He didn't mistime the jump; the spring just didn't work as expected.
(I think the reason he lost all speed there, is that he landed from a triple jump during the split-second when he stopped holding right, just before he held left.)

I only like the ones that test your reaction time and use interesting game mechanics. The ones that are glorified pick a pipes or just insta kill you randomly are annoying.
