It felt like they put every kdrama, wattpad, teen movie, fanfic, YA romance trope in a single show… but yes I still binged it lmao
They couldn't come up with any better ideas
Thats the problems with most shows for me, I know they're gonna be bad, but then again I have a bag of popcorn and there is nothing better to do so wynaut?
I'm not gonna lie i feel like this show is just a fetishization of asian boys (my opinion )
PLEASE…. that’s WHY you binged it, it’s why we alllllll did
Yea in one sitting for me…
The show was REALLY cringey but after getting in to it i couldn’t Stop watching because of how dramatic and crazy the plots were. It kept me entertained 😭
yeah I thought same till now I think same but l enjoy the plots so it's kinda good to entertain me
fr like i had to drag myself thru the first 3 episodes and then i powered thru the rest in one sitting XD
Same
YEES OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
We all have our guilty pleasures
one of the unrealistic things i found about this show was how kitty had learnt no korean before coming to KISS i mean she was all ready with the presentation and scholarship and stuff, her learning Korean would've just made more sense
I wouldnt really say that unrealistic since most foreign students at a foreign school don’t bother to learn Korean since they speak English there. But still it would’ve been better if Kitty learned a bit since she wanted to learn about her culture
It was a foreign school with lots of English speaking students so..
yes true... especially since it's her culture and would also bring her closer to her mom? or did her mom not speak any korean either as she is said to be the american friend of yuris mom? but kitty doesn't even understand the "gwaenchanayo" madison said when they ran into each other. that's like so unrealistic as if she has never seen any korean drama and/or been in touch with any korean content at all while being HALF KOREAN.
@Rh Lo Her mom spoke Korean, obviously
Did non of the other students find Kitty talking to Alex weird? I understand wanting to talk to an international adult, but the frequency with which she chose to sit with him instead of other students was alarming.
Omg same!! I thought the exact same, at one point I thought that would be how they would reveal the “sibling” secret , like other people accusing Alex of having an inappropriate relationship with a student and they would have to come clean to justify it 😅
I always thought of this 😭 If I saw a student hanging out with a teacher outside of my school and inside of school a lot then I'd feel a little wierd about it 😭😭
I was getting anime vibes where inappropriateness tends to be common. Also looking at you Persona! 👀
I was getting anime vibes where inappropriateness tends to be common. Also looking at you Persona! 👀
Yes, and the way no one talked about it when Americans especially criticize adults interacting with minors…
To be fair Minho and kitty are actually super cute cuz he was the only one that actually built chemistry with her while everyone else was so forced
I guess but I don’t ship it. They’d be great enemies to friends type but not enemies to lovers… Minho was probably just pitying her and mistook it for him being in love with her.
it was kinda forced ngl, like the whole enemies to lovers i mean
@Juvy Thao pitying her for what
i binge watched the entire show hoping they'd end up together 😭😭
Fr minho and kitty doesn't match.....
Is it just me or the series just NEVER ended up telling us the actual reason why the principal acted like she didn’t know kitty’s mom?
Cause mom knew that she had a son.
No I agree we know the big secret but I feel like it never touched on why their friendship drifted and ended, in such a way that they never spoke of the other and Jina pretended like she didn’t know kittys mom
That's for season 2 ig?😂
@Juliana Panagopoulos well, Jina pretended she does not know kitty's mom because she probably thought that if she acted like she knows the mom, kitty would start informing herself about Jina and find out about it. But if she made kitty think like she is some unrelevant person, Kitty would not put the pieces together. That was the plan
I guess the plan did not succeed lol. But yeah the writers definitely left some material for S2
Coz she was guilty
I still think the most surprising thing about this show is the fact that kitty and dae dated for 4 years
...and then broke up over a crush, like what?
Dont_Read_My_User_Photo bro no one cares
@Gabriela Centurion Neumann yeh
@Gabriela Centurion Neumann nah I was kinda mad at the airport scene where she didn't even let him speak first
@Kedledoe Imange I was kinda mad at everything, tbh. I am all for new feelings and growing, but this was not it. This was just throwing a relationship away over nothing and not even feeling bad about it. It was so unnatural how there was like just a few seconds of feeling bad about it and then it was like she was over it and he was over it... What? Did I miss something? O_O There was no communication. Granted, they're teens. But still!
Alex doing research on Sapphics and then making sure the joke isn't offending is actually the funniest thing he's ever done
not sure how that’d be funny but it definitely shows his dedication to good comedy lol
@aer It's funny cause he's so straight cis male that he has to do research. And the way he researched it like you'd do for an essay it's just too funny
@Red „cis male“ lmao
@S.Gis something confusing to you?
@S.G what's funny about that
Every time he says..”kitty I can explain” He says NOTHING to explain himself 😭
HE SAID IT SO MANY TIMES
the time he could’ve used to explain was all wasted by him saying “i can explain” 💀💀
@biscuits I know..I was like my guy..just talk..then he goes again “I can explain” 😂
i neeeeeed someone to make a compilation of all the times he says it i swear it’s about 20 😭
frr all he had to say is that it was all fake. Bro was taking way too long to just say 3 words.
Everytime Alex called a show "the weirdest show" you just know he lowkey enjoyed watching it!
as cringey as this show was, i was so invested, AND the plot was good, but it was a good “summer” show, a little kidish show was something i desperately miss. and this was a good start!
Yes! There are too many shows that spread negativity nowadays. Because seriously, do we really want shows like Euphoria to be the show of our generation?
XO Kitty felt very Gen Z and it was so cute. The characters weren't crazy and didn’t do anything immoral.
So yeah, XO Kitty is a breath of fresh air.
SAME.
If u guys like these type of shows u should prolly watch the summer I turned pretty if u haven't already
I agree
agreed. I hate that so many teen shows nowadays portray our experiences as only or mostly being defined by suffering
the fact that Alex put the disclaimer/ text after the sapphic skit reads like "MOM SAID IM ALLOWED" and it is the cherry of top of that whole bit. love it
I also loved that teenagers weren't being over sexualized and it was genuinely funny! Or the fact she was failing all her classes because she never studies lol
These two things were the best parts of show!!! So refreshing honestly 😅
i found it funny the way they lowkey called out the american education system too 😭
This is Korea
@jess 🌷 Same. Korean history is a lot to taken in too for someone who has never studied before. They have such a long and complicated history whereas ours is pretty short.
Me too! 😭it was actually so refreshing
I just realized that when Kitty was in the car with Yuri heading to KISS that Dae’s dad, Yri’s driver never knew about Kitty and Dae’s relationship because if Dae had told him about Kitty he would have recognized her right away. That means for 4 whole years Dae’s father never knew about anything where as Kitty’s family always knew about Dae. That’s some sus behavior.
I think it was more so coz the girls were talking in English and not all Koreans are fluent in English
@yuta loml But if Dae had mentioned her or shown a picture he would have recognized her.
@Natalie yea ikr I thought about that too after writing this so yea he was validly sus
Asian parents are not really that open with their kids. I would never have told my parents about it.
It’s weird that his dad didn’t know but his sister did
This was the most chaotic show ever in terms of "who likes who" it almost felt like satire.
you know what show you should watch next? miraculous
@kayleechen3044 This... This is pure evil. Why would send this poor soul down the rabbit hole and absolute dumpster fire that is miraculous? Why😢
I do wish Kitty learned Korean. Even if not before she went to KISS, during the ENTIRE SEMESTER. At least a few conversational phrases
she literally says dae will be her translator and is going to international school so her not knowing korean will not be the end of the world, also she did only go for a semester so its not like she had a lot of free time
@ArkanaMaster she had time to party, she has time to learn! (Definitely could survive international school with only English, but you'd think she'd be at least a bit interested in the language)
She didn't even know the basics 😭 I think we heard a few phrases with the kids who lived there, but never from kitty. I think it would've been funny if some people spoke korean to her and she just had to try to pretend like she knew what they were saying. 🤣
As a bi woman, the whole wlw segment is EXTREMELY accurate, like how did you know Alex😂
it was refreshing to see a teen character be a hormonal teen but also be kind and more mature than most!
kitty is so annoying and not at all that mature considering she's supposed to be a junior
@Ky what was immature about kitty
@Sanskriti Bacchu the entire show??? 💀
@Keroppi elaborate
@Sanskriti Bacchu Didn't let Dae speak at all considering anything that had to do with their relationship, Jumped from person to person, Meddles into people's personal lives and affairs frequently, Often jumped to conclusions, Assumed that people would just instantly accept her pushy behavior. Stood on a lunch table and tried to have an embarrassing MC moment instead of accepting her punishment and getting expelled...and that's just on the top of my head.
Calling a lesbian character "Yuri", specially in an East Asia-based story, will never be unfunny.
It was very funny, I giggled when I realized 😭
ikr her mom really couldn’t blame her for gettin some yuri action when she named her yuri😂
Ikr?
is there a pun i'm missing?
@Urvi look up yuri in weeb culture
I'm bisexual and yes. it's funny that we always talk about how boys tend to miss obvious signs but then do it ourselves. and it's harder if you are into feminine women as feminine girls because you never want to disrespectfully assume that someone is gay solely because they complimented how your hair highlights go perfectly with your eyes with also matches that one blue flower on your dress in the 3rd quadrant. 🤣
I think that my only problem with the show is that in the movies, Kitty was always the sassy, my-way-or-the-highway kind of girl. While I get that people change over time and she grew up, I feel like that was one of the core parts of her personality and they just took that away from her in this show. It was almost like they just made her a mini LJ in my opinion. Kitty was always a realist who loves love, but I feel like in trying to capture that essence in this show, they just romanticized her love life too much to the point where it's like uhh... ur Kitty Covey right..? That's my opinion though, my only real problem with the show (ofc there were other silly things but that's part of the charm). Overall I still really enjoyed it though.
Though I agree with this, I do think that the way she was written in the show also kind of makes sense? We saw the part of kitty that you’re referring to when she’s much younger in the franchises. Changes come as you grow so although younger kitty is iconic, it makes sense that current kitty isn’t exactly like how she was
this is what i was saying. kitty was like that girl that knew herself and she was so sure of everything, and she seemed like a popular girl.
I mean as you get older you kinda get less sure of yourself, Kitty was still fairly secure (and she felt more confident to me than LJ, for example) but compared to younger her she was less confident.
Which makes sense, she’s far away from home and the only person she does know is Dae, but then she decides to embrace the journey
@KMMS I agrée and it is something I definitely considered when forming my opinion of the show. When we originally saw her she was 11 and now she’s 16-17. I think that her confidence was one of the core parts of her personality though, and while it could be expressed in different, less extreme ways, I don’t think it would be as heavily eradicated as they portray it in the show. I remember relating a lot to kitty back even when the first movie came out. We both had very similar personalities and were about the same age. I’m 15-16 now, and while I may not be as blunt as I once was, and I definitely struggle with things in my own life (as does kitty), confidence has been a big part of my personality and that is a pretty difficult thing to change. While I think they should have portrayed kitty’s confidence and openness in a more mature, thoughtful way, I don’t like how they pretty much removed it from her personality. It seems like I’m watching a show about a girl different than Kitty Covey.
@Beta I guess, that does make sense. She definitely was more confident than LJ. But I feel that the version of Kitty we see in the show is unrealistically different. Even if kitty is struggling a lot (which she is from being far away from her family), she was the type of girl who always had her own agenda. She knew what she wanted, and while I get that this show is about her growing up and kind of losing everything she thought she new about herself and rebuilding that (coming-of-age type), I personally think that she’s the type of person that wants people to know exactly what she’s thinking, what she believes in, what she wants. She’s the type of girl to actively strive that. That’s not something that just goes away (I know from personal experience). I love kitty, I just think that they took away too much of the oomph in her.
I also really liked this show, I was genuinely SHOOK when Kitty turned out to be queer! It genuinely threw me for a loop but also made me happy as a queer woman! I saw a lot of myself in Kitty and seeing her queerness not being used as a marketing strategy like so many other shows made me happy! Normally shows will HEAVILY advertise queerness in shows to draw their gay audience in but it was nice to be pleasantly surprised and see the MAIN CHARACTER go through something that resonates with me so deeply but not make it the ENTIRE story
Oh my gosh something I completely agree with. (I'm not gay or anything but I still loved the fact it wasn't a marketing strategy. like FINALLYY)
Justice for Dae man. Honestly dude deserves better 💀
Yeah i really hated how they did him man. He was one of the best and kitty still fumbled him like bro
@Shiny Anonno he wasn’t, he was boring as hell and he can’t communicate for shi. I don’t like kitty either but let’s not pretend Dae is a good character
@LeastMexicanMexican boring is subjective. but that doesn't make him a bad character. he was one of the only people with a visible decent morality and depth in the show. everyone else was just shallow and changed their minds about things too quickly. imo that just makes him more interesting than anyone there
sure boring but he had reasons he tried to communicate but kitty didn’t let him at all sure it wasn’t the best communication but cmon at the end of the day dude was trying to provide for his fam
I’ve never commented on videos on CZcams but I just have to say the one thing no one will. It WAS a weird problem that Kitty fell for the one girl who actively tried her best to ruin Kit’s relationship with Dae just so she wouldn’t have to verbally come out like it wasn’t something her mum already knew but just chose to ignore. Like there wasn’t any other nicer girl that could’ve caught her eye. It was the girl who took her guy, the girl who didn’t let him tell Kit the truth, the girl who stole the necklace, the girl who always interjected in Dae and Kitty’s conversations? Cause I even get Dae’s pov on it when he hears Yuri name from Kitty and all he can think is “She’s the LITERAL reason, we couldn’t be together, f*** you mean, you fell for her?”. I just didn’t support that side of the show🤸🏾♀️
Exactly! And when the girls do the show and they're up there with the fans, Yuri and the rest of the girls just leave her to be set on fire. No one near her tried to do anything. So, Yuri is the girl that she likes after all that?
this!! i cant belive how anyone can be team yuri..people just want to satisfy their gay relationship fetish everywhere smh. I'm team Minho through and through but even dae is better than yuri.
Fr tho.. they couldn’t just let Yuri and Kitty stay friends? That crush was so unnecessary and it really literally could’ve just been anyone else but her.
@•hi• yes I agree the crush was very unnecessary like the whole show was so messy like they have this person like this person and then the other it's so messy and complicated they lack in communication this show was messy and complicated the ending too my head hurts just thinking about it but I still watched it😭💀
XO Kitty is the most bizzare combination between a disney channel show and a k-drama and it only kind of works...
Agree
it’s really funny how the vibe shifts between the two so drastically
😭
Somehow I was never introduced to any kinds of movies or tv shows like this ;-;
So kinda like a Netflix version of Make it Pop?
That show was a K-Drama for kids on Nick.
I had absolutely no hopes for this show and I ended up having a really good time. I love silly, low stakes shows like this, it's pretty cute
If Kitty doesn’t end up with Minho, I’ll take him for myself-
She’ll end up with yuri or yuri will die 😂
I absolutely love this show. I can’t believe we got straight baited and I could not be happier about it! it made so much sense that Kitty got over Dae (because of all the lies) by the time they actually got together. and it was so sweet that she started liking Yuri after Yuri saved her from the gross guy :) they actually had vibed really well, (in the car, sneaking into the prof’s house) when they weren’t “fighting “ over Dar
no it wasn’t bc Yuri has a girlfriend
Please enlighten yourself with other forms of television
They ruined it by making kitty gay or bi. Too many gay characters and netflix just seems to force it. Im not homophobic or anything but it just ruins the series.
@Glenn Richard Trinidad yeah rlly needed another show abt straight ppl. yk how little media representation they get. totally blows netflix dropped the ball
@arizona tea i mean there is a fine line between being diverse and just forcing it. This show beats love simon and alex strangelove for being to gay.
My only problem with the show was not that it was trying to be so many things at the same time but actually, the fact they totally forgot Dae's families storyline (that stuff with his sister was pretty sweet)
Also,DAE & KITTY DATED FOR 4 YEARS?
Fun Fact: Yuri and Min Ho's actors are siblings in real life, and auditioned for their roles separately. The casting directors didn't even know that they were related until filming began, plus they use different surnames.
Interesting
That's creepy.
Why do they use different surnames??
@Nyerhovwo Akpome parents probs div
@Nyerhovwo Akpome It's Korean culture as many Koreans have their fathers’ surname and are shared with siblings.
As a pansexual girl, the skit was accurate, I'm friends with a ton of bisexual girls and we flirt and say we want a girlfriend but we don't give each other a chance 😭 we also assume the flirting is just playful flirting or we're just being nice
I binged the entire show in one evening and I honestly didn't expect it to be so good. I really liked the characters and the fact that they all had some sense in them lol
right??? xo, kitty was absolutely phenomenal.
I love the “3 queer girls thought it was funny” I thought the skit was realistic and relatable but that sentence truly made me laugh
The thing that irked me the most was the fact that no one in the right mind would lie like that. Like yeah it was part of the plot but the extent as to which yuri and sae just lied to kitty barley even acknowledging how she would feel is actually unreal
Right like I understand they signed an NDA but it’s just so bizarre they couldn’t have given her any hints, especially when yuri confessed to kitty abt all of it later anyways
As a lesbian viewer, I found the queer girl skit to be very funny!😂 definitely have experienced some of it lol. Im glad you asked other wlw their opinion first so it doesn’t come off as offensive and we can just laugh together at the truly ridiculous things we go through like wondering if someone you’re definitely dating only sees you as a friend 🥲💀😂
When Kitty decides to stand up for herself by literally get up and stand on the table in the cafeteria, I had to leave my living room.
I’m DEAD 😭
Ig it's fair she got told off and expelled still 💀
like, can she be fr?? girl you're not starting a revolution you're getting expelled 😭
I just paused it and didn't touch it for the next two days
Yo
The Sapphic skit was accurate as hell. My sister moved in with her gf after 3 months and then they both moved to another state immediately after. They're happy with 4 dogs now lmao
As a korean who watched Emily in Paris, I enjoyed it! At least the korean actors were good and talked amongst themselves in korean..thank you..and none of the scenes(except the huge hospital name on the apartment) seemed out of place, weird, or racist. It really looked like kdrama gone a little spicy and teen realistic.
I loved the heartwarming, drama filled, but sweet vibes. Definition of a comfort show
I think this might be one of my favourite videos of Alex's - the sapphic skit was so on point and hilarious 😂
it got me😂
FYI, Han Chae Young - the actress who played Minho's mom, is already 42, so she can totally pass as a teenager's mother
As a lesbian, the "maybe she is just being nice?" Thing is very true.
Ikr 😅
“Is this platonic? Or is she flirting?”
I tbh think about it every night…
Felt heavily also from a confused bisexual all the jokes about in this video were funny and spit on with what I saw others girls go through in high school and also myself with a couple of girls
As someone who accepted her bisexuality recently... same.
50% of the "problems" i've seen people have with this show is that Kitty is gay and they claim her being bi/pan is "forced" which makes NO SENSE because majority of the time these are coming from the people who obsesses over Minho and want him with Kitty, even though Minho liking Kitty is JUST AS "FORCED" AND RANDOM (if not more) as Kitty liking Yuri. They literally both realized their feelings for the other person over a random dream.
THANK YOUUUUUUUU
I think the only one with true feelings and faithful is Dae. Others are all cheaters
liking yuri definitely forced
@salted caramel fr
@salted caramel nope
madison and minho easily have the most chemistry out of the entire show
they fr dont what are you talking about
@ftt the others have zero chemistry
they dont its kitty and minho
i hope this is a joke. even dae and yuri had more chemie. like everyone had more chemie then minho and madison
@mana le nah yall just dont see the vision
I really enjoyed watching the grief process in this show with the loss of her mom. There were moments when they pointed out the bi racial experience of being White and Korean which I appreciated too.
Alex, you describing women’s queer relationships literally describes my life 😂😂😂😂 it was too spot on 🥲
I saw kitty as a passionate and smart person in TATBILB , it's kinda out of character she didn't even prepared to learn korean before coming to korea. I would love to see a scene where her dad ask if she isn't worried about the language barrier and and she answers in decent korean.
I love how XO Kitty just became a full blown bi panic half way through
@Dont-Read-My-Profile-Picture.0 ok i wont
I was so glad and excited for that choice, It was the first time I watched an entire show based on a bi female character and it felt amazingly so true
I'm really hoping this is not one of those cringe forced inclusion things. Like y'all deserve better seriously and I don't even support.
@Royal💫 …wtf are you talkin about??? kitty was always supposed to be bi
@Writing2o7 I don't think you understand my comment at all if you think I'm saying she was made bi for the show. Read it slowly.
My Mum and I watch K-dramedies together all the time, and we watched XO Kitty this week because we're both stressed at work and didn't have the brain cells to read subtitles for 70 min straight. It was delightful, and you're totally right, the goofy drama of it is exactly what dating is like within a small high school because you've got BIG feelings and very few options. If you like Hallmark Christmas movies or Romance novels, you'll probably like this.
11:37 This is scarily accurate, my friends and I say we want girlfriends all the time and then just don't do anything about it.
As a bisexual, I confirm the "Are you flirting with me or are you just being friendly?" phenom is real.
Honestly, I thought the show was great. It was really cringy at times, of course, but the way the characters behaved seemed really accurate to how 17 year olds actually behave. Also every character had their own flaws, but that didnt make them unlikeable, just more relatable. The only person I genuinely disliked was Yuris dad, everyone else was great.
I went into this show thinking, it can't be THAT bad. And well... it wasn't THAT bad I will admit. It was just really weird...
there were alot of things that didn't make sense, and a lot of misconceptions the show had over Korea in general. I still soley believe that the only reason people like this show is because of Minho, and honestly... I love him too.
But other than that, the random kpop songs when they're not needed and the DRAMA was not enough for me to love it.
But there were some pluses: When I heard HOT by SEVENTEEN (which is the first kpop song to play and coincidently my ULT kpop group) did I scream? Yes, yes I did. Also, I do appreciate that they had the korean actors actually speaking IN korean, I do think that was one of the best aspects of the show. 5.9/10
the fact that the actors that play yuri and minho are older than the teacher is crazy
Omg fr?? 🤣🤣😭
@dani_ani Yes. The siblings are 27 and 29 while the one playing the teacher is 25.
Oh shiiit
I saw in one of the interview that she is 30 92liner
@yery yeah you’re correct. They were on Fun with Dumb yesterday if anyone wants to watch it.
Turning 31 this year.
As someone who’s Korean and went threw the whole Korean education the show broke my soul in so many ways
I did enjoy Xo Kitty for the same reason some people dragged it. It's a romcom cliche meets wattpad/ao3 madness with a touch a telenovana plot twist. It's was exactly what a need to watch during a afternoon that I was ditching my class at college because a person need some not complicated movie/series once in a while to cope with adult life. So yeah, give me the angst, come out of the close, enemies to lovers shit. That's what want.
What's more annoying is Kitty not bothering to learn about the korean culture or atleast the language. I feel like her main reason to go to KISS was because of Dae and her mom was just a silly little excuse
And not studying well HAHAHA
I loved reading fanfics when i was a teenager and watching this show made me remember the thrill of reading them. Is it dumb af and totally cringey? yeah, but most of the time i just want to watch a happy show/movie and forget about all the obligations i have for a while. If i wanted to be sad i would just put on the news
I'm a fan of "Enemies to lovers" and I was kinda confused the whole show because I was wondering if they would go with this route or not with all the love interests :')
At the end I was a bit disappointed because the end was so rushed and forced and I couldn't decide if I should be happy or sad ^^'
the part about korean people portraying other cultures TERRIBLY in their media is SO accurate LMFAOOOO. if they were to portray korean schools correctly, the bullying would be HORRIBLE for kitty because she's a foreigner who's not conventionally attractive by their standards.
Why do Koreans do that though...?
@Kat Greer
Its just society and the intense pressure to be perfect. You’ll feel it once you enter a eastern school irl but there is intense competition between students and teachers usually arent lenient on failing students and their mental health. This leads to bullying and shaming people especially if you’re seen as foreign. And foreign doesnt even just include from America or Europe. It could must mean you’re from Japan or the Philippines. If you arent part of the “it” group, you’re deemed inferior in a way.
@Seraphy Wang perfectly explained 🙏🏼 there’s such a deep generational culture of judging other people based on status and looks too.
@Seraphy Wang that's sad but I still feel it's no excuse to be borderline racist towards other cultures...😔
@Kat Greer
Yeah. Im not condoning it but thats just how it is unfortunately. Changing it would mean tapping into the fundamental aspects of said culture and most would rather walk away than change it.
When first seeing it from scrolling on Netflix, I thought it was going to be a bad boring show but I’m glad I decided to give it a chance because it was actually surprisingly a great show!
The feelings of being bi was realistic! Especially the heartbeats when someone that’s the same sex, touches you in some way for a little while.
I frikin love this show. I’ve always been into cheesy stupid sweet romance plots(thus why I followed the previous series) and this was just perfect for me. Especially her finding out she’s in the bi field. I can hardcore relate to the denial part. It’s…a lot finding that out about yourself, especially when you’d think you would know sooner. I realized I was into boys from the age of 4 (crazy but yeah) and girls at 8. And I also love the show’s love maze cause YEAH. The plot kept thickening and I am bursting at the seams for S2
I binged the whole season in one sitting and honestly it was a rollercoaster, since when does having a s*x dream about someone mean you actually have genuine feelings for them🤷🏽♀️ idk but it was just so strange to me, I almost got a whiplash with the way Kitty did a whole 360 on Dae,bro really did love her.
Well, I really enjoyed it too! But I absolutely did not see Kitty's bisexual awakening comming. I totally thought there would be a love triangle between Min Ho, Dae and Kitty 😂. Because the way her relationship with Min Ho was portrayed, that totally is the "enemies to lovers" - trope. Not that she falls for Yuri.
And I also absolutely thought Alex was her brother, not Yuri's. So well done in that regards for me.
On a side note: I am very glad they didn't really play that whole "fish out of water" thing too much. For someone like Kitty, who barely speaks Korean, and who probably doesn't know much about korean culture (because mom died very early and couldn't tell her), she fits in surprisingly well and there are not that many cultural blunders. I think the only thing that remotely touched on that issue was her bad grades and then the cream cheese in the food (on a side note, how could Min Ho not have seen that package when they were grocery shopping and warned her about it?) this could have been played out a lot worse.
The only thing that slightly annoyed/puzzled me was the fact that this is supposed to be summer, but still cherry trees were blooming? 🤔
It was basically what an American teenage girl would want in a K-Drama & honestly, I still liked it. Some parts were super cringe, but that's ok! I do hope it gets a season two. I also watched it right after getting back from Korea and it made me miss it terribly 😭
According to this show all it takes to fall in love is have a sex dream about that person 🤦♀️
he already felt attracted to her, the reason why he had the sex dream in the first place.
Accurate representation of being a teenager tbh
I LOVED the show but the whole min Ho telling her he loved her I thought was wild
They should've just let minho be the overdramatic best friend who will drag u thru the mud about your fashion sense but will be ready to throw hands if someone offended his friends
Come to think of it, I the few sex dreams I've had were with people I hardly think about. What's up with that?
11:55 this is literally so accurate. the first thing a girl could say to me is "omg you're literally so beautiful. wanna go on a date or something?" and i would think she is just being nice bc that's lowkey also how straight girls talk to each other
No but for real why do some straight people appear more gay than us sometimes? 😂😂 two straight girls could be holding hands and kissing and yet no one bats an eye but bats an eye to me just if I say a compliment 😂😂😂😂
I loved this show so much I hope they get a season 2 but since Netflix is notorious for not doing that I am glad we got what we got.
I honestly think Minho and Kitty could have this opposites attract dynamic that would actually be really good for each other ngl
Like they could actually learn from each other
Minho’s little wave is so cute 🥰
As a lesbian/sapphic myself, the “how girls dating girls works” skit was indeed very funny
one thing that annoyed me the most (other than the fact that kitty did not bother to learn korean and more about the culture) was that they included dae's family life, and then just forgot about it? like the plotline with his little sister and the ripped shoes was so sweet... and the scene where yuri spent chuseok with dae's family? so good!! it was a much better side plot than the others tbh, and i wished the show explored the class dynamics between dae and his friends(and kitty, too), esp since dae's dad was yuri's dad's chauffer.... so much wasted potential in this show 🫤
omg yeah her going to korea with absolutely 0 language knowledge is insane I cant think of a single world where that scenario is realistic
Mmmm 😅 that’s a good point maybe the parents help with translations?😅
Yeah I was thinking about how Dae had zero personality or development even compared to Min Ho who was mostly a side character
@jani! Having lived in Korea and, while I'm still conversational in Korean, I can tell you lots of my friends lived there for years without knowing anything more than "Hello", "Thank you" and "Goodbye" lol It's not unrealistic, especially when you live at an international school or work for an international company / as an English teacher.
@Alainn yes but she wanted to go to korea to explore its culture and learn more about her mother as well. just kinda disappointing that that went nowhere.
but yeah, i see what you mean and i can see that happening, since a lot of everything in this country is written in english/provided with english translations as well.
i felt the saaaame!! like it was everything you'd expect from this type of show y'know? i feel like since we knew it came from to all the boys, we knew not to expect anything groundbreaking or super substantial. it was good for what it is. i enjoyed all the tropey tropes and was actually invested in finding out what was happening with the mom and the teacher and all that haha, plus i'm a kpop fan myself, so the use of kpop in the show was fun
As a kdrama fan myself, it very much had the feeling of a kdrama. I just wish the episodes were 45 minutes to an hour to have more of that kdrama feel
I really liked the show and hope they make season 2 and more. It’s really funny and people should just enjoy it and chill out.
xo kitty feels very much like an k-drama through western eyes, if that makes sense? like, it's not a k-drama but it's very clearly trying to emulate one, and it somehow works. it's cheesy, tropey, cute, and completely straightbaited me into thinking it'd be a cute hetero romcom from the trailers, lmao. the queer love triangle was very welcome, and i hate that so many people are saying it came out of nowhere... like, no one would say that if it were another boy? crushes can come and go out of nowhere, and it's understandable that kitty would grow apart from her childhood boyfriend especially when they'd spent so much of the show not being together or at odds with each other. kitty's had a recent self-discovery moment, where she had a bi-awakening (the creator of the tatb, jenny han, confirmed kitty wsa always going to be bi). it was honestly pretty mature of her to decide to break things off with dae, presumably so she could discover herself and explore her sexuality.
If she went to the top school in South Korea, her grades would be so high that she won’t have time for anything else but study 😂. Basically the writers watched heirs and was like, “oh yeah, that’s how school is like in Korea” 😂😂.
Also, how did she get into the men’s dorm? This is one of the weirded “kdrama” show. Lol
this entire show had me fighting for my life and not in a good way
Right? Like Minho carried the show
WHAT? WHY? IT WAS SOOO GOOD
@KittyCatMeow ok kittycatmeow, we'll definitely listen to you
Perfect description omg 💀
i am a third through, and doggy paddling my way to the end, I AM GONNA MAKE IT
as a lesbian i’m really impressed with how well you understand queer women lol
I am not gonna say that it was bad because I binged the entire show in a matter of hours, but it was just a very "too many things at once" kinda show. I mean fake relationship, family drama, love triangle, falling in love with your frenemy, mysterious step sibling, crush on your bf's supposedly fake gf ? There were too many plot lines but I still am a sucker for it lol
I’d like to think that the end of the show would be that Kitty realizes she’s not into any of them.
it was hard to get through this show but i binged it anyway and for that plot twist with kitty and yuri? i genuinely didnt suspect anything up until like that minho party and then the dream scene happened and i started laughing i was almost as shocked as kitty but as a bi girl myself good on her i wonder how the show's gonna handle it now
😂😂😂😂😂
You're such a mood.
Loved the small saphic little cutout, you said it all, it's never as simple as it seems on tv and for that, they definitely did a nice job in the show
“She’s into Yuri for a while” that is a hilarious sentence. Because even if it wasnt a characters name it would still work the same way
I didn’t even realize😂
Can you pls explain what u mean 😭 (no hate)
i don’t get it
Yuri is another word for girlxgirl stories
@TheDarkPhoenix16 ooooh hentai i remember
THIS CAME OUT AS SOON AS I FINISHED THE SHOW 😂😂😂😂
*Thank you, Alex* 💜💜💜
I personally think the writing and storytelling could’ve been WAY better for XO, Kitty. I’m not an experienced screenwriter at all and I still feel like I could’ve done a better job. But I’m gonna still watch the second season and hope it’s better.
For a note, Han Chae-young who is playing the role of Minho's mom is actually 42. So it is possible for her to be his mom if she conceived Minho in her early 20s. But yeah, overall the show didn't make much sense.
I binged this show in one day with my nieces I thought I’d hate it but I really liked it 😂 I hope there’s a second season
This show was really good! I hope there is a season 2 and that Minho and Kitty are endgame!
Kitty: *screams*
Boys: *screams*
Alex: *Turns into an opera singer*
aAAAaaaAAaa~😂
🎤🎤
How you described lesbian relationships is very accurate! It is always friendly shit! I was dying of laughter and shame all at the same time…
Well. I started it, because I enjoyed the "to all the boys" movies. And I binged it, because it was kinda relaxing, shallow and still somewhat deep and sweet. Can't wait for season 2. *fingers crossed*
Han Chaeyoung: the actress playing minhos mom is 42. Gia Kim: the actress playing yuri is 30. always assume a korean is older than they appear lol
really though, I get why netizens complain, the show seema to have gleaned everything about korean culture from watching dramas rather than researching (however I agree, the number of korean dramas doing that very thing is astounding so yeah...)
this was an easy and fun watch despite its flaws.
No wonder I always felt the actress playing Yuri was much older than claimed to be in the movie. I'm not even surprised she's 30. She looks close in age to the mum to me but to be fair, her mum looks pretty young.
I loved this show so much. It was incredibly silly and tropey and yet it didn't take itself too seriously. Really good turn-off-your-brain-for-a-bit, lighthearted, sweet, heartwarming show. And the unexpected wlw representation made my little lesbian heart so happy, I can't believe they actually went for it!
I loved your video the most, because it was a critical and funny point of view, as well as mature and respectful to the show and all the creators involved. And I totally relate, I am waiting for season too. Hoho.
‘I asked three different queer girls about this skit and they all said it was funny’ 😂 lmaooo it was indeed funny Alex
i love being called-out like this :D makes me relax a little bit
as a queer girl I thought it was funnyy!!
@Claire the is this a friend make out, or a make out make out was pretty funny.
How do you know 3 different queer girl it a miracles to know even 1
@Garvin Dean once you know one you get introduced to the whole fruit basket lmao
This video sums up the dumbness and craziness of this show very accurately. I had only nerves to watch till Episode 5 but then skipped right away to the end. I didn´t miss anything at all lol. Still, I kinda hope for a season 2 where Kitty ends up with Minho.
I also couldn't figure out why I had such a good time watching it either but it was exactly as how you described it! Like the ability to just turn off your brain and just watch was immaculate
Loving this review lol that’s exactly what I thought, it’s kind of relatable (as relatable as a Netflix show can be) and really doesn’t give that much of cringe.
Someway, by writing this spin-off, the author of To All the Boys completely destroyed Lara Jean's narrative, and I think that's why we can call it a redemption: there is much more action in one season than in the 3 movies. Can't wait for season 2!
