    Shivam is living under the stone! The regional media (specially Maharashtra), the people were clearly pissed of the BJP. The mandate was clear that the BJP will have tough time going forward. Print media in India is living under the rock and have their heads in the sand. Lallantop, Samdish, etc. did a great job and connnected with the reql people of the gao-dehat. People of Gao-dehat are smart and their votes are powerful. Good job India keeping the BJP is check.

    BJP lost only 1.4 percent votes overall
    The senior politicians in the BJP became arrogant eg none of the 30 favourite candidates of yogi adityanaath were not given ticket
    The whole opposition United
    But still the NDA has 303 seats and support so nothing is changing.
    At the end of the day, this is the best result BJP would have got- no defeat, a mirror to the senior management, and time to recover without any defeat.

    I think that journalists on CZcams like Ravish Kumar and Ajit Anjum and influencers like Dhruv Rathee made quite an impact on public opinion in the Hindi-speaking states since, I presume, a lot of people get their news on their mobile phones and not from satellite tv, particularly in rural areas.
    Neither of you mentioned the Supreme Court judgement on electoral bonds shortly before the elections which took the BJP by surprise and was the first big scandal that the government could be attacked for weeks at a stretch.
    The conspiracy theories about the election process started when the the government passed the law that would decide how the election commissioners would be chosen. And then the partisan conduct of the election commissioners during the campaigning and initial phases of voting reinforced the suspicions. The chief election commissioner admitted at the press conference at the end of the elections that they decided not to take any action against the top two leaders of the BJP and Congress. This allowed the PM and Amit Shah to indulge in hate speech and bigotry to their hearts’ content without any consequences.

    @Vidya-dk5is Před 22 dny

    Agree with his overall analysis, although I do think he is underestimating the role of Dalits and people belonging to other backward castes from all religious backgrounds in turning the tide against Modi..
    Also @53.00, if I may, I would like to address this oft-repeated false equivalence made by many progressive public voices in Pakistan when comparing both the political parties and voters of India and Pakistan respectively, thus advertently or inadvertently claiming a higher moral ground,where none exists ,by saying a) that Pakistani political parties hardly use any anti-India rhetoric in their speeches unlike their Indian counterparts b) that Pakistani voters have never brought a religious right wing party to power unlike Indians with the BJP.
    ‌Lets address the first claim. Have we not heard slogans of "Modi ka jo yaar hai, gaddaar hai" in the recent past, not just from the extremely right wing PTI , but also from the so-called progressive PPP's Bilawal Bhutto against Nawaz Sharif who ironically had taken a very similar anti India stand to discredit B.B in the 90's. Even someone like Z.A Bhutto who was arguably the most popular leader in the history of West Pakistan had to use anti-India rhetoric all through the 60's to garner support and strengthen his base among Pakistani voters. All this anti India rhetoric from all the major political parties is even more surprising considering the fact that the average Pakistani voter is well aware that no elected government in Pakistan can have any say in matters of National security or foreign policy unlike their Indian counterparts. Also let's be honest, the public sentiment in Pakistan about India cannot be compared with the experience of the Indian people vis a vis Pakistan given that the Indian state does not openly run terrorist camps where proxies are trained to infiltrate the border and carry out heinous acts of terrorism, unlike the Pakistani State which has a long recorded history of using proxies right from the start with the sending of tribesmen to Kashmir (who btw went on a raping and pillaging spree there ) , and from there on graduating to create and nurture terrorist outfits like L-eT, H-uM and J-eM( who have run recruitment drives, training centers and have collected funds in the name of Kashmir jihad in broad day light all over Pakistan for decades), and then aiding and abetting these groups in carrying out terrorist attacks on Indian soil. Nor has the Indian state ever been the aggressor in all of the 3 Indo-Pak wars. And lest we forget, all the major peace overtures from the Indian side were sabotaged by the Pakistani establishment and not the other way around, either by orchestrating terror attacks or by straight up starting a conflict like Kargil.
    ‌Now let's examine the veracity of the second claim. India is a secular state atleast on paper, whereas Pakistan is a Muslim state with Islam baked into the very idea of Pakistan from its very inception, where Sharia is written and embedded into the Constitution, where a non-Muslim can never hold the highest public office, where a non-Muslim can not even contest elections from an unreserved constituency. In a country like Pakistan where the state has a religion , claiming that no religious party has ever been elected to power is like saying -'Yes, fishes do live in water but they are not wet'. The political parties by the very nature of the polity in which they operate, become religious parties by default, do they not? Would be interesting to know your thoughts on this though.
    ‌This was a great discussion, nonetheless! Would love to see more Indian journalists on your platform. Please try and get someone like Arfa ji from The Wire, or Faye D'Souza or Yogendra Yadav- who is a political worker and a former psephologist, for a more in-depth understanding of the election results.
    ‌Cheers!
