the things I always struggled with in the beginning
hey! thank you for making this tutorial. my dz60 with resin tofu case now sounds much better!
You're very welcome!
Appreciate the tutorial! will be trying this along side the stupidfish foam I bought!
Hi Seikoholic! Thank you for watching and hoped it was helpful!
this mod is amazing, i tried this and didn't really notice anything at the time, but at some point i had to remove the o-rings temporarily and it felt horrible and sounded still good but much worse, thank you.
:) I did the same thing way in the beginning... I thought... "This doesn't do anything." Until I took it out... it felt like I massively downgraded the keyboard
I had a lot of trouble doing this mod, instead of placing the o-rings directly on the standoffs -- I pushed the screws through first, then placed the o-rings on the back of the screw, then mounted the pcb to the standoffs. I almost ripped my hair out because I had to unscrew my PCB 4 times because they kept falling off. I'm so glad that's over.
That's great advice PERPETVAL! I guess I had more luck with the tweezer :) I hope the keyboard turned out great!
I thought of this, and finally i come across someone doing this :D That sounds so goooood.
Thank you so much! Appreciate the comments! :)
Ou ive never seen anybody talk about doing this yet! Thank u!
Hi Holly! Thank you for watching! I appreciate the comments!
I am looking forward to hearing it :D
my god, this is an awesome mod. Thanks for making this video
Hi gz rise! You're very welcome! Thank you for your comments, I appreciate it!
Magnificent, simple yet so effective
Hi Dexter, you are very correct!
This is cool, I'd definitely try this if I ever get a Tofu
Let us know how it turns out!
Can't wait to try this method on my tofu60. Hope it works just as well!
Hi Fayze! I had a few viewers try this on their Tofu60 and they came back with great results!
idk why but keyboard videos like these makes me feel relax
Glad to hear that JoE!
@@Keybored remember me when u hit 1m subs !
Genius! Great sounding Tofu!
Thank you so much Marco! I appreciate the comments!
Uhh wow..that sounds...beautiful! 😍
Thank you!
Thanks dude! I made my Tofu sound fucking amazing with this mod! I even think mine sounds better than the one in the video. I was super surprised about it
:) Congrats! Glad it worked out!
This is so awesome. Amazing video. Thinking about trying this on my Fjell...
Hi Sam A! Thank you for your comments! Let us know how it turns out!
@@Keybored You're very welcome, I certainly will!
Dude this keyboard sounds awesome, I really wanna assemble one that sounds exactly like this.
Thank you so much for watching! Love how it turned out and how it sounds/feels. Worth it!
the typing is so satisfying
Hi Djuksi! Thank you for watching and I appreciate the comment!
I could listen to this typing sound for hours on end. Definitely one of the most crisp sounding keyboards out there! Nice mod!
Thank you so much Arathann! I'm super happy how this TOFU65 turned out, and with the lilacs, such a great typing/sounding keyboard!
Love this! Jut got a tofu65 with NK creams for 150 shipped, totally gonna do this
:) Hope it works out great!
U are an absolute legend not only because of the keyboard but you also replied to all 1k comments xD
Thank you for that comment! I try to be as helpful as possible to support the hobby!
This mod made my tray mount keyboard sing - woohoo!
:) glad to hear it was good!
Just did this on my kbd75v2 keyboard, but can only do 1 ring between PCB and bottom case since the screw is way shorter than the one in your video ; and without the case foam because my case has underglow lights. But it still works quite well, the feel is less stiff than it was makes my typing more silent and not feeling like "knocking the case" all the time. Thanks for the idea, keep up to good vids & ideas
Glad it worked out Stefanus! I have been told that some kbd kits come with shorter screws :( the screws I have are M2 x 5mm for reference!
You have the precision of a surgeon oh my god
Hi PERPETVAL! Thank you for the comments! I appreciate it!
Sound amazing!!
Thanks Chris!
u could stick a couple straightened paperclips thru the oring and nounting stems so they stay aligned as u slide the pcb into place
This is a great video! I love the creativity you displayed by using the O-rings in that unique fashion. Genius idea! The board came out great. I can't wait to see more of your videos in the future. You just earned a new Subscriber!
Thank you datdudecmitche! Appreciate the comments! Will have more content coming soon!
thanks man! this mod actually worked on my tofu60, i dont have a deskmat so i have to use my microfabric cloth to block out more sounds lol
:) Glad it was helpful! I actually have a new mod for these TOFUs lol
@@Keybored really? what is it
your dedication to reply to every single comment is admirable
I have been trying... it's been getting more increasingly difficult, but will keep trying as long as I can haha
Sounds incredible
Thank you so much NB! Such great typing sounds from a tray mounted keyboard!
Awesome video and sound! I’m giving in, like and subscribed!
Thabk you TDR! I really appreciate the sub!
I love this sound so much
:) Thank you Cobra!
After hearing the sound of that backspace key, I wouldn't mind making typos at all!
Thanks Jeffrey! When dialed in correctly, backspace, enter, shift all sound so good!
Sounds awesome, man! Want to hear how linears sound on this mod.
Hi Ancell Julienne Cruz! The linears also sound very nice with this mod! Here is the link!

@@Keybored Thanks, man! Sounds great as well!
Planning on getting a tofu65 soon for my first build.
Hi Mr.Universe! the Tofu65 is a great keyboard to start with! and It actually delivers great results regardless of the price point!
Would it be possible to make a video on how you built the whole tofu because you got the sound so phenomenal on this board! Also adding different stages like what you did in your NK65 video so we could see how each change effects the sound. Thank you!
Hi Eddie! I am planning to do a round up of $150-$200 dollar keyboards in the future and will include the TOFU in that episode!
you linked wrong size O-rings, but found right ones anyway. Great sound
Thanks Estrella! I think the issue with the link is that once the stock runs out of the 4x1x1.5mm, it's been defaulting to another size... Been a struggle to find good availability on these o rings!
it sounds so good!!
Thank you for watching xixxyyy! I appreciate the comment!
This sounds melt me
Short and instructional video just they way I like it! But it would've been a good idea to showcase the soundprofile before modding it and the difference o-rings make.
Hi Rini! Thank you for your comments! That's a good suggestion and should have done that. Perhaps I can do a quick comparo video in the near future!
Thanks for the tip. Mine sounds awesome.
Glad it worked out! Thank you for watching and the comments!
excellent video man
Hi ethabxd! Thank you so much for watching!
This ones insanely great
Thank you so much ItsUnpug! Glad you enjoyed the sound!
The Zip n Fit took out all the lower pitched sound signature from my Gat Black Inks which is a bit strange considering its supposed to be a more thocky switch but overall I still love the sound! Definitely made the sound more even across the board as well. Was a fun and easy mod to instantly and drastically change my board's sound! Well done Keybored!
back from the spring tofu vid
Yup! This was the one that started it all!
That's one sub from me. Superb content man!
Thanks for watching Oliver! I appreciate the sub!
me chillin with a blue switch keyboard lol and nice video!
:) Thanks!
This sound is great and clean as the keyboards that need to spend 300 dollars. I definitely will buy tofu65 and try this method!
:) It's actually one of my best sounding keyboards... that is wild given that this is a "just a tray mount" keyboard
holy crap it sounds so good
Thank you so much ImStuba! Turned out so well and I love the typing feel of this Tofu! It just feels so gentle :)
