  • Since I have shared the TOFU65 Typing test video, I have received a quite a few requests to make a tutorial on how I O-Ring mounted my TOFU65, and made it sound the way it does. So here it is! The tutorial video on how to achieve the best sounding TOFU!
    Link to the Typing Test Video!
    • TOFU65 Aluminum + Bras...
    Not only does this O-Ring mod help the TOFU sound much better, it also improves the overall typing feel as well, making the keyboard feel much more even, softer and "poppy," thanks to the soft silicone rings the pcb/plate sits on. Hope you enjoy this tutorial, and it helps you to make your TOFU sound and feel amazing as well!

    I can't thank you enough for sharing this mod. I just got a tofu65 and had such buyers remorse due to the reverb. This makes the sound/feel so much better. I have to say that "foam" find was also amazing. I attempted this mod first go round with just filling the cavity with the zip-n-fit and using the foam that came with my tofu from kbdfans, but still had a small bit of reverb.. Swapped it with the zip-n-fit for the plate foam and what a difference. That was an amazing find and incredibly cheap! I'm going to stock up on it for future builds. Thank you again!

    Some tips from someone who tried this a year ago, gave up and now tried it again:
    1. Use the tip from Hitoyomi.
    2. The screws that came with my Tofu were like 3mm and Keybored seems to be using 5mm screws. Mine were too short and I used 8mm screws that I had leftover from a new keyboard. 8mm length is fine you just have to screw it in further.
    3. Apply the screws on the bare PCB with just stabs on (no plate and switches installed yet). I struggled way too much trying to get it through the hole of the plate > into the pcb > into the stand-offs. Much easier to apply it on the bare PCB.
    4. Now the screws should be somewhat fixed with the o-rings on the bare PCB with the help of tip 1. Now screw that PCB into your case.
    5. Now put in your switches and plate after the PCB has been screwed into the case and done.
    I need to get other switches Boba U4Ts don't really make sense in this built.

    this mod is amazing, i tried this and didn't really notice anything at the time, but at some point i had to remove the o-rings temporarily and it felt horrible and sounded still good but much worse, thank you.

    • @Keybored
      @Keybored  Před 2 lety

      :) I did the same thing way in the beginning... I thought... "This doesn't do anything." Until I took it out... it felt like I massively downgraded the keyboard

  • @perpetval9022
    @perpetval9022 Před 3 lety

    I had a lot of trouble doing this mod, instead of placing the o-rings directly on the standoffs -- I pushed the screws through first, then placed the o-rings on the back of the screw, then mounted the pcb to the standoffs. I almost ripped my hair out because I had to unscrew my PCB 4 times because they kept falling off. I'm so glad that's over.

    Just did this on my kbd75v2 keyboard, but can only do 1 ring between PCB and bottom case since the screw is way shorter than the one in your video ; and without the case foam because my case has underglow lights. But it still works quite well, the feel is less stiff than it was makes my typing more silent and not feeling like "knocking the case" all the time. Thanks for the idea, keep up to good vids & ideas
