In today's episode, I bring to you the most Portuguese village in Portugal that was also the set of the new TV show "House of the Dragon".
At more than 750 meters altitude, Monsanto rises on a steep elevation in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova. A aldeia mais portuguesa! Não nasci lá mas toda a minha familia sim. E o meu cantinho preferido… adoro estar lá. Quando chego parece que o tempo parou para mim. Tenho a sorte de ambos os meus avós ainda morarem lá, vou com bastante frequência. Quem não conhece que va visitar a aldeia. Não vai ficar desiludido.
I can honestly say I know nothing of the "House of the Dragon", but I loved the scenery. What stood out to me is the sheer volume of rocks! I've never seen so many rocks in my life. I think it's safe to say they had plenty of building material for this castle! A great explore! Thanks so much for the history lessons and the mini guided tour. For those of us who are not able to pick up and go around the world, this is our opportunity to see the sights. Thank you again, Danny! Great job as usual!

Monsanto apareceu no episódio 10 de House of the Dragon. As gravações foram um desafio para a HBO e teve que contar com o exército português para levar os equipamentos para o local e o elenco tinha que andar da vila para as pedras e ruínas para as gravações.

Danny…the rocks are frightening but at the same time amazing…the town is beautiful…and what a history it has to share…I almost want to put this trip on my Wish List…also very considerate to have the signs in the different languages…I applause the people for doing that…appreciate you bring it to us.

@@ES.Forgotten A história dessa Vila e tão importante, que deve ser bem contada,como reza a história.Quando mais uma vez os castelhanos vieram para tomar terras portuguesas ,resolveram atacar Monsanto.Quando as pessoas daí souberam,levaram tudo o que tinham para cima que desse para comer, e viver e todos meteram se lá dentro,trancaram portas e vamos a luta.Atiravam pedras e fogo para baixo,e os castelhanos lutando para entrar,assim estiveram semanas,, até que a doença fome e cansaço chegou a sério para os dois lados.Os de baixo pior com frio.Os de Monsanto fechados já sem comer queriam se render,mas lá no meio havia uma mulher,chamada Deu_la_Deu Martins que era a mulher do capitão _mor,eque lutava junta com espada e pedras com os homens,tratava dos feridos e distribuía a comida.Quando vio que só havia uma vitela e restos de farinhas,gritou para todos entregar nos nunca,juntem todos os restos do grão vamos amassar e fazer pão.Quando o pão esteve cozido a mulher sobiu a torre do castelo atirou o pão e a vitela para baixo,e gritava, tomem comida, miseráveis senão ainda morrem de fome,a nós não nos faz falta,temos ainda para semanas.Os castelhanos devoraram o comer i disseram vamo nos que aqui não a esperança. E assim foi..Quando eles saíram ,abriram portas levaram feridos doentes tudo para a Vila e foram comer e festejar.Tivemos grandes heróis na nossa história, mas as mulheres também não se ficaram atrás.La baixo na vila está uma estátua dela que o bisneto mandou fazer.E no brasão de Monsanto podem na ver atirando pão de cima da torre,e lá está escrito. ..Deus a deu Deus a ha dado. Gosto desta história,espero que também gostem.Com carinho Maria

This historical location Montsanto was so interesting and very beautiful to see. Sometimes I even had the impression being
directly at your side, when you were walking through the narrow roads of that old village. - I once more loved listening to
my favourite history professor, when you were telling the background story of this place. Absolutely breathtaking and beautiful
views from the castle, where you were showing the countryside!! - I must say it once more, that Portugal is really a wonderful

Hello once more Danny, or is it Mountain Goat, "M.G." or better yet, just G.O.A.T... Another epic adventure captured for us to enjoy, very interesting and informative. The architecture and imagination it must have taken to build all of those structures in and around those humongous boulders is mind blowing. One aspect I would like to know more about was in your intro, those shapes cut into the flat rock, some of which were filled with water, that looked either like a 'keystone' for an archway or a could have been a grave?? I hope it was for a keystone... That one remnant of the building with only the archway standing was truly awesome, and the castle was a marvel as well. Great story/legend of the veal calf and the wheat! Well done and beautiful job on the whole experience!! I don't currently subscribe to the channel that has House of the Dragon, but perhaps will see it eventually to see and compare what you have shown. The granite rock reminds me of the Catedral de Evora. Stone structures are amazing.

Those rocks name is GRANITE I'm surprised you don't know the name since you say that you like rochs. And the round rocks are called granitic boulders. The small castle's door is called the "treason door" or traitors door.
I think its a shame we don't take care of our castles in the uk rebuild them to former splendour it would help with tourism. Not sure what its like in Portugal. Too much red tape by historical society not wanting to renovate eventually if nothing is done all castles will be ruined over time. It should be a proud history we should celebrate. I think Portugal is every much a historical place keeping is customs and religion unlike the uk where we seem to be doomed.
