I have had a set of these doors (5 meters wide) for 3 years now and they were fantastic until recently when they became difficult/impossible to open and close.
It was caused by the top acetal rollers not turning and developing flat spots, and has caused the steel shaft to contact the track and damage the powder coating. They were not lubricated by the installer, or by me as I was told they were self lubricating. Who was I to argue as I know plastic and grease can be a bad combination.
The rollers were replaced under warranty without question but that is not the point, (I am still waiting for a decision on the track) if they need lubricating it should be done initially by the installer and made very clear to the user on completion.

As a rule of thumb all moving points of any window or doors should be lubricated. If it doesn't need it, it won't hurt it.

I quite agree, unless told not to as it might damage the plastic?

Never lubricate the top fork wheels, these wheels need to freely rotate in the track when operating / opening and closing the doors.
Using a lubricants on the top wheels will cause the wheels to slide and eventually flat spot.
The other way these can flat spot is if the fork pins ( old style ) become loose which put pressure on the fork system causing them to fail.

The internal bearing surface of the wheels needs to be lubricated so they are free to turn , it is the outside groove that should not be lubricated so the friction makes them turn. It was lack of lubrication on the ‘axle’ that caused my wheels to stop turning and wearing flat spots on the grooves.

Hi I have a question. Who finishes off the installation of the doors? At the end, all that has been done is someone has added expanding foam between the cracks. Expanding foam won't support the weight of 3 bifold doors with glass weighing around 200kg.

    • @Originglobaluk

John Ho Hi John, the weight of the doors is supported by via the fixings into the masonry. The expanding foam is used only for insulation purposes. If you would like any more advice then please call one of our Customer Service Advisers who will be happy to help you. 0808 168 5816
