- The Lake in my Medievil walkthrough.
Definitely the hardest level in the game. This is due to narrow paths, enemies that can easily knock you off it, and an annoying ultra defensive enemy that can be a pain to kill.
The Chalice is hard to get as the only enemies that count towards it are those summoned by the Watchers. The turtle enemies they summon spit globs of acid at you and can only be hurt whilst they're not hiding. In the end I decided to block and counter, as it proved a relatively effective strategy, one that kept me alive on the last bits of health anyway.
If you don't get enough enemies from the Watchers you may have to restart the level, which can be a pain, but I doubt it happens that often. Thankfully the next two levels are ridiculously easy.
The Hall of Heroes reward is the Magic Longbow, a much stronger ranged weapon than your current offerings. - Hry
This level gave me real creeps as a child! These dark waters, that due to limited graphics back in the day made it look like a scary void of darkness, not to mention that creepy whirlpool area...dude i tell you, when i was like 10 or something it gave me nightmares for months! I doubt with updated graphics it will look as creepy as before in remake, the updated textures will probably make water look more realistic and thus will reduce the scare factor by a good notch...
Yeah, even if the remake was amazing, the atmosphere the original gives you with the old graphics makes it unique. By the way, when I was a kid, my favorite level was this one because of the same reason...
I found out that you can make the monsters you need for the chalice to respawn.
I hit the eye (after it closed) in the house next to the star rune with my magic sword and it respawned a couple monsters. I left the area and came back (I went through the underwater passage) and it respawned monsters for me a second time!! (Purple glowy spheres appeared and materialized the monsters on the ground.)
Also, the eye at the exit of the underwater path right next to the doorway either re-opened after a while, or I missed it the first time somehow. So make sure to get seen by that one, too.
EDIT: I think another eye just reopened for me (to the right of the double entrance to the building that leads to the end of the level) when I visited it. I think sometimes the eyes reopen if you don't kill all their associated monsters the first time..?? (when you accidentally knocked the monsters into the water & they never came back).
If I recall, the Chicken Drumsticks one-shot-kill those frog/turtle creatures AND turn them into tasty chicken.

Well that makes me feel better! I got the chalice on levels but this one. I assumed you had to LET the watchers see you. Unfortunately it seems I'm right...

I didn’t let the watchers see me at all and I got the chalice.. then again, I was playing the PS4 one idk if it’s much easier than the original or not 🤷🏻♂️
The remastered version is a LOT easier than the ps1 game.

How did you receive the magic sword before this level?
I got it from Pools of the Dead, by having collected all Chalices up to that point.
i CABAL i I don't understand. I have all of the chalices from the previous levels, but I only have 13, and I need 14 for the sword
I believe on Pools of the Ancient Dead there's a choice of two weapons, the Magic Bow or Magic Sword, and I opted for the Sword first. You must have the Bow instead then?

Okay I see your strategy in that one but why don't you use the copper shield and silver shield first before using the magic gold shield? It's more conservative to do that.

I had to play this level over and over because the watcher never sends enough monsters gah! But I can see them in the water. I had to use the cheat menu :(. Anyway thanks for the vid :-)
